Analysis on the voltage stability on transmission network with PV interconnection

    Get PDF
Voltage stability means the ability of the power system network to maintain steady-state voltage value at all buses in the system under normal condition and after being subjected to a disturbance. This research highlights the effect of solar photovoltaic (PV) as the subject of disturbance to the network system as this kind of energy source has emerged towards higher level of integration into the national grid. High penetration of solar PV into the grid may cause several issues of stability and security to the system particularly effecting the normal voltage and line overloading. This research is focused on the simulation of power flow to study the transmission network behavior with and without the solar PV interconnection. To accomplish the research objectives, the network system will be modelled in a software known as Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE). The simulation result will be discussed and analyzed using Voltage Stability Indices (VSI) to prove and strengthen the theory behind the literature review

    Get PDF
Conventionally, the control of liquid slosh system is done based on model-based techniques that challenging to implement practically because of the chaotic motion of fluid in the container. The aim of this article is to develop the tuning technique for model-free PID with derivative filter (PIDF) parameters for liquid slosh suppression system based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). PSO algorithm is responsible to find the optimal values for PIDF parameters based on fitness functions which are Sum Squared Error (SSE) and Sum Absolute Error (SAE) of the cart position and liquid slosh angle response. The modelling of liquid slosh in lateral movement is considered to justify the design of control scheme. The PSO tuning method is compared by heuristic tuning method in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed tuning approach. The performance evaluations of the proposed tuning method are based on the ability of the tank to follow the input in horizontal motion and liquid slosh level reduction in time domain. Based on the simulation results, the suggested tuning method is capable to reduce the liquid slosh level in the same time produces fast input tracking of the tank without precisely model the chaotic motion of the fluid

The impact of (Canarium Odontophyllum Miq.) Dabai Optimum Soaking Condition Towards the Development of Dabai Peanut Spread Physicochemical Properties and Sensory Evaluation

    Get PDF
Canarium odontophyllum miq. also known as dabai is known as Sarawak indigenous fruit and utilised for dabai peanut spread formulation. Dabai is physically hard in texture and consumed by soaking under heat treatment. Therefore, dabai optimum soaking condition is determined followed by the development of dabai peanut spread. The determination of soaking condition requires: soaking time (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12) mins and soaking temperature (50°C, 60°C, 70°C and 80°C) as independent variables, and (water absorption, crude protein content, crude fat content, moisture content, ash content and colour) as dependent variables. 50°C for 4 minutes is the optimum dabai soaking condition, and it is being utilised for dabai peanut spread formulation. There were six different formulations with different ratios of soaked dabai and roasted peanut, and further underwent proximate analyses and sensory evaluation test. The combination of a low amount of soaked dabai (40 g) with a high amount of roasted peanut (160 g) has produced a high amount of crude protein (10.65%) and crude fat (35.95%) and was found significantly (p<0.05) acceptable by the panellists. The information obtained provides a better understanding of dabai as a potential food product ingredient

Background: The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) was designed in 1998 by Chung and colleagues at the University of Michigan in 1998. It is a hand-specific patient-rated outcome (PRO) instrument used to measure patients' outcome with conditions of, or injury to, the hand and/or wrist. This study is aimed at translating and cross-culturally adapting the MHQ into Bahasa Melayu (BM), examining the validity and reliability of the MHQ-BM version for our local population to be used as a patient-rated outcome measurement in Malaysian patients with hand injuries. Methods: This study was performed in two phases. Phase 1 involved the translation of the MHQ into BM using Beaton Protocol. In Phase 2, we administered the final version of the MHQ-BM in patients with hand and/or wrist injuries to test its stability (n = 50) and validity (n = 185). Results: The MHQ-BM showed good content and face validity. Cronbach α totalled 0.821 for the MHQ-BM. The Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) of the test-retest reliability for the six domains ranged from 0.960 to 0.984 with excellent correlation (ICC = 0.984) for the total score. The BM version of MHQ-BM showed excellent test-retest reliability. Conclusions: The MHQ-BM is well-translated and culturally well-adapted to maintain the reliability and content validity of the instrument (MHQ) at a conceptual level across Malaysia. We found the application and evaluation of the instrument to be feasible and understandable among patients with hand and/or wrist injuries in Malaysia

Deworming the grinder for successful extrication of a mangled hand: a case report

Grinding machine injuries are known to cause severe mutilating injuries of the upper limb. In some cases, the machinery equipment may still be attached to the limb when the patient reaches the hospital. In treating these injuries, the patient’s hemodynamic status should be the first priority of resuscitation. Following this and whenever possible, a reversal of the grinding mechanism should be done to free the limb. This would allow assessment of the extent of zone-of-injury prior to starting the surgical procedure. We report a case of a 28-year-old male who sustained a mangled hand injury that was successfully extricated from an industrial grinding machine, thereby allowing preservation of precious length of the limb during surgery. This case highlights the importance of adhering to safety precautions at the workplace to reduce the risk of potential occupational hazards when dealing with machinery equipment

Rising from the Sea: Correlations between Sulfated Polysaccharides and Salinity in Plants

    Get PDF
High salinity soils inhibit crop production worldwide and represent a serious agricultural problem. To meet our ever-increasing demand for food, it is essential to understand and engineer salt-resistant crops. In this study, we evaluated the occurrence and function of sulfated polysaccharides in plants. Although ubiquitously present in marine algae, the presence of sulfated polysaccharides among the species tested was restricted to halophytes, suggesting a possible correlation with salt stress or resistance. To test this hypothesis, sulfated polysaccharides from plants artificially and naturally exposed to different salinities were analyzed. Our results revealed that the sulfated polysaccharide concentration, as well as the degree to which these compounds were sulfated in halophytic species, were positively correlated with salinity. We found that sulfated polysaccharides produced by Ruppia maritima Loisel disappeared when the plant was cultivated in the absence of salt. However, subjecting the glycophyte Oryza sativa Linnaeus to salt stress did not induce the biosynthesis of sulfated polysaccharides but increased the concentration of the carboxylated polysaccharides; this finding suggests that negatively charged cell wall polysaccharides might play a role in coping with salt stress. These data suggest that the presence of sulfated polysaccharides in plants is an adaptation to high salt environments, which may have been conserved during plant evolution from marine green algae. Our results address a practical biological concept; additionally, we suggest future strategies that may be beneficial when engineering salt-resistant crops
