    Studi Interaksi Seng(II) pada Asam Humat Muara Kuang Serta Aplikasinya terhadap Limbah Industri Pelapisan Seng

    Telah diekstraksi asam humat dari tanah gambut asal Muara Kuang dengan menggunakan natrium hidroksida dalam kondisi atmosfir nitrogen. Asam humat yang diperoleh dikarakterisasi dengan spektroskopi infra merah, kadar air dan kadar abu untuk selanjutnya digunakan sebagai material untuk mengikat kation seng(II) dalam medium air dan diterapkan untuk mengikat kation dalam limbah industri pelapisan seng. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa asam humat dari tanah gambut asal Muara Kuang mengandung gugus karboksilat (-COOH) dengan kadar abu sebesar 26,04% (b/b) dan kadar air sebesar 14,16%(b/b). Kation Zn(II) yang terikat pada asam humat hasil isolasi sebanyak 96,79%. Asam humat hasil isolasi dapat mengikat kation Zn(II) dari limbah industri pelapisan seng sebesar 8,814%

    Simulating urban growth in the George town conurbation

    Simulation of land use changes has been discussed at length, with increasing papers proposing new methods to predict urban growth. Simulating urban growth can provide a clearer view of urban expansion which gave huge impact in developing a city. This phenomenon, however, also has driven the encroachment into agricultural and forest land in order to cater urban growth expansion. Therefore, this paper aims to develop an urban growth simulation model using GIS-based CA-Markov approach, incorporated with driving forces of urban growth in the Malaysian context. Land use data based on year 2006, 2010 and 2014 of the study area were prepared in a GIS database and used to develop and validate a CA-Markov Model using Idrisi Kilimanjaro software. The findings indicated new or expanded built-up areas of 2018 are found to be located in close proximity to existing growth centers and settlements.Keywords: CA-Markov; Geograpghic Information Sciences (GIS); Land use changes;Urbanization

    Size growth and age of two congeneric archer fishes (Toxotes jaculatrix pallas, 1767 and Toxotes chatareus Hamilton, 1822) inhabiting Malaysian coastal waters

    The size, growth and age of two congeneric archer fishes Toxotes jaculatrix and Toxotes chatareus collected from Johor coastal waters, Malaysia was studied. The standard length (SL) and body weight (BW) ranges of the two species caught in the study area were 7-12.2 cm SL (9.35±0.19 cm), 11-55 g BW (27.04±1.62 g) and 8-12.2 cm SL (9.88±0.17cm), 15.12-54g BW (30.52±1.72 g), respectively. The ratio of male and female specimens of T. jaculatrix and T. chatareus were 70%, 30% and 68.6%, 31.4%, respectively. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 12.78 cm, 13.59 cm and K = 1.46 year-1, 1.53 year-1 with a growth performance index of Ø’ = 5.48 and 5.64 in both species, respectively. In order to determine the age, the technique of reading and interpretation of the daily growth increments/rings in the sagittae otoliths and scales were applied. Daily growth increments and annulus of scales counts confirmed that the ages of the samples for both species were typically less than one year (<1) and the remnant samples were between one and two years. The similarity between scale and otolith age determination was identical and dissimilarity was observed only in few samples of both species

    Growth of tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) juvenile from wild and hatchery at different type of feeds

    This study aimed to observe the influence of two sources of juvenile tiger grouper Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (Forsskål, 1775) from the sea and the hatchery by several types of food (pellets, tilapia anchovies). Growing Studies were carried out above 9600 juvenile tiger grouper from two sources namely differing from the sea of 4800 juvenile and 4800 juvenile hatchery from hatching. The design of treament were done by 2x3  with four replications. During the 30 day rearing period, each 5 days is taken  sampling total body length (cm) juvenile tiger grouper. The results showed that during the rearing period the value of marine juvenile grouper only high growth in juvenile ate anchovies and tilapia except on day 5 and 30, and could not adapt to the food from the pellet. While in hatchery juvenile tiger grouper had high growth to consume pellets only and could not adapt well to the food of tilapia and except anchovies on day 15th

