    Get PDF
The World Economic Forum notes that there is an economic gap between Indonesia and Malaysia every year as seen from GDP per capita. The economic disparity between the two countries caused differences in available employment opportunities. Limited employment opportunities in Indonesia cause an increase in unemployment in Indonesia. The high unemployment rate in West Kalimantan is the main cause of the migration of Indonesians to Malaysia with the aim of carrying out economic and trade activities in the Serikin Market which is located in Sarawak, East Malaysia. The market only takes about 15 minutes from the Jagoi Babang. This study used primary data collected by using in-depth interview and observation techniques which was analyzed qualitatively. The study found that in general the migration patterns of Indonesian traders who traded in the Serikin Market practiced non-permanent mobility patterns. The opportunities of cross-border trade carried out by Indonesian traders are reducing unemployment, facilitating product marketing, increasing income. While the challenges faced are the inadequacy of the road infrastructure, the quality of merchandise that is not good, the unavailability of lodging for Indonesian traders in the border area of Jagoi Babang, shop rental prices are relatively expensive. Basically, this research is to provide empirical data regarding to opportunities and challenges of cross-border traders that will be able to be used for future research related to strategies in managing cross-border trade Hopefully, this research will contribute significantly to generate an effective migration policy in order to minimize transnational crimes

    Get PDF
In the 21st century, effective communication is considered the bedrock towards globalization. In the Philippines, English communication is made the medium of instruction. Some state universities and colleges in the country like Cebu Normal University Integrated Laboratory School, students in the elementary and high school department are taught in English by the student teachers. Observations noted that the latter still lack the proficiency of the language. It is therefore the aim of this study to assess the Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Elementary Education-student teachers’ English communication skills in oral and written discourses and their teaching performance. Using the Pearson –r correlation, finding revealed that both groups are comparatively better in oral than in written communication. As regards teaching performance, both groups show satisfactory results. There is however a low relationship between the English communication skills and the student teachers’ teaching performance. If a student teacher is equipped to teach, he/she can still perform well with the consciousness that facility of the language still needs to be continually enhanced. Based on the mentors’ comments and students’ observations, the student teachers’ second language facility serves as an opportunity for the latter towards wider exposure in various oral communication setting as well as a challenge to realize the need for more comprehensible communication of ideas. With the belief that facility of the language helps usher meaning learning, then appropriate and relevant training is a potent avenue to ensure consistency of purpose

This study aims to determine what factors shape taxpayer attitudes in realizing the Electronic Filing (E-Filing) program. The characteristics of taxpayers that are reflected by cultural, social and economic conditions will dominate the behavior of taxpayers which is reflected in their level of awareness in paying taxes. The Compliance Attitude in implementing the Electronic Filing (E-Filing) program is certainly not formed by itself, but is formed by a process, in forming compliance, it must be preceded by the awareness of the taxpayer. There are several factors that influence people's attitudes in paying taxes are still low, namely: a. cultural and historical causes; b. lack of information from the government to the people c. Individual atmosphere (unable to operate the internet, lazy, no direct reward. Tax awareness is the willingness to fulfill its obligations, including being willing to contribute funds to the implementation of government functions by paying tax obligations. This obligation is carried out without any element of coercion from any party. those who have high awareness will carry out their tax obligations in accordance with the applicable tax regulations. That way the Self Assessment System can be implemented properly. In other words, the higher the level of taxpayer awareness, the higher the level of taxpayer compliance in paying. in the optimization of taxpayers to switch to using e-filing by enhancing the image of Good Governance which can lead to mutual trust between the government and the taxpayer community, so that tax payment activities will become a necessity and a willingness, not a obligation. Thus a pattern of relations between the state and society is created in fulfilling rights and obligations that are based on mutual trust. For the sake of realizing the Digital Economy in Indonesi

Several factors affect the performance of students. This investigation was conducted to find out the predictors of performance among students in the Central Mindanao University Laboratory High School (CMULHS). Results showed that CMULHS students performed well in English, Mathematics and Science in their elementary years. Their parents were actively involved in their children's school activities. They have slightly positive attitude towards schooling, fairly good study habits, highly motivated to study, and attributed their achievement for their efforts. Almost one-third of the students were not qualifiers of the University Laboratory High School Admission Test (ULHSAT). The proportion was an offshoot of the Board of Regents Resolution approving the admission of children of employees of the university. All variables included in this investigation were positive correlates of students' performance except for gender. The relationship ranged from weak positive to moderately high positive relationship.  Regression analysis indicated that 57.7% of students' performance was accounted for by all the variables included in this research investigation. The rest of the predictors of students' performance were Grade 6 English Grade, Grade 6 Math Grade, parental involvement, school graduated from, attribution, self-efficacy and motivation. Stepwise linear regression analysis showed that the best predictor of students' performance was the admission rating (ULHSAT rating) of the students with 36.6% coefficient of determination

