    Applicable data was categorized and processed according to vehicle usage and trip parameters with consideration of payload (cargo, people, size) and driving cycles. A mission that maximizes the fuel potential savings for the total 1985 vehicle fleet was selected. Mission requirements that have a bearing on conventional and hybrid vehicle performance and characteristics were identified and formulated and a reference ICE vehicle was selected that meets or exceeds all requirements while maintaining within applicable constraints.     Hormonal responses to water deficit in cambial tissues of Populus alba L.

    Changes of the concentration of bioactive gibberellins and abscisic acid in the cambial region of white poplar (Populus alba L.) were investigated in one-year-old plants, to highlight how these phytohormone signals are modulated in response to water deficit. Plants were cultivated in pots outdoor and, at the time of maximum cambial growth (T0), irrigation was withdrawn for 8 d, inducing a mild water deficit, thus mimicking a condition that is recurrent in mediterranean climates when white poplar attains its maximum growth rate. The water deficit was suspended by resuming irrigation (Tmax), throughout a recovery period of two weeks (Trec). Cambial tissues were sampled at T0, Tmax and Trec. Significant changes of leaf and stem relative water content, leaf water potential, stomatal conductance, transpiration, carbon assimilation, stem shrinkage and leaf number were induced by soil water shortage, which also negatively affected cambium development. Nevertheless, these responses were almost fully reversed following the resumption of irrigation. Water deficit induced the accumulation of large amounts of abscisic acid in cambial tissues, but the hormone was brought back to pre-stress levels after the recovery period. With regard to bioactive gibberellins, GA1 was several fold more abundant than GA4 and reached the greatest level in the plants recovering from the water status imbalance. The possible functions of gibberellins and abscisic acid in the response of cambial tissues to water deficit are discussed in view of the known physiological roles and molecular mechanisms of action of these hormonal signals

    In a world increasingly aware of the environmental cost of the current production/ consumption model, the use of sustainable practices to reduce our environmental impact as a society becomes imperative. One way to reduce this impact is to increase the reuse of materials that are considered, by current definitions of ”waste”, at their end of life. End-of-Life Household Materials (EoLHM) can be defined as household waste materials that still possess exploitable properties, thus making them suitable for reuse. There are several studies in the literature that address the recycling of these materials. When it comes to their reuse, unfortunately, only a limited number of studies are available. This paper aims to fill this gap by investigating the possibility to convert EoLHM, such as clothes or packaging, into low-cost thermal insulating materials for the improvement of the indoor thermal comfort in buildings, especially for households at risk of suffering from energy poverty. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature review and a qualitative analysis of both commercial and EoLHM are proposed. Commercial thermal insulating materials analysis is used as a reference to measure the performance of EoLHM. Important aspects to be considered when choosing suitable EoLHM for a smart conversion and reuse are also investigated. The most important outcome of this investigation is the comprehension that the conversion of EoLHM into insulating material is possible, and it implies a direct reduction in waste production, with environmental benefits and positive social implications. However, some aspects such as adaptability, life expectancy, collection and storage are, at present, in need of further thinking and development to make the EoLHM reuse and re-conversion processes viable on a large (neighborhood/city) scale

    This paper investigates the possibility to realize solutions for buildings thermal and acoustic refurbishment by using end-of-life household materials, such as cardboard, clothes, and egg-boxes. These solutions can be installed to improve the indoor quality in neighborhoods populated by people below the poverty threshold. The considered end-of-life household materials and their combination have been analyzed from the acoustic and thermal points of view. First of all, the sound insulation and the sound absorption properties have been determined by means of an impedance tube. Then, the summer and the winter thermal performances, when coupled to different wall systems, have been investigated analitically. The results suggest that good thermal and acoustic characteristics can be achieved in a contained thickness by coupling end-of-life household materials

    On 31th December 2019 an increasing number of pneumonia of unknown aetiology that depend on a new virus, SarsCoV-2, has been registered. The epicentre of the spread of the pathogen has been identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan, but the Coronavirus has reached other neighbouring countries and on January 24th the first cases have been ascertained in Europe, until the World Health Organization declared the state of pandemic. Coaching can be the key to find oneself and therefore to focus more effectively on the actual bonds, affections and investments, at least slightly reducing the need for elsewhere that often characterizes the escape from oneself. In our experience, coaching can stimulate and promote the growth and improvement of personal resources and the potential of each individual in full respect of their uniqueness and their peculiar characteristics, helping to revive the ability to think and dream of a better future. Specifically, in this particularly delicate moment, embarking on a coaching process can make learn resilience, acquire specific skills and discover transversal abilities. Coaching can offer the opportunity to find the motivation and perseverance to adopt functional behaviours to achieve a greater level of well-being. The coaching process can transform this moment of crisis into an opportunity for personal and professional growth, facing uncertainty and change, keeping the course and focus on own objectives, investing to improve himself. The construction of an ethics of collaboration and solidarity, in which everyone renounces something in the name of the common good could be the best way to look forward to the future with less anxiety and to preserve mental and physical health
