    Improving Self Empowerment and Quality of Life of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with DEE Based on Health Promotion Model

    Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires individual ability of patients to adhere treatment of the disease recommended by doctors. Patient should be able to manage the diabetes to prevent complications by maximizing existing aspects within themselves to determine the best option available. The purpose the study was to analyze the effect of diabetes empowerment education to self empowerment and quality of life of patients with type 2 DM at the Puskesmas Bendo Kediri. Method: This study used quasy experiment design with non randomized control group pretest posttest design. Total sampel was 32 respondents divided into control group and experiment group, sample recruited by purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaire with DES (Diabetes Empowerment Scale) and DQoL (Diabetes Quality of Life). Data were then analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign rank test and Mann Whitney with level of significance of 0,05. Result: The results showed that there was a differences in self empowerment and quality of life of patients with type 2 DM after intervention. Mann Whitney analysis result`s showed that there are differences in self empowerment between control and experiment groups (p = 0,029) and there was a difference in the quality of life between control and experiment groups (p = 0,022). It can be referred from it that DEE influences self empowerment and quality of life of type 2 DM patients. Discussion: It can be concluded that diabetes empowerment education increasing selfempowerment and quality of life of patients with DM type 2. Further studies should using more objective parameters such as changes in blood sugar levels, hemoglobin A1C values to evaluate the effect of diabetes empowerment education on self-empowerment and quality of life of patients with DM

    Detection of Pork Contamination in Fresh and Cooked Beef Using Genetic Marker Mitochondrial-dna Cytochrome B by Duplex-pcr

    By mixing with pork, beef adulteration is frequently found in the traditional market that very disturbing Moeslem community in Indonesia. This study was conducted to detect pork contamination in fresh and cooked beef using genetic marker mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b (mt-DNA Cyt b) by duplex-PCR. A total of twelve samples was used in this study consisting six fresh meat samples and six cooked meat samples, respectively. Those beef and pork were bought from animal slaughterhouse and a supermarket in Surakarta. Cooked samples were prepared by boiling the meats in hot water at 100oC for 30 minutes. We designed pork contamination in beef in the level of 0, 1, 5, 10, 25%, respectively. The DNA genome was extracted and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed using species specific primer to isolate mt-DNA Cyt b gene from the samples. The results showed that the DNA genome was successfully extracted from pork, beef, and contaminated meat samples. In addition, visualization of duplex-PCR on 1.5% agarose gel was able to detect pork contamination in both fresh and cooked beef up to very small proportion (1%). The existence of pork in beef was indicated with the presence of specific 398 bp DNA band. It can be concluded, duplex-PCR of mt-DNA Cyt b gene was very sensitive in detection of pork contamination in fresh and cooked beef

    Effect of Supplementation Purslane (Portulaca Oleracea) as a Source of Alpha-Linolenic Acid on Production Performance and Physical Quality of Egg of Laying Hens

    The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of inclusion plant source of n 3 fat in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, 18:3n-3) on the diets of layers on production performance and physical quality of eggs. A total of 125 Hy-Line Brown hens (38 weeks old) were placed at individual cages and assigned to five dietary treatments. The dietary treatments were supplemented with 0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0% purslane meal. Laying hens were fed for five weeks following a seven day adaptation period. Water and feed were provided ad libitum. Feed intake (FI) measured weekly and feed consumption ratio (FCR) was calculated at the end of the trial. A total of 25 egg yolk samples of day 35 (n = 5 egg yolks for each treatment) were collected to analyse physical quality of eggs. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Differences between treatment means were further analyzed using Duncan\u27s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that the incorporation of plants rich in ALA did not modify FI, FCR, and egg production. Supplementation of purslane meal in the diets had no effect on physical quality of eggs, including egg weight, yolk weight, albumen index, yolk index and Haugh Unit (HU). The average of egg weight and yolk weight were 60,5 and 15.3 g, respectively. Diet containing purslane meal increased yolk colour. In conclusion, laying hens that fed diet supplemented with purslane meal rich in ALA improved yolk colour and did not change the production performance of the laying hens or the qualities of the eggs

    Communication Pattern Of Mixed Marriage (A Qualitative Study on the Mixed Marriage Parents Educating Their Children)

    The process of communication that takes place in families with different citizenship is not just about the process of delivering opinions among family members, but also covering how this communication pattern occurs, in this case related to parenting. Family members who are not the same way of viewing and nurturing culture, indirect parenting patterns will also different from families with a single cultural background. Therefore it is necessary once the existence of intensive communication so that will be found appropriate care for children. This research uses qualitative descriptive method that uses informants to obtain the required data source in accordance with the object under study. The informant in this study were families whose parents are couples of mixed marriages, which already has a teenage children. Researcher determined the respondent family was a mixture of Indonesia-Malaysia, Indonesia-America, Indonesia-Japan and Indonesia-Korea. After obtaining informants, researchers used interviews and observations as data collection techniques. Data analysis used by the researcher in this research was interactive model, by interaction between data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data verification. Results showed that the patterns of communication that occurs in families of mixed marriages, especially in conducting parenting was never separated from the culture of different parents. The pattern of communication between husband and wife in mixed marriages tend to be permissive, which gave freedom of either the child or partner to develop the ability and willingness without any restriction. But children spent more time with mothers, then the pattern of mother care was more dominant than the father, with the consideration and agreement of fathers who came from other countries

