Rehabilitation Treatment following Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

    Get PDF
The shoulder is a very complex joint in the human body and, therefore, is easily injured and/or damaged. When conservative methods (pain reducing modalities, exercise, or medication) to treat the injury fail, an alternative method of treatment could be a total shoulder arthroplasty. Corrective surgery alone, however, is not enough. A rehabilitation program involving range of motion and strengthening exercises is fundamental in the successful return of function at the shoulder. The purpose of this literature review is to provide an overview of shoulder anatomy, surgical procedures of total shoulder arthroplasty, rehabilitation protocols, and outcomes. The information gained from this literature review will be useful for physical therapists who work with individuals following a total shoulder arthroplasty by enhancing their knowledge of surgical procedures, outcomes, and the importance of rehabilitation

This Bachelor thesis is about the usage of Norwegian folk music in primary school. With the help of a stratified sampling, a school in the city and a school on the country side was chosen for collecting data. The thesis showcases various approaches on how to teach folk music in primary school and sheds a light on the role the Norwegian folk music plays in primary school today. The Bachelor thesis has a theoretical build up, where the definition of folk music as well as music and identity are thoroughly represented. Progressing through the assignment there will be presented research from two different schools, as well as interviews with one music teacher from each school

Nonlinear empirical modeling using local PLS models

    Get PDF
This thesis proposes some new iterative local modeling algorithms for the multivariate approximation problem (mapping from R P to R). Partial Least Squares Regression (PLS)is used as the local linear modeling technique. The local models are interpolated by means of normalized Gaussian weight functions, providing a smooth total nonlinear model. The algorithms are tested on both artificial and real world set of data, yielding good predictions compared to other linear and nonlinear techniques

Skammen og dens brødre: Arbejdsløshed, maskulinitet og klasseskam

This article is about how it feels to be an unemployed man today. After briefly accounting for certain historical developments that have shaped the contemporary unemployed male experience, the article focuses on one feeling central to this experience: shame. The article argues that unemployment is increasingly attached to shame, rather than guilt, as the unemployed self perceives itself as inadequate in relation to a neoliberal ideal of entrepreneurship. Using sociological theories about class shame, the article proceeds to analyze two literary representations of unemployed men in a contemporary Danish context: Lau Aaen’s Dagpengeland and Jens Blendstrup’s Slagterkoner og Bagerenker. The shame in Dagpengeland breeds a critical attitude towards the shaming unemployment institutions of the welfare state, while Slagterkoner og Bagerenker explores the psychological processes of a form of shame turned into xenophobic resentment. Unemployed male shame is thus described as a multifaceted feeling; destructive in the sense that it tears down men’s ingrained identities and solidarities but productive in the sense that it affectively confronts the ashamed subject with certain social inequalities and injustices

Vertical Integration, Exclusivity and Game Sales Performance in the US Video Game Industry

This paper empirically investigates the relation between vertical integration and video game performance in the US video game industry. For this purpose, we use a widely used data set from NPD on video game monthly sales from October 2000 to October 2007. We complement these data with handly collected information on video game developers for all games in the sample and the timing of all mergers and acquisitions during that period. By doing this, we are able to separate vertically integrated games from those that are just exclusive to a platform. First, we show that vertically integrated games produce higher revenues and sell more units at higher prices than independent games. Second, we explore the causal effect of vertical integration and find that, for the average integrated game, most of the difference in performance comes from better release and marketing strategies that soften competition and not from ex-ante differences in video game quality. We also find that exclusivity is associated with lower demand. Our estimates suggest that consumers value vertical integration features in their games between 4 and 34 dollars per game
