    Structure determination from powder data : Mogul and CASTEP

    When solving the crystal structure of complex molecules from powder data, accurately locating the global minimum can be challenging, particularly where the number of internal degrees of freedom is large. The program Mogul provides a convenient means to access typical torsion angle ranges for fragments related to the molecule of interest. The impact that the application of modal torsion angle constraints has on the structure determination process of two structure solution attempts using DASH is presented. Once solved, accurate refinement of a molecular structure against powder data can also present challenges. Geometry optimisation using density functional theory in CASTEP is shown to be an effective means to locate hydrogen atom positions reliably and return a more accurate description of molecular conformation and intermolecular interactions than global optimisation and Rietveld refinement alone

    Investigating processing window of Affinisol™ and Plasdone™ - S630 polymers during hot-melt extrusion (for 3D printing by fused deposition modelling)

    There are numerous polymers that have been used commercially to produce pharmaceutical solid dispersions and solutions from hot melt extrusion. Affinisol™ (HPMC) and Plasdone™ S630 (PVP based co-povidone copolymer) have been used in the present work to determine the viable processing space with regards thermal and work input on a twin screw extruder. Processing viability has been determined by monitoring degradation, initially assessed by physical appearance and colour of the extrudates across the full operating range of a twin screw extruder. It has been found that the Affinisol™ had a relatively narrow viable operating window compared with the Plasdone™

    Introduction One of the purposes of the implementation of mutations policy is to seek the rightperson in the right place "the right man on the right place". Will thus be able to improve employeeperformance. Although we have already arranged for the purpose of putting the right people in the rightplace, but it does not mean the problem has been completed. A work that is routine may lead to boredom,so that in these circumstances the possibility of his enthusiasm and excitement down. This can happendespite the fact that the placement in place the right people have been executed. For that reason inmutates we must see to it that a new task is still in line with the duties and previous work. Therefore, thisstudy aimed to determine the effect of policy transfer of civil servants to the improvement of theenvironmental performance of employees in the education department of youth and sports district Talaudislands. Methods The method used is quantitatively using simple linear regesi analysis, and correlationanalysis is simple. And the sample studied were 30 people, in the data collection techniques using SampleRandom Sampling technique, a questionnaire (questionnaire) or a list of questions, and observations.Results The results of the overall analysis shows that the policy of transfer of civil servants have a positiveinfluence on the improvement of the performance of employees in the Ministry of Youth and SportsTalaud Islands. Conclusion As the results of this research as well as theoretical idea then it can be statedthat the policy of transfer of civil servants have a positive influence on employee performanceimprovement

    VEHICLE/ENGINE Integration Issues are explored for orbit transfer vehicles (OTV's). The impact of space basing and aeroassist on VEHICLE/ENGINE integration is discussed. The AOTV structure and thermal protection subsystem weights were scaled as the vehicle length and surface was changed. It is concluded that for increased allowable payload lengths in a ground-based system, lower length-to-diameter (L/D) is as important as higher mixture ration (MR) in the range of mid L/D ATOV's. Scenario validity, geometry constraints, throttle levels, reliability, and servicing are discussed in the context of engine design and engine/vehicle integration

    Quality and Safety of Beef Produced in Central African Sub-Region

    Aim of this research is to provide a general situation of cattle slaughtered in Cameroon, as a representative example for the Central African Sub-region. The quality and safety of beef from the abattoir of Yaoundé, the largest in Cameroon, were considered. From January 2009 to March 2012, the pre-slaughter conditions and characteristics of 1953 cattle carcasses were recorded, as well as the pH of m. longissimus thoracis 24 h after slaughter. From these carcasses, 60 were selected to represent the bulls slaughtered. The quality parameters and composition of m. longissimus thoracis were carried out. The origin of most of the cattle was the Guinea High Savannah (74.6%), and transhumance was the common production system (75.5%). Gudali (45.6%), White Fulani (33.3%) and Red Mbororo (20.3%) breeds were predominant. Carcass weight was affected by rearing system and cattle category, and it markedly varied during year. Considering meat quality, the fat content was low (1.2%) and similar between breeds, moreover Gudali showed the toughest meat. Of the cows slaughtered, 27% were pregnant and the most common abnormal conditions encountered were ectoparasites, fatigue, lameness, fungal-like skin lesions, enlarged lymph nodes, respiratory distress, nodular lesions. More than 20% of the carcasses had some organs condemned, mainly for liver flukes (5.17%), and 1.0% of them were completely condemned due to tuberculosis, that also affected 3.28% of lungs. These data could aid authorities draw up programmes with the aim to strengthen cattle production, improve beef supply, control and prevent the observed diseases, and promote the regional trade

    Characterization of different DLC and DLN electrodes for biosensor design

    International audienceDiamond-Like Carbon and Carbon-Like Nanocomposite electrodes, novel materials in the field of biosensors, made with different ratio of sp3/sp2 carbon hybridization or doped with elements such as Ni, Si and W, were characterized electrochemically by cyclic voltammetry and by amperometric measurements towards hydrogen peroxide. SiCAr1 and SiCNi5% were chosen as sensitive transducers for elaboration of amperometric glucose biosensors. Immobilization of glucose oxidase was carried out by cross-linking with glutareldehyde. Measurements were made at a fixed potential + 1.0 V in 40 mM phosphate buffer pH 7.4. SiCAr1 seems to be more sensitive for glucose (0.6875 µA/mM) then SiCNi5% (0.3654 µA/mM). Detections limits were respectively 20 µM and 30 µM. Michaelis-Menten constants for the two electrodes were found around 3 mM. 48% and 79% of the original response for 0.5 mM glucose remained respectively for both electrodes after 10 days