    Purpose of the study: This paper aimed to assess the analysis of the role of human capital investment (HCI) determinants and its remarkable contribution towards the education institution's performance by adapting the Malcolm Baldridge Criteria for Performance Excellence. Methodology: This research adopted a quantitative study and a survey tool comprises of sixty items with seven Likert scale was utilized as an instrument to assemble data from 309 lecturers in UiTM Kelantan. Next to test the research hypothesis data were then analyzed using the Structural Equation Modelling approach on the SmartPLS3 platform. Main Findings: The analysis demonstrated the influences of HCI determinants towards the UiTM performance. The coefficient of determination (R2) value of 66.9% suggested that the variance of institution performance could moderately be explained by the observed variables, namely knowledge, skill, and training. The result also indicates the highest positive significant value for skill towards performance with β=0.283, t-value= 1.981 and p&lt;0.005. It is proven that a persistent skill development significantly contributes to the performance. Applications of this study: The research finding is useful to help the Ministry of Higher Education (MOE) in Malaysia to identify the relevant determinants in improving human capital quality. Novelty/Originality of this study: There were a lot of studies that were conducted involving higher education in Malaysia. But the only limited number of studies was conducted by scholars in assessing the main contribution of human capital investment factors towards the institution's success

    Literature instructions in secondary schools: a case study

    Literature component has been made clear by the Ministry of Education (2012) in Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 to promote active learning and enhance learning. However, some studies show that learners might not be interested in literature lessons in schools for many different reasons. Their reactions and responses during the literature lessons show their lack of interest. This research was undertaken to investigate learners’ reactions during literature lessons. This qualitative case study was carried out on two mixed ability classes, consisting of 53 high school learners from two schools in Johor Bahru district and four English teachers. Lessons were observed and videotaped, and the participant-teachers were interviewed and audiotaped to seek responses on their learners’ reactions and responses during lessons. This research provides new insights on how learners perceive literature lessons in schools which promotes language learning

    Diet composition of cobia fish, Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus, 1766) from northeastern waters of Peninsular Malaysia

    A study was conducted to investigate the food and feeding habits of cobia, Rachycentron canadum from the northeastern waters of Peninsular Malaysia. Stomach content of 82 R. canadum fish were analyzed with reference to gender and size classes. Fish was the most dominant diet component for R. canadum with % IRI value of 95.3%, followed by squid (3.1%), crab (1.5%), and shrimp (0.07%). Fish was also predominant regardless of gender and size classes of the R. canadum in the study area. Shrimp was not taken by the male, but found in females with sizes ranged between 80 and 120 cm TL. Rachycentron canadum that was larger than 120 cm TL also did not prefer crab as part of its diet component. Their feeding intensity increased with size accordingly that was indicated by the increase in the percentage of active feeder. This research finding will contribute to the development of R. canadum culture in Malaysia

    Performance Evaluation of Dynamic Absorbers Based on Randy Fox and Dunkerley Methods / Syafirah A. Samat ...[et al.]

    Dynamic Absorber (DA) application is the method used to avoid resonance in a vibrating system. In practice, many types of DA are utilized such as active and passive DA and it depends on the cost and environmental conditions. Designers/ engineers select DA parameters and model the absorber before it is implemented and tested to the main system. Hence, it will be beneficial to have tools or templates for fast and effective selection of DA. This paper will discuss the selection parameters of a passive DA based on templates derived from Dunkerley Method (DM) and Randy Fox Method (RFM) and its accuracy is verified experimentally. It is observed that in this case, DA has reduced the vibration amplitude significantly. Furthermore, the results show the RFM absorber has performed better than the DM absorber. This study enables verification of the effectiveness of DA to tackle resonant problems. In the future, these GUI templates could be helpful for industrial application with vibrating problems