    Local wisdom to Gunung Sari Forest is important component in the forest management, because society still utilize the forest potency for daily activity. This research aims to find out local wisdom that consists of value, norm, ethics, faith, customs, customary law and specific behavior, also the characteristic of society is age, education, ethnics, occupation and gender, in the management of Gunung Sari Forest, Singkawang. The Method that is used is survey through interview. Data collection is collected by purposively sampling. Data accumulation that has been taken is 86 respondents as hous holder that has been living for more than 5 years with minimum age limit 17 years old and married. Respondents that have been collected from three RT in Pasiran Village consist of RT 30, RT 31, RT 59. Data analysis is analyzed with descriptive qualitative and triangulation technic. The result of this research is the importance role of local wisdom which is a component that related in the effort of management in customs and community culture that have been inherited to generations, in managing the Gunung Sari forest at Pasiran Village, Singkawang Barat District, Singkawang City, as area that needs to be preserved and developed, so that the forest potency could give a good impact and positive contributions. Moreover the characteristic background of the community consists of vary ages, education, occupations, and genders can give its own unqieness in a local wisdom to social lifes.     Perkembangan Implementasi Pasar Karbon Hutan di Indonesia

    Pasar karbon REDD+ dapat menjadi insentif bagi pelaku implementasi REDD+ di lapangan. Permasalahan yang dihadapi adalah ketidakpastian pasar yang tinggi yang diakibatkan oleh belum tersedianya mekanisme transaksi karbon. Komitmen pemerintah daerah baik propinsi maupun kabupaten relatif tinggi yang ditunjukan dengan disusunnya peraturan pendukung implementasi REDD+. Kegiatan REDD+ adalah dalam rangka menjaga hutan lestari dan seandainya terjadi perdagangan karbon maka hasil perdagangan merupakan manfaat tambahan.Stakeholder terutama pemda belum mengetahui secara pasti tentang tata cara atau mekanisme pasar karbon, termasuk standar karbon dan metodologi untuk mengha­sil­kan kredit karbon. Insentif yang diharapkan atas capai­an penurunan emisi yang dihasilkan lebih didasarkan pada perannya dalam pengelolaan hutan lestari/peningkatan kese­jah­teraan masyarakat bukan berdasarkan harga karbon. Terkait dengan pemenuhan target penurunan emisi 26% masih perlu kajian lebih jauh tentang proporsi yang dapat diklaim oleh pembeli. Besarnya proporsi perlu mempertimbangkan pangsa modal investasi antara pembeli dan pemerintah yang dikeluarkan, lain halnya jika pembiayaan awal ditanggung oleh pemerintah. Juga diperlukan lembaga registri yang mengelola kegiatan, capaian penurunan emisi, dan fasilitasi implementasi REDD+ di lapangan.Selain itu lembaga ini mengatur sistem insentif dan disinsentif dalam pengelolaan resiko kebocoran dan ketidakpermanenan

    Evaluasi Kualitas Organoleptik Mayonnaise Berbahan Dasar Kuning Telur yang Mendapatkan Suplementasi Tepung Purslane (Portulaca oleracea)

    The aim of this research was to evaluate sensory quality of mayonnaise made with egg yolks produced from laying hens fed diets supplemented with purslane meal. The experimental design was a one way classification with five mayonnaise treatments. The treatments included mayonnaise with egg yolks supplemented with 0% (P0), 2% (P1), 4% (P2), 6% (P3), and 8% (P4) purslane meal. This study used 30 semi-trained panelists to evaluate sensory quality of mayonnaise using a 9-point hedonic scale. Data was analysed using the analysis of variance and if there was any significant difference among treatments, then the analysis was continued using Tukey’s test. The results showed that the use of egg yolks from laying hens fed diets supplemented with purslane meal up to a level of 8% did not significantly change color, texture, creamy, aroma, taste, taste and overall acceptance of mayonnaise. The average score of perception of sensory attributes was between 5 (neither like nor dislike) and 6 (slightly like). It can be concluded that mayonnaise made with egg yolks produced from brown laying hens fed diets supplemented with purslane meal up to a level of 8% did not negatively affect the sensory quality of mayonnaise

    Iron Behaving Badly: Inappropriate Iron Chelation as a Major Contributor to the Aetiology of Vascular and Other Progressive Inflammatory and Degenerative Diseases

    The production of peroxide and superoxide is an inevitable consequence of aerobic metabolism, and while these particular "reactive oxygen species" (ROSs) can exhibit a number of biological effects, they are not of themselves excessively reactive and thus they are not especially damaging at physiological concentrations. However, their reactions with poorly liganded iron species can lead to the catalytic production of the very reactive and dangerous hydroxyl radical, which is exceptionally damaging, and a major cause of chronic inflammation. We review the considerable and wide-ranging evidence for the involvement of this combination of (su)peroxide and poorly liganded iron in a large number of physiological and indeed pathological processes and inflammatory disorders, especially those involving the progressive degradation of cellular and organismal performance. These diseases share a great many similarities and thus might be considered to have a common cause (i.e. iron-catalysed free radical and especially hydroxyl radical generation). The studies reviewed include those focused on a series of cardiovascular, metabolic and neurological diseases, where iron can be found at the sites of plaques and lesions, as well as studies showing the significance of iron to aging and longevity. The effective chelation of iron by natural or synthetic ligands is thus of major physiological (and potentially therapeutic) importance. As systems properties, we need to recognise that physiological observables have multiple molecular causes, and studying them in isolation leads to inconsistent patterns of apparent causality when it is the simultaneous combination of multiple factors that is responsible.
