An Empirical Analysis of Inventory Turnover Performance Within a Local Chinese Supermarket

Retail inventory is an important indicator for retailers as well as their shareholders and suppliers. Inventory enables retailer to sell products to customer but excessive or slow moving inventory also add extra cost. For shareholders and suppliers this is an indication of retailer’s bright or grim future. The aim of this research is to analyze the inventory turnover’s impact on the performance variables of profit margin percentage and sale surprise in one of the retailing firm of Hubei province China. We will study if inventory turnover is affected by profit margin percentage and sale surprise similarly across all categories and modes of operation in retail firm or there is some variation in the known behavior. We will be testing our hypothesis on data of a large local supermarket chain that operates in the Hubei province of China. They have multiple supermarkets in the tier 1 and tier 2 cities of the province. We investigate correlation of inventory turnover with profit margin percentage and sale surprise across different categories and modes of operation. The analysis reveals that there is a negative correlation between Inventory Turnover and profit margin percentage, while positive correlation exists between Inventory Turnover and Sale surprise across all categories and modes. But its rate of correlation varies between categories and channel structure

The Effect of Product Variety on Inventory Turnover in Different Modes of Operation

We study the effects of product variety on operational metrics - inventory turnover and on sales in different mode of operations. Research has shown that performance metrics can vary in different mode of operations. Using 41 months of data from a large retailer, we show that correlation of product variety with inventory turnover and sales is not always negative or positive as shown in previous studies. This correlation can vary depending upon the mode of operations and type of product. Our study highlights impact of increased product variety on inventory turnover and sales in different mode of operations that has previously been overlooked in studies of retail product variety and inventory management. Preparation and Characterization of Poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) Nanoparticles with Possible Applications in Controlled Drug Delivery

The present work describes preparation, structural and morphological characterization of PHEMA nanoparticles. It is found that the nanoparticles are having size up to 100 nm and are almost identical in shape. Wound healing suppressant effect of vincristine reversed by vitamin A: an experimental study

Background: Use of antineoplastic drugs pre and postoperatively have shown to adversely affect the healing of surgical wounds. Vincristine is an antineoplastic drug with a wide range of antitumor activity. Prior studies have demonstrated that vincristine impairs skin wound healing.Methods: In this study we investigated the effect of vitamin A on vincristine induced suppression of healing in two wound models, viz: incision and dead space in rats. Hydroxyproline (measure of collagen) was estimated colorimetrically and breaking strength of the wound and granulation tissue was measured.Results: Vincristine (60 mcg/Kg intraperitoneally, on the 3rd wounding day) significantly reduced breaking strength in both incision and dead space wound models. Vitamin A (5000 I.U, Subcutaneously on alternate days) by itself did not alter any of the parameters studied but reversed the suppressant effects of vincristine on wound healing.Conclusions: Vitamin A by itself produced little effect on healing except a modest increase in granulation mass. But it significantly reversed the healing suppressant effects of vincristine

On the optimum mesh size for the capture of Barbus tor (Hamilton)

Results of mesh selectivity experiments on B. tor are presented in this paper. Selectivity curve on the basis of maximum girth of fish in relation to perimeter of mesh was worked out. The optimum girth/mesh perimeter ratio was found to be 1.31. A linear regression of G+0.445L=12.8 was fitted for conversion of length to girth

Leading sustainable schools in the era of Education 4.0: Identifying school leadership competencies in Malaysian secondary schools

The purpose of the study was to develop an empirical School Leadership Competency Model for the era of Education 4.0 (SLCMEduc4.0) to identify school leadership competencies that facilitate and maximize effectiveness in leading sustainable schools in Malaysia. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was employed to identify the underlying factors whereas Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was applied to test the measurement models using Structural Equation Modelling. A total of 444 and 931 respondents completed the survey with usable data for EFA and CFA respectively. The results suggested that the SLCMEdu4.0 can be explained by eight factors namely; Leading for Learning, Emotional Intelligence, Critical Thinking, Communication and Ethics, Collaboration, Decision Making and Problem Solving, Digital Dexterity and Entrepreneurial with good fit statistics; normed x2=2.628, TLI=.950, CFI=.954 and RMSEA=.042. With a total of 40 items, the model also features good convergent and discriminant validity and construct reliability. The SLCMEduc4.0 is a coherent premier model that provides useful feedback for practitioners in planning, designing and evaluating future professional development programmes for school leaders. The study encourages a fresh look at educational leadership development locally and globally specifically in enhancing the leadership development of Malaysian school leaders towards productive change in the era of Education 4.0

Population characteristics of Phthiraptera occurring on Red Whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus)

Two phthirapteran species, Menacanthus eurysternus (Amblycera) and Brueelia sp. (Ischnocera) were recovered from 100 Red Whiskered Bulbuls (Pycnonotus jocosus) during March to December 2006. The occurrence of both the phthirapteran species on the aforesaid host are new host records. The prevalence, intensity of infestation, range of infestation, variance to mean ratio, sex ratio, adult nymph ratio, index of discrepancy (D) and exponent of negative binomial (k) were computed. The frequency distribution pattern of M. eurysternus conforms to negative binomial model. The frequency distribution pattern of Brueelia sp. was skewed but not described by the negative binomial

Studies on the antidiarrhoeal, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of ethanol-extracted leaves of yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana)

This study screened the antidiarrhoeal, antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects of ethanol-extracted leaves of yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana). The extract was tested against castor oil-induced diarrhoea in a model of albino rats and showed significant antidiarrhoeal activity (P<0.01). Disc diffusion technique was used to test the in vitro antibacterial activities of the extract and exhibited poor antibacterial activities against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria (mainly Bacillus sp). Ethanol-extracted leaves of yellow oleander showed narrow zone of inhibition in the bacterial lawns of Shigella flexineri, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella sp, Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella sonnei. Cytotoxicty was determined against brine shrimp nauplii and LC50 of the plant extract was determined as 627.21μg/ml. The wide range of LC50 value denotes the safety effect of the extract

Influence of barreling in deformation and densification behaviour of sintered powder forged preforms

The present research establishes a relationship between density and combined axial and hoop strain experienced by the powder metallurgy (P/M) preforms during processing and an experimental investigation on the cold upsetting of a Cu-7%Al-1.8%Si preform is studied in the present work. Preforms with three different aspect ratios (height-to-diameter ratio), namely, 0.4, 0.6 and 1 were prepared by primary P/M operations followed by furnace cooled. Further these preforms were subjected to secondary operations such as cold upsetting under dry friction condition. The calculated barrel radius conformed to the experimentally measured barrel radius and a linear behaviour was observed between the measured and calculated radius of curvature of the barrel. Also, a relationship is established between barrelling and density and other influencing physical parameter such as the stress ratios, namely, (σ_z⁄σ_m ),(σ_θ⁄σ_m ) and(σ_θ⁄σ_eff ), which were determined using dimensional output and density measurements