Quality and excellence in the academic workplace demand an aggressive realization on the teachers' roles in the successful delivery of instruction. The 21st century educators are looked upon as globally competitive and adept in managing change. They must possess the five basic roles: transformers, facilitator, researcher, ethicist and psychological. (Salandanan 2006) Conscious of this construct, this study which was conducted in Naga District 1, City of Naga, Cebu, analysed how well the teachers' roles were carried out and how have these been affected by the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual factors. Utilizing the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, findings revealed that the teachers generally carried out their roles excellently. Likewise, there were significant interrelationships between and among the roles as well as the factors that affect them. Simply put, the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual factors directly affect the successful exercise of their roles. Teachers' Performance Appraisal and interview were likewise utilized for validation and findings were then conformed. The teacher’s physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being greatly affects the performance and exercise of his/her roles as facilitator, researcher, ethicist, psychological and effective teacher. Both are potent determinants towards quality and excellence, hence they have to be continually facilitated in and pursued upon by the teachers as well as the administration. A global teacher therefore carries out his/her roles meaningfully and makes education the center stage in the upliftment of a better society across nations

The conventional schoolroom scenario portrays the teaching-learning processes orchestrating in the four walls of the classroom. Flipped Classroom tries to do away with the traditional mode of lecture to a more dynamic classroom experience of the students where presentation of the contents are done outside the classroom utilizing instructional videos. This study determined the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom in the mathematics performance and anxiety of the Grade 7 students of Central Mindanao University Laboratory High School. Specifically, it aimed to answer the questions on the mathematics performance of the students when exposed to Flipped Classroom and to Non-Flipped Classroom before and after the experimentation and few days after the experimentation; on the mathematics anxiety of the students when exposed to Flipped Classroom and to Non-Flipped Classroom before and after the experimentation; on the difference in mathematics performance of the students when exposed to Flipped Classroom and to Non-Flipped Classroom after and few days after the experimentation as either significant or not; and lastly, on the difference in the mathematics anxiety of the students when exposed to Flipped Learning and to Non-Flipped Classroom as either significant or not. Results revealed that the mathematics performance of both groups recorded great improvements after the implementation. The mathematics performance of the students exposed to Flipped Classroom became significantly comparable with the mathematics performance of the students exposed to Non-Flipped Classroom in the retention test. On mathematics anxiety, the students are on moderate level in both groups before and after the implementation. Moreover, the mathematics anxiety of the students exposed to Flipped Classroom is lower after the implementation and it is even significantly lesser than the anxiety of the students exposed to Non-Flipped Classroom.  Article visualizations

Mathematical problem solving is considered as one of the many endpoints in teaching Mathematics to students. This study looked into the performance in mathematics problem solving among fourth year students of Central Mindanao University Laboratory High School and their relationship with students’ attitudes towards Mathematics. The attitudes measured were Attitude towards success in Math, Mother’s mathematics attitude, Father’s mathematics attitude, Motivation, Usefulness of Math, Teacher’s mathematics attitude, Confidence in learning math, and mathematics anxiety. It also investigated the metacognitive processes of students considering varying levels of their mathematics anxiety. It used the responses of 127 students. Of the 127, (nine) 9 were selected according to their mathematics anxiety levels to determine and compare their metacognitive processes. Results showed that students consider Mathematics as useful and they have a positive attitude towards success in Mathematics. The students’ fathers, mothers, and teachers also have positive attitudes towards their mathematics learning. However, overall, the students’ performance in mathematics problem solving is considered poor. Among the eight (8) mathematics attitudes only confidence in learning Math and mathematics anxiety were correlated with performance in mathematics problem solving. Confidence in learning Math was positively correlated, while mathematics anxiety was negatively correlated with performance in mathematics problem solving. Students with high mathematics anxiety tend to confirm their solutions with their classmates. Students with moderate anxiety are test-anxious and those with low anxiety are distracted by external factors, but can readily shift their focus back to problem solving. The three (3) cases showed that students with low, moderate, and high mathematics anxiety employed mostly orientation and execution procedures. There were only few instances of verification and lesser instances of organization procedures. Self-questioning was the most observed metacognitive skill. Furthermore, students from the three (3) cases were unable to correctly answer two (2) problems, both of which are non-routine due to unfamiliarity and “experiential interference”.  Article visualizations
