The Vega debris disc: A view from Herschel

    Get PDF
We present five band imaging of the Vega debris disc obtained using the Herschel Space Observatory. These data span a wavelength range of 70-500 mu m with full-width half-maximum angular resolutions of 5.6-36.9 ''. The disc is well resolved in all bands, with the ring structure visible at 70 and 160 mu m. Radial profiles of the disc surface brightness are produced, and a disc radius of 11 '' (similar to 85AU) is determined. The disc is seen to have a smooth structure thoughout the entire wavelength range, suggesting that the disc is in a steady state, rather than being an ephemeral structure caused by the recent collision of two large planetesimals

Effect of Immunosuppressive Treatments on Kidney Outcomes After Gross Hematuria-Related Acute Kidney Injury in Older Patients With IgA Nephropathy

Macroscopic hematuria (MH) bouts, frequently accompanied by acute kidney injury (AKI-MH) are one of the most common presentations of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) in the elderly. Immunosuppressive therapies are used in clinical practice; however, no studies have analyzed their efficacy on kidney outcomes. This is a retrospective, multicenter study of a cohort of patients aged ≥50 years with biopsy-proven IgAN presenting with AKI-MH. Outcomes were complete, partial, or no recovery of kidney function at 1 year after AKI-MH, and kidney survival at 1, 2, and 5 years. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was applied to balance baseline differences between patients treated with immunosuppression and those not treated with immunosuppression. The study group consisted of 91 patients with a mean age of 65 ± 15 years, with a mean follow-up of 59 ± 36 months. Intratubular red blood cell (RBC) casts and acute tubular necrosis were found in all kidney biopsies. The frequency of endocapillary hypercellularity and crescents were low. Immunosuppressive therapies (corticosteroids alone or combined with mycophenolate mofetil or cyclophosphamide) were prescribed in 52 (57%) patients, whereas 39 (43%) received conservative treatment. There were no significant differences in the proportion of patients with complete, partial, or no recovery of kidney function at 1 year between patients treated with immunosuppression and those not treated with immunosuppression (29% vs. 36%, 30.8% vs. 20.5% and 40.4 % vs. 43.6%, respectively). Kidney survival at 1, 3, and 5 years was similar among treated and untreated patients (85% vs. 81%, 77% vs. 76% and 72% vs. 66%, respectively). Despite the PSM analysis, no significant differences were observed in kidney survival between the two groups. Fourteen patients (27%) treated with immunosuppression had serious adverse events. Conclusions: Immunosuppressive treatments do not modify the unfavorable prognosis of patients with IgAN who are aged ≥50 years presenting with AKI-MH, and are frequently associated with severe complications

After the meeting held by the Spanish Contact Dermatitis and Skin Allergy Research Group (GEIDAC) back in October 2021, changes were suggested to the Spanish Standard Series patch testing. Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2% pet.), textile dye mixt (6.6% pet.), linalool hydroperoxide (1% pet.), and limonene hydroperoxide (0.3% pet.) were, then, added to the series that agreed upon in 2016. Ethyldiamine and phenoxyethanol were excluded. Methyldibromoglutaronitrile, the mixture of sesquiterpene lactones, and hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene (Lyral) were also added to the extended Spanish series of 2022. (c) 2024 AEDV. The 3C cooperation model applied to the classical requirement analysis

Aspects related to the users' cooperative work are not considered in the traditional approach of software engineering, since the user is viewed independently of his/her workplace environment or group, with the individual model generalized to the study of collective behavior of all users. This work proposes a process for software requirements to address issues involving cooperative work in information systems that provide distributed coordination in the users' actions and the communication among them occurs indirectly through the data entered while using the software. To achieve this goal, this research uses ergonomics, the 3C cooperation model, awareness and software engineering concepts. Action-research is used as a research methodology applied in three cycles during the development of a corporate workflow system in a technological research company. This article discusses the third cycle, which corresponds to the process that deals with the refinement of the cooperative work requirements with the software in actual use in the workplace, where the inclusion of a computer system changes the users' workplace, from the face to face interaction to the interaction mediated by the software. The results showed that the highest degree of users' awareness about their activities and other system users contribute to a decrease in their errors and in the inappropriate use of the system
