In this thesis, my intention was to examine differences in the career prospects and work experiences of male and female lawyers in the private sector, in the Malaysian legal profession. The literature derived from Western studies, particularly British and American research, on women in the legal profession and other professions, suggests differences between men and women in terms of their promotional prospects, with more men than women being promoted to senior positions in organisations. I was intrigued by these findings and wondered if these differences would be replicated in a country with a different legal, cultural, political, and economic situation. Moreover, as Malaysia is a multicultural country with distinct cultural groupings, I was interested in examining whether cultural groupings influence male and female lawyers' promotional prospects. In order to conduct an investigation into the glass ceiling in the Malaysian legal profession, I employed situation-centred and social-system centred approaches to explain this phenomenon. For my research strategy, I utilitsed both quantitative and qualitative research methods, which included use of a survey questionnaire and in-depth interviews. My fieldwork analysis revealed that gender emerged as the overall stronger influential factor than cultural groupings, in explaining differences between male and female lawyers' career prospects in the Malaysian legal professio

Students will engage in informal learning outside the lecture hall in addition to the formal learning. The Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Centre’s for General Studies and Co-curriculum (PPUK) is a division that provides services focused on activities outside the lecture hall. Issues, particularly student satisfaction, become a critical concern for PPUK management as a result of these actions. The crucial element is determining the level of student satisfaction with PPUK's services where students have difficulty carrying out activities outside the lecture hall due to problems with the quality of services supplied by PPUK involving Credited Co-Curricular Courses (KKB) that the university has scheduled. As a result, if the services provided are unsatisfactory, which will have an indirect negative impact on the student's satisfaction as a student. The purpose of this study was to determine students' perceptions of satisfaction with the services provided by PPUK, UTHM based on the SERVQUAL Model's five dimensions (physical evidence, responsive, empathy, guarantee, and trustworthiness). The study is designed in the form of a survey, with data collected via a questionnaire. The researcher focused on UTHM students who registered for KKB in the second semester for this study. To answer the research questions, the data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software to measure the frequency, mean score, t-test, and correlation of each element. Overall, the results show that students are extremely satisfied with the services provided by the PPUK UTHM. Other inferential and regression analyses will be investigated further and improved to the PPUK curriculum

    Get PDF
Road traffic crash has become a big issue around the world because it has recorded a higher number of fatalities each year. Previous research has found many factors influencing injury severity between male and female drivers. However, these factors might be different in complex driving condition like mountainous areas and different vehicle composition. The main objective of this study is to examine the differences between male and female driver’s injury severity in a passenger car, four-wheel drive vehicle and van. In order to investigate the effect of topography and vehicle composition, Sabah has been selected as the study area. Separate logistics regression model for injury severity of male and female drivers were examined using traffic crash data from 2008 to 2012. The results showed that the crashes at night times and wet season were more severe than crashes on day time and dry season for male drivers only. Crashes on cross junction were more severe for female drivers. Dangerous turning behaviours that cause the crashes also contributed to the increasing severity level of female drivers. Factors which have the same effect on male and female drivers were collision type, road type, road geometry, driver age, driver errors and type of vehicle. This study gives an insightful understanding about the different factors influencing injury severity level, which involved male and female drivers in crashes in areas that are mountainous and the effect of different vehicle composition on the road

This paper presents and discussed discusses the need for usability evaluation as a tool to support an assessment of museum quality in-use by exploring the meaning of users‟ experiences. In this study, usability evaluation is a preliminary study to identify the design issues associated with the museum visitor‟s context of use. The finding from usability evaluation reveals that the visitors need an improvement on the lighting in the display cases. need the museum to make improvements on the lighting in the display cases. However, there are a few considerations in applying Lux reading because it will give an impact to the display artifacts. Therefore, the main case study is focusing on identifying the Lux reading in display cases for protecting the artifact and making it ideal for museum visitors. In addition, this paper provides a discussion on “usability concept and the importance of Lux reading of artifact display. Later the main study result will be validated by the museum end user to help suggest usable Lux reading. This usability evaluation is useful to the museum curator, designers and facilities management. The usability evaluation is beneficial in identifying the important usability design issues to be investigated and explored. Besides the Lux data is highly significant in improving the museum design practice and provide a guide in monitoring the performance of lighting, which is more valuable to their end-user

Solid state recycling aluminium AA6061 chips by cold compaction is a technique that used lower energy consumption and operating cost compared to the conventional recycling technique by casting. This research is to investigate physical characteristics of the milled recycling aluminium AA6061 according to the change of the time (heat treatment) using the high speed milling process and followed by a cold press forging process. Physical property of the recycled aluminium chip of AA6061 were studied. On the other hand, the results were showing that the porosity and density, and compression is correlated. At 8 hours on variable of quenching have a best value porosity (1.95%), density (2.55 g/cm3 ) and compression strength (315.19 MPa). While for the variable of aging, the best value of density (2.54 g/cm3 ) and compression strength (280.76 MPa) is at 10 hours. On porosity the best value is at 8 hours (2.79 %). It must be considered to the density and compression strength. For that, 10 hours were chosen for the best aging time. It can be concluded; the best quenching time is 8 hours and aging time is 10 hours

Appraisal on social perception pertaining to communication and psychology

The most complex mysteries we face in life are understanding people. We spend a lot of time thinking about others, trying to understand why they do what they do, whether they mean what they say and how they feel about us. Social psychologists refer to this process as social perception and it is a very central aspect of our existence as social beings. A socially competent person can make note of other people’s facial expressions, tone of voice, posture, gestures, words, and the like, and on the basis of these clues, make reasonably accurate judgments about that person’s state of mind, emotions, and intentions. Socially competent people then use these inferences about other people’s inner states to make good decisions about how to behave socially. Social perception is an important component of social competence and social success. In addition to social perception, socially competent people must have knowledge of social rules, roles, routines, and scripts in their social lives. Furthermore, they must make use of this knowledge and of these scripts in their decision making and acting. They also have a concern for other people and make it a habit to adjust their behaviour based on the needs of others. Finally, they have the confidence needed to interact socially and accept the vulnerability associated with potential rejection. This paper will discuss what is social perception, social perception aspects of non-verbal communication, attribution and impression formation and also some suggestion on how social perception affected cultures

Semirefined carrageenan (SRC) plasticized with glycerol (G) and incorporated with antioxidants of 0.4% (v/v) of α-tocopherol and Persicaria minor (PM) extract was successfully developed. The objective of this study is to analyze the antioxidant effect of active packaging films from semirefined carrageenan incorporated with α-tocopherol and Persicaria minor on meat patties. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of α-tocopherol and PM extract were measured. The effects of α-tocopherol and PM extract incorporated with SRC-based films on meat patties were evaluated using thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) assay, metmyoglobin assay, and pH value for 14 days of storage. The films with 0.4% (v/v) of α-tocopherol and PM extract exhibited lower lipid oxidation in meat patties compared to the control (SRC film only, p < 0.05). Also, brown color development of the meat patties of less than 50% was observed at the end of the 14-day storage. Meanwhile, the pH values for all samples decreased throughout the storage period with the SRC+G+α-tocopherol film showed the highest pH value. Hence, the formulation of SRC film with α-tocopherol or PM extract could be used as an alternative packaging for extending the shelf life of food product with high fat conten
