    Geographical Indications for Kodagu Coffee – A Socio-economic Feasibility Analysis

    The feasibility of Geographical Indications (GI) for the Kodagu coffee has been explored, as the coffee is grown under shade and unique conditions in the midst of rich biodiversity; as a result, the productivity of coffee turns out to be relatively low. The results have indicated that productivity of coffee is lower (6 q/ acre) when grown under high shade and native tree cover than under low shade condition (8.9 q/acre). Although, the difference in cost of cultivation between the two shade conditions is not significant, the net gain is to the tune of Rs 10.40/kg for the planters growing under low shade and exotic trees cover. The net loss has been estimated to be around Rs 15.50/kg for the planters growing under high shade and native trees cover. The marginal loss in the productivity of coffee due to shade is not directly reimbursable through the shade benefits. Hence, the coffee planters need to be compensated through a price premium for their products produced under rich biodiversity, thus requiring the GI that ensures quality and price.Agricultural and Food Policy,

    Klein Bottles and Simple Currents

    The standard Klein bottle coefficient in the construction of open descendants is shown to equal the Frobenius-Schur indicator of a conformal field theory. Other consistent Klein bottle projections are shown to correspond to simple currents. These observations enable us to generalize the standard open string construction from C-diagonal parent theories to include non-standard Klein bottles. Using (generalizations of) the Frobenius-Schur indicator we prove positivity and integrality of the resulting open and closed string state multiplicities for standard as well as non-standard Klein bottles.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX.     Quantum feedback control of a solid-state qubit

    We have studied theoretically the basic operation of a quantum feedback loop designed to maintain a desired phase of quantum coherent oscillations in a single solid-state qubit. The degree of oscillations synchronization with external harmonic signal is calculated as a function of feedback strength, taking into account available bandwidth and coupling to environment.     Generalized Calogero-Moser systems from rational Cherednik algebras

    We consider ideals of polynomials vanishing on the W-orbits of the intersections of mirrors of a finite reflection group W. We determine all such ideals which are invariant under the action of the corresponding rational Cherednik algebra hence form submodules in the polynomial module. We show that a quantum integrable system can be defined for every such ideal for a real reflection group W. This leads to known and new integrable systems of Calogero-Moser type which we explicitly specify.     Design and experimental evaluation of a test rig for ultrasonic monitoring of sccelerated corrosion

    The design of a test rig for ultrasonic monitoring of corroding steel samples and results of its experimental evaluation are presented. In order to accelerate and quantify corrosion, the monitored sample acts as an anode in a typical constant current electroplating setup. An Arduino-powered microcontroller is used to log the relevant voltage and current values on an SD card, and a high accuracy ultrasonic waveform acquisition instrument is employed to record the ultrasonic waveforms reflected form the corroding surface. Experimental assessment of the designed rig confirmed that it met the design objectives and could be used for experimental studies of accelerated corrosion in steel samples

    Entanglement of solid-state qubits by measurement

    We show that two identical solid-state qubits can be made fully entangled (starting from completely mixed state) with probability 1/4 just measuring them by a detector, equally coupled to the qubits. This happens in the case of repeated strong (projective) measurements as well as in a more realistic case of weak continuous measurement. In the latter case the entangled state can be identified by a flat spectrum of the detector shot noise, while the non-entangled state (probability 3/4) leads to a spectral peak at the Rabi frequency with the maximum peak-to-pedestal ratio of 32/3.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

    Indigenous Contractors' Knowledge Management Maturity Level for Construction of Healthcare Vaccines Cold Store in Nigeria

    This study evaluates the level of knowledge management maturity (KMM) of Nigerian indigenous contractors for the construction of vaccine cold stores in line with the World Health Organization's (WHO) best practices. This study identifies the significant factors influencing contractors' KMM for the construction of vaccine cold stores. The study adopted a quantitative research approach, and the comparison methodologies between the contractors' KMM and WHO's practices were achieved through ANOVA with Post Hoc. The study respondents were mainly the project managers working with contractors and the ones working with the public sector in Nigeria. The total population of the project managers was 2150 which 322 respondents were selected for the analysis. The results indicated that the level of the contractors' KMM is "Knowledge Quantitative Managed Level" against WHO's "Knowledge Optimization Level". The contractor's level of KMM was found to be at the quantitative knowledge-managed level. Meaning i.e., the organizational standard level which is less than the recommended WHO's optimization level. This research work establishes a new KMM level for Nigerian contractors which was based on the perception of project managers in the Nigerian construction industry. The findings from this study create awareness of the process of KMM measurement in healthcare facilities in developing countries like Nigeria. This implies that the Nigerian indigenous contractors are at a level of knowledge quantitative managed. Hence, the knowledge-quantitative managed level is the technical requirement level. This implies that the Nigerian indigenous contractors fall short of the WHO's recommended level of KMM optimization level. Therefore, there is a need to improve KMM practices for the indigenous contractors in Nigeria
