The study examined rural farmers’ perception on the use of Agricultural Mechanization in agricultural production in Rivers State. The study employed a descriptive survey design to seek the opinions of the respondents. The population of the study consists of all rural farmers in the 23 local government areas in Rivers State. 102 rural farmers were randomly selected from 6 local government areas, giving the total sample size as 612 respondents. The data gathered was analyzed using mean and standard deviation with acceptance mean value of ≥3.00. The study revealed that agricultural mechanization can be used to carry out different farm operation in the farming process. It also revealed that there are lots of benefits in the use of agricultural mechanization in farming, this include; increase in productivity, reduction in time of operation, increase in income generation opportunities, increase in stable development of food system among others. The study also revealed that Scarcity of machinery, Shortage of spare parts, Illiteracy of the farmers, Fragmentation, Lack of capital are some challenges bedeviling the use of agricultural mechanization in the rural areas. However, the study recommended that government should make Agricultural Mechanization available and accessible to farmers as to boost and motivate farmers in using them to maximize production; large area of land should be made available to willing farmers who want to go into large scale production. Keywords: Agricultural Mechanization, rural farmers, agricultural productio

    California Futures Network

When SPUR, one of our affiliates, asked me to write an article about the California Futures Network, the request came at a time when CFN itself is going through an examination of its own future direction and is still implementing changes that came out of a major Strategic Plan process in 2001-2002.CFN had a major success last year in having the Governor sign AB 857, which for the first time sets state policy priorities for guiding future capital and infrastructure projects. With this achievement, CFN has become a visible force in the policy reform movement, and has an opportunity to educate an identified group of state leaders about workable approaches to land use reform measures

    The Nebraska State Capitol

A High Peak of Architectural Progress Some little while ago there appeared on this page a saying to the effect that progress is a blind succession of events fully exposed only through the agency of a capable interpreter. This issue of American Architect is proof of that contention. The Nebraska State Capitol—to which the issue is entirely devoted—is much more than an excellent example of unusual monumental design or even a symbol of democratic government. It marks an important period in the history of building progress. In many ways the architectural genius of Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue dramatized in this design a peak in the history of building accomplishment. As a break from the precedent of tradition the Nebraska State Capitol did much to advance a new and more virile architectural philosophy. From the engineering standpoint the building embodies the cumulative results of American energy, inventive skill and organizing ability; and from all combined points of view it stands as a remarkable interpretation of innumerable events that have shaped the progress of American art. industry and democratic government. For any one of these reasons American Archltect might be proud to publish the Nebraska State Capitol. In combination they make an entire issue necessary to present exclusively a most outstanding example of architectural progress. Kata Kunci :Tari Piring Gelas; makna; masyarakat  ABSTRACTThis writing aims to discuss the meaning of the Piring Gelas dance in the people of Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatera Province. In this case, the descriptive qualitative method of analysis is used to describe and describe the data seen in the field in real terms and what is then analyzed. The theory used about form by Soedarsono and the theory of sign, signifier and signified by Ferdinand De Saussure. The writing of the Piring Gelas dance discusses the meaning associated with signs, markers and signifieds. Signs, markers and markers in the Piring Gelas dance are found in dancers, greetings, selyang motion, plate lifting motion, plate-up motion, rotating motion, transitional motion, costumes, and supporting media. The signs, markers and signs have meaning and message that a woman in Musi Rawas Regency must have an attitude of courage, calm, and determination in living life. Keywords: Piring Gelas Dance; meaning; society

Linear Permanent Magnet Machines for Oil Pumping Systems

    Get PDF
Sucker rod pumping systems are the dominant technology used currently in oil pumping systems for stripper (marginal) wells. The system consists of a high-speed rotating prime mover, a linear reciprocating pump, a gear reducer and a crank and beam mechanism to translate the high-speed rotating motion into a low-speed linear motion. A sucker rod pumping system requires a relatively large surface area which limits its use in offshore applications. Moreover, the sucker rod pumping system cannot be used in deviated wells because of the long steel sucker rod. In this research, the replacement of the sucker rod pumping system with a permanent magnet linear motor which drives the reciprocating pump directly is presented. In this system, the motor drive is placed on the surface and connected to the motor through a long cable. The motor is placed downhole to drive the reciprocating pump. The main challenges of this system result from the high temperature downhole and the long transmission cable and will be discussed in detail. Another system which replaces the AC cable with a DC cable is proposed. In this system, the inverter is integrated with the motor downhole while the rectifier remains on the surface. A modified integrated motor drive with a speed control algorithm is proposed. Moreover, two sensorless algorithms are developed; one for the AC system and one for the DC system. The DC system algorithm estimates the motor position based on the motor model using the current and voltage measurements. The AC system sensorless algorithm utilizes both the motor and cable models to estimate the motor position and motor current. Finally, a pump monitoring system is developed to detect the common pump faults. An observer is developed to estimate the load force from the motor current and speed. The load force could be used along the motor position to identify various fault signatures

This article studies the main representations of the Spanish news media on the mobility of people and their visibility in journalistic discourse. It analyzes the media coverage of the arrival of the Aquarius Ship at the port of Valencia. The analysis has two stages. First, 600 news items are analyzed, published between June 17 and July 10, 2018, in the 10 digital news media with highest audience according to Comscore. In the second stage, a case study is carried out on the visibility of refugees as information sources on elpais.com. The results show the scant coverage given to immigrants as the central focus of the news and the low inclusion as information sources. © 2021 Universidad Complutense de Madrid. All rights reserved
