    This paper discusses the review of Islamic law regarding the contract of renting a tractor to plow the fields in Klesem Village, Kebon Agung Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency. The aim is to find out whether the practice is in accordance with Islamic law or not. In general, the wage contract in Klesem Village can be classified into the ijarah contract in Islamic law. The main principle in the ijarah contract is mutual benefit and prohibited from judging. Determination of wages must be clear which includes the amount of wages and the procedure for payment. This study finds out that, plow machine service providers often do not keep the time and ask for additional from the wages previously promised. Determination of wage changes and cancellation or termination of contracts unilaterally is certainly detrimental to the farmers. Thus, although in general the practice of renting tractors in the village of Klesem is legal according to Islamic law, there are still practices violating the principles of Islamic law

    Application of multi-group cfa in analysing moderation effect of socioeconomic attributes on public housing performance

    This study analysed moderation effect of socioeconomic attributes of income and education on public housing performance model using the multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) method. The objectives of the study was to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic attributes of income and education on public housing performance using occupants’ experience, with a view to proffer recommendations on objective indicator of public housing performance. Literature revealed how little attention is given to effects of socioeconomic attributes on building performance in post occupancy evaluation (POE). This leads to misuse of resources in facilities management. Sample households of 350 were selected in Gombe metropolis, Nigeria, by systematic random sampling to answer questionnaires as the major instrument of data collection. SPSS Version 22 was used for preliminary analyses and AMOS version 21 was used to validate the constructs and develop Structural Equation Model (SEM) of building performance. Results indicated an acceptable SEM model for use in building performance evaluation, with all factor loadings above 0.5 and required fitness indexes achieved. Moderation effect of occupants’ education and income were proved not significant on their experience responses. The finding portrayed occupants’ experience as objective tool for measuring building performance Implication of this finding is in supporting the notion that experience is objective medium of measuring performance than satisfaction. Hence, scholars and professionals in housing should be cautious of the use of these terminologies interchangeably

    NAF-1 and mitoNEET are central to human breast cancer proliferation by maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis and promoting tumor growth

    Mitochondria are emerging as important players in the transformation process of cells, maintaining the biosynthetic and energetic capacities of cancer cells and serving as one of the primary sites of apoptosis and autophagy regulation. Although several avenues of cancer therapy have focused on mitochondria, progress in developing mitochondria-targeting anticancer drugs nonetheless has been slow, owing to the limited number of known mitochondrial target proteins that link metabolism with autophagy or cell death. Recent studies have demonstrated that two members of the newly discovered family of NEET proteins, NAF-1 (CISD2) and mitoNEET (mNT; CISD1), could play such a role in cancer cells. NAF-1 was shown to be a key player in regulating autophagy, and mNT was proposed to mediate iron and reactive oxygen homeostasis in mitochondria. Here we show that the protein levels of NAF-1 and mNT are elevated in human epithelial breast cancer cells, and that suppressing the level of these proteins using shRNA results in significantly reduced cell proliferation and tumor growth, decreased mitochondrial performance, uncontrolled accumulation of iron and reactive oxygen in mitochondria, and activation of autophagy. Our findings highlight NEET proteins as promising mitochondrial targets for cancer therapy

    SNP Array Karyotyping Allows for the Detection of Uniparental Disomy and Cryptic Chromosomal Abnormalities in MDS/MPD-U and MPD

    We applied single nucleotide polymorphism arrays (SNP-A) to study karyotypic abnormalities in patients with atypical myeloproliferative syndromes (MPD), including myeloproliferative/myelodysplastic syndrome overlap both positive and negative for the JAK2 V617F mutation and secondary acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In typical MPD cases (N = 8), which served as a control group, those with a homozygous V617F mutation showed clear uniparental disomy (UPD) of 9p using SNP-A. Consistent with possible genomic instability, in 19/30 MDS/MPD-U patients, we found additional lesions not identified by metaphase cytogenetics. In addition to UPD9p, we also have detected UPD affecting other chromosomes, including 1 (2/30), 11 (4/30), 12 (1/30) and 22 (1/30). Transformation to AML was observed in 8/30 patients. In 5 V617F+ patients who progressed to AML, we show that SNP-A can allow for the detection of two modes of transformation: leukemic blasts evolving from either a wild-type jak2 precursor carrying other acquired chromosomal defects, or from a V617F+ mutant progenitor characterized by UPD9p. SNP-A-based detection of cryptic lesions in MDS/MPD-U may help explain the clinical heterogeneity of this disorder
