    Get PDF
New noncentrosymmetric rare earth borate Rb3NdB6O12 is found in the ternary system Rb2O–Nd2O3–B2O3. The Rb3NdB6O12 powder was fabricated by solid state synthesis at 1050 K for 72 h and the crystal structure was obtained by the Rietveld method. Rb3NdB6O12 crystallized in space group R32 with unit cell parameters a = 13.5236(4), c = 31.162(1) Å, Z = 3. From DSC measurements, the reversible phase transition (I type) in Rb3NdB6O12 is observed at 852–936 K. The 200 μm thick tablet is transparent over the spectral range of 0.3–6.5 μm and the band gap is found as Eg ∼ 6.29 eV. Nonlinear optical response of Rb3NdB6O12 tested via SHG is estimated to be higher than that of K3YB6O12. Blue shift of Nd luminescent lines is found in comparison with other borates. The vibrational parameters of Rb3NdB6O12 are evaluated by experimental methods

The aim of this study was to assess 5-years catamnesis of children from mothers who had A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza during pregnancy. The design of the research: cohort cross-sectional retrospective "case - control" study. The study group included 227 children of mothers who had A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza during pregnancy, and the control group was consisted of 227 children whose mothers didn't have A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza in epidemic period during pregnancy. It was shown that 11,9 % of children born to mothers with influenza infection during pregnancy vs 1,8 % of children of the control group to 5-year age formed a cohort of patients with recurrent respiratory tract infections (p < 0,001). Acute respiratory infections were complicated by pneumonia in 15,4 % of study group children vs 8,8 % of children in the comparison group (p = 0,044). We founded a significant association between maternity A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza during 1st and 2nd trimesters of gestation and increased frequency of asthma in their children

Single crystals of new compound RbFe5_5(MoO4_4)7_7 were successfully grown by the flux method, and their crystal structure was determined using the X-ray single-crystal diffraction technique. The XRD analysis showed that the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/m, with unit cell parameters a = 6.8987(4), b = 21.2912(12) and c = 8.6833(5) Å, β = 102.1896(18)°, V = 1246.66(12) Å3^3, Z (molecule number in the unit cell) = 2, R-factor (reliability factor) = 0.0166, and T = 293(2) K. Raman spectra were collected on the single crystal to show the local symmetry of MoO4_4 tetrahedra, after the confirmation of crystal composition using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The polycrystalline samples were synthesized by a solid-state reaction in the Ar atmosphere; the particle size and thermal stability were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses. The compound decomposes above 1073 K in an Ar atmosphere with the formation of Fe(III) molybdate. The thermal expansion coefficient along the c direction has the value α = −1.3 ppm K1^{−1} over the temperature range of 298–473 K. Magnetic measurements revealed two maxima in the magnetization below 20 K, and paramagnetic behavior above 50 K with the calculated paramagnetic moment of 12.7 μB per formula unit is in good agreement with the presence of 3_3Fe3+^{3+} and 2_2Fe3+^{3+} in the high-spin (HS) state. The electronic structure of RbFe5(MoO4)7 is comparatively evaluated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations

The article presents the monitoring of a severe course of CINCA/NOMID syndrome diagnosed at late stages. The use of monoclonal antibodies to IL 1 — kanakinumabum — in a patient with chronic neurological cutaneous and articular syndrome was successful: fever, cutaneous and pain syndromes were completely stopped, joint contractures decreased after one week of therapy. Laboratory parameters of the child’s disease activity (ESR and CRP) became normal after 8 weeks of treatment. Movements in the affected joints recovered completely after 24 weeks; the audiologist noted an improvement in hearing. The above clinical example demonstrates the high efficiency of kanakinumabum for a patient with chronic neurological cutaneous and articular syndrome, and shows the perspective of therapeutic application of IL 1 blocker for patients with CINCA syndrome including advanced stages of the disease. No adverse effects were noted during kanakinumabum therapy

DNA barcoding: how many earthworm species are there in the south of West Siberia?

Earthworms are a widespread and ecologically important group of animals, which has the highest total biomass in some ecosystems and often defines the composition of soil fauna. Earthworms are known to have high cryptic genetic diversity. In this study we attempted to estimate earthworm species diversity in the south of West Siberia by DNA barcoding. This method employs short fragments of the genome to identify species, and allows one to work with specimens that cannot be identified by conventional techniques, as well as to search for new species and predict their phylogenetic affinities. As the target sequence we took a fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 (cox1) gene. The studied territory (Novosibirsk and Tomsk oblasts, Altai krai, and the Altai Republic) is known to contain 16 species and subspecies of earthworms. We analyzed 259 individuals from twelve locations and detected 27 genetic clusters. Ten of them correspond to known species (A. caliginosa, E. fetida, O. tyrtaeum, D. r. tenuis, D. octaedra, E. balatonica, E. sibirica, as well as three genetic lineages of E. nordenskioldi nordenskioldi). Seventeen of the 27 clusters do not have close sequence similarity to any known earthworm species. Representatives of some of these novel clusters are morphologically similar to the Eisenia n. nordenskioldi/E. n. pallida species complex and may belong to new genetic lineages of this complex. The rest of the novel clusters probably represent new earthworm species. Therefore, we can conclude that a large portion of earthworm biodiversity in the south of West Siberia is still unexplored

Infection of an Individual with Plague in the Gorno-Altaisk High-Mountain Natural Focus in 2014. Communication 2. Peculiarities of Laboratory Diagnostics and Molecular-Genetic Characterization of the Isolated Strains

Laboratory diagnostics of plague was carried out in compliance with valid operational guidelines and regulations. But its peculiarity consisted in the performance of diagnostic investigations secondary to antimicrobial therapy with application of preparations characterized by the expressed activity towards gram-negative microorganisms, including the agent of plague (ceftriaxone, ciprolet, and amikacin). The studies revealed that under antibiotic treatment during the early phase of infection the most effective method for the laboratory plague diagnostics was PCR. Based on the results of the assay it was possible to establish not only provisional, but also the final diagnosis in a patient. Obtained was genetic characteristics of the strains isolated from the patient and the marmot, withdrawn at the patient’s place, using techniques of molecular-genetic analysis, in particular PCR, multilocus VNTR, and multilocus and genome-wide sequencing. Thereupon the strains were attributed to antique biovar of the main subspecies of plague agent. In addition, close relation to Y. pestis of the main subspecies isolated in the same focus in 2012 and to the strains from Mongolian Altai and Tuvinian mountain focus was determined based on phylogenetic analysis of the isolates
