    Bridging the gap between type 2 diabetes patients and doctors using Firebase for remote monitoring

    Cukura diabēts ir viena no visizplatītākajām slimībām pasaulē, kuras apmēri strauji turpina augt. Eiropā ar diabētu slimo vairāk kā 60 miljoni cilvēku, savukārt Latvijā 2016. gadā slimnieku skaits sasniedza gandrīz 90 000 cilvēku. Otrā tipa diabēts ir populārākais diabēta tips, skarot 90-95% slimnieku. Balstoties uz neseniem pētījumiem, ir pierādīts, ka efektīva atveseļošanās metode ir intervālu treniņi. Darba autors iesaistījās projektā “Staigā Vesels” un izstrādāja attālinātas pārraudzības sistēmu ārstiem un pacientiem, palīdzot aprobēt hipotēzi, ka regulāra un pārraudzīta intervālu treniņu veikšana uzlabo pacientu veselību. Galvenais darba mērķis ir izstrādāt sistēmu ārstiem un datu mākoņkrātuvi intervālu treniņu datu glabāšanai. Galvenie darba uzdevumi ir izpētīt un izvēlēties piemērotāko veidu, kā savienot eksistējošo Android lietotni Instawalk, kurā tiek veikti intervālu treniņi diabēta pacientiem un glikozes mērījumi, ar mākoņkrātuvi, un iespējot šo datu atrādīšanu pacientus uzraugošajiem ārstiem un veselības speciālistiem. Sistēmas ieviešana risina ekonomiskās un ģeogrāfiskās problēmas, ļaujot pacientiem jebkur Latvijā piedalīties diabēta atveseļošanās projektā bez vai ar ļoti mazām izmaksām. Šādas sistēmas izstrāde un ieviešana ļautu vienam ārstam pārraudzīt un rūpīgi uzmanīt lielāka skaitu pacientu atveseļošanos kā līdz šim, rezultātā palīdzot gan ārstiem sasniegt vairāk pacientus, gan nodrošinot diabēta pacientiem ērtu un pieejamu atveseļošanās veidu neatkarīgi no dzīvesvietas. Autors bakalaura darbā izveidoja Firebase mākoņkrātuvi, kuru savienoja ar esošo Android lietotni “Instawalk”, apkopojot visu pacientu datus vienuviet. Tika izstrādāta tīmekļa vietne ārstiem un veselības speciālistiem, kur šos datus var aplūkot, izdarīt secinājumus par pacientu treniņu izpildi un pielāgot treniņu programmas. Ārsti spēj apskatīt kopsavilkumu visiem pacientiem par konkrētām aktivitāšu dienām, izpētīt katra pacienta treniņa laikus, pulsa mērījumu grafikus un glikozes mērījumus. Darba autors sasniedza izvirzītos mērķus un secināja, ka veselības datu apstrāde ir kompleksa, ir nepieciešams pievērst uzmanību datu drošībai, apstrādei un rūpīgai analīzei. Firebase ir ļoti piemērots rīks šādām sistēmām. Liela nozīme ir komunikācijai ar gala lietotājiem – ārstiem un pacientiem.Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the world, the extent of which continues to grow rapidly. In Europe, there are more than 60 million people with diabetes, while in Latvia, in 2016, the number of patients reached nearly 90 000 people. Type-two diabetes is the most popular type of diabetes, affecting nearly 90-95% of diabetic patients. Based on recent studies, interval training has been recognized as an effective and time efficient recovery method. The author took a part in the “Staigā Vesels” project and developed a remote monitoring system for doctors and patients, thus helping to approbate a hypothesis that regular and monitored interval training improves patient health. The main purpose of the work is to research and then implement a fitting solution to connect the existing Android app Instawalk, which records interval training and glucose measurements for diabetic patients, with a cloud storage, and enable this data to be displayed for patients and health professionals. The newly implemented system solves economic and geographical challenges, allowing patients anywhere in Latvia to participate in the diabetes recovery project with no or close to zero costs. Such a system would allow the doctor to monitor and carefully follow the recovery process of multiple patients, resulting in helping both - doctors to reach more patients and enabling patients with an easy and accessible form of recovery regardless of their place of residence. The author created a Firebase cloud-storage, connected it to the Android app Instawalk, thus collecting all patient training data altogether. A web-based system for doctors and health professionals was developed, where the data could be observed by the doctors, therefore enabling training reviews and, if needed, allowed doctors to adjust patient's training program. Doctors are able to see a summary of patient's activities on exact days, examine each work, its duration, pulse and glucose measurements. The author of the work achieved the aims set and concluded that the processing of health data is a complex process; it is necessary to focus on data security, processing, and thorough analysis. Firebase is a great tool for such systems. Communication with end-users (patients and doctors) is a crucial part of health projects such as "Staigā Vesels"

    Aromatic Borozene

    Based on our comprehensive theoretical investigation and known experimental results for small boron clusters, we predict the existence of a novel aromatic inorganic molecule, B12H6. This molecule, which we refer to as borozene, has remarkably similar properties to the well-known benzene. Borozene is planar, possesses a large first excitation energy, D3h symmetry, and more importantly is aromatic. Furthermore, the calculated anisotropy of the magnetic susceptibility of borozene is three times larger in absolute value than for benzene. Finally, we can show that borozene molecules may be fused together to give larger aromatic compounds with even larger anisotropic susceptibilities.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures and 1 tabl

    Real-World Predictions from Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics Simulations

    In this review we present the techniques of ab initio molecular dynamics simulation improved to its current stage where the analysis of existing processes and the prediction of further chemical features and real-world processes are feasible. For this reason we describe the relevant developments in ab initio molecular dynamics leading to this stage. Among them, parallel implementations, different basis set functions, density functionals, and van der Waals corrections are reported. The chemical features accessible through AIMD are discussed. These are IR, NMR, as well as EXAFS spectra, sampling methods like metadynamics and others, Wannier functions, dipole moments of molecules in condensed phase, and many other properties.
