    Models and phenomenology

    It is evident that models of the knee should match the observational phenomenology. In this talk I discuss a few aspects of phenomenology, which are important not only for the understanding of the knee origin, but also for the general problem of the origin of cosmic rays. Among them are the shape of the energy spectrum, its irregularity, the sharpness of the knee and its fine structure. The classification of models is given and some examples of the most recent models are discussed.     Magnetic degeneracy and hidden metallicity of the spin density wave state in ferropnictides

    We analyze spin density wave (SDW) order in iron-based superconductors and electronic structure in the SDW phase. We consider an itinerant model for Fe-pnictides with two hole bands centered at (0,0)(0,0) and two electron bands centered at (0,π)(0,\pi) and (π,0)(\pi,0) in the unfolded BZ. A SDW order in such a model is generally a combination of two components with momenta (0,π)(0,\pi) and (π,0)(\pi,0), both yield (π,π)(\pi,\pi) order in the folded zone. Neutron experiments, however, indicate that only one component is present. We show that (0,π)(0,\pi) or (π,0)(\pi,0) order is selected if we assume that only one hole band is involved in the SDW mixing with electron bands. A SDW order in such 3-band model is highly degenerate for a perfect nesting and hole-electron interaction only, but we show that ellipticity of electron pockets and interactions between electron bands break the degeneracy and favor the desired (0,π)(0,\pi) or (π,0)(\pi,0) order. We further show that stripe-ordered system remains a metal for arbitrary coupling. We analyze electronic structure for parameters relevant to the pnictides and argue that the resulting electronic structure is in good agreement with ARPES experiments.     Parameterized Complexity of Secluded Connectivity Problems

    The Secluded Path problem models a situation where a sensitive information has to be transmitted between a pair of nodes along a path in a network. The measure of the quality of a selected path is its exposure, which is the total weight of vertices in its closed neighborhood. In order to minimize the risk of intercepting the information, we are interested in selecting a secluded path, i.e. a path with a small exposure. Similarly, the Secluded Steiner Tree problem is to find a tree in a graph connecting a given set of terminals such that the exposure of the tree is minimized. The problems were introduced by Chechik et al. in [ESA 2013]. Among other results, Chechik et al. have shown that Secluded Path is fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) on unweighted graphs being parameterized by the maximum vertex degree of the graph and that Secluded Steiner Tree is FPT parameterized by the treewidth of the graph. In this work, we obtain the following results about parameterized complexity of secluded connectivity problems. We give FPT-algorithms deciding if a graph G with a given cost function contains a secluded path and a secluded Steiner tree of exposure at most k with the cost at most C. We initiate the study of "above guarantee" parameterizations for secluded problems, where the lower bound is given by the size of a Steiner tree. We investigate Secluded Steiner Tree from kernelization perspective and provide several lower and upper bounds when parameters are the treewidth, the size of a vertex cover, maximum vertex degree and the solution size. Finally, we refine the algorithmic result of Chechik et al. by improving the exponential dependence from the treewidth of the input graph.Comment: Minor corrections are don

    Interplay between magnetism and superconductivity in Fe-pnictides

    We consider phase transitions and potential co-existence of spin-density-wave (SDW) magnetic order and extended s-wave (s+s^+) superconducting order within a two-band itinerant model of iron pnictides, in which SDW magnetism and s+s^+ superconductivity are competing orders. We show that depending on parameters, the transition between these two states is either first order, or involves an intermediate phase in which the two orders co-exist. We demonstrate that such co-existence is possible when SDW order is incommensurate.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    NN Interaction JISP16: Current Status and Prospect

    We discuss realistic nonlocal NN interactions of a new type - J-matrix Inverse Scattering Potential (JISP). In an ab exitu approach, these interactions are fitted to not only two-nucleon data (NN scattering data and deuteron properties) but also to the properties of light nuclei without referring to three-nucleon forces. We discuss recent progress with the ab initio No-core Shell Model (NCSM) approach and respective progress in developing ab exitu JISP-type NN-interactions together with plans of their forthcoming improvements.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Proceedings of Few-body 19 conferenc
