    Integrated Lax Formalism for PCM

    By solving the first-order algebraic field equations which arise in the dual formulation of the D=2 principal chiral model (PCM) we construct an integrated Lax formalism built explicitly on the dual fields of the model rather than the currents. The Lagrangian of the dual scalar field theory is also constructed. Furthermore we present the first-order PDE system for an exponential parametrization of the solutions and discuss the Frobenious integrability of this system.Comment: 24 page

    Aceite de semilla de cardo mariano prensado en frío: propiedades físico-químicas, composición y análisis sensorial

    Cold pressed oil was produced from milk thistle seeds, and its composition and sensorial properties were determined. The seeds were found to contain 14.98% oil, 17.31% protein and 4.14% ash. The peroxide value of the oil (11.39 meqO2/kg oil) was within acceptable limits according to codex, but the free fatty acidity value (3.45%) exceeded the limit. The oil melted at -20.18 °C and crystallized at -3.71 °C. Linoleic acid (51.97%), β-sitosterol (67.56 mg/100 g oil) and γ-tocopherol (53.60 mg/kg oil) were determined as the main components, respectively. Six sensory descriptive terms (sweet, spicy, raw vegetable, straw, roasted and throat-catching) were described for the oil. Consumer tests proved that cold-pressed milk thistle seed oil had intermediate acceptance scores and consumer satisfaction was moderate. In conclusion, it is thought that milk thistle seeds could be used for the production of edible gourmet oil. Further studies regarding the composition of the bio-active molecules in the oil are anticipated.Se obtuvo aceite prensado en frío a partir de semillas de cardo mariano y se determinó su composición y propiedades sensoriales. Se encontró que las semillas contenían 14,98% de aceite, 17,31% de proteína y 4,14% de ceniza. El índice de peróxido del aceite (11,39 meqO2/kg de aceite) se encontraba dentro del límite aceptable según el Codex, pero el índice de acidez libre (3,45 %) excedía el límite. El aceite fundió a -20,18°C y cristalizó a -3,71°C. Se determinaron como componentes principales el ácido linoleico (51,97%), β-sitosterol (67,56 mg/100 g de aceite) y γ-tocoferol (53,60 mg/kg de aceite), respectivamente. Se describieron en el aceite seis términos descriptivos sensoriales: dulce, picante, vegetal crudo, pajizo, asado y pegajoso. Las pruebas de consumo demostraron que el aceite de semilla de cardo mariano prensado en frío tenía puntuaciones de aceptación intermedias y la satisfacción del consumidor era moderada. En conclusión, se cree que las semillas de cardo mariano podrían utilizarse para la producción de aceite gourmet comestible. Se requieren más estudios sobre la composición de moléculas bioactivas del aceite

    Effect of micronized zeolite addition to lamb concentrate feeds on growth performance and some blood chemistry and metabolites

    This study was conducted to determine the effects of the addition of micronized zeolite (MZ) on the fattening performance, blood parameters, faecal ash and nitrogen levels of lambs fed concentrate feeds intensively. For two months 25 four-month-old Merino x Ile de France crossbred male lambs (21.1 ± 1.32 kg live weight) were fed 100 g alfalfa hay and a mixed concentrate diet containing 0%, 1%, 2% or 3% additional MZ. At the end of the study, bodyweight gain and feed consumption were not affected by the treatments. Similarly, the addition of up to 2% MZ to the diet did not affect slaughter weight, hot carcass or cold carcass weights, but they decreased at 3% MZ inclusion. No differences were observed between the groups in terms of blood urea nitrogen, plasma glucose, serum creatinine, triglyceride, sodium, potassium and chlorine concentration. However, serum total protein, calcium and phosphorus concentrations were affected by MZ supplementation. The addition of MZ to the ration did not affect the faecal dry matter content and total nitrogen level, yet it increased the ash content of the faeces. Consequently, it was demonstrated that the addition of up to 2% MZ to lamb grower feed does not have a negative impact on performance and carcass yield of the animals, but affects serum total protein, calcium and phosphorus concentrations

    A Jupiter-mass planet around the K0 giant HD 208897

    For over 10 years, we have carried out a precise radial velocity (RV) survey to find substellar companions around evolved G,K-type stars to extend our knowledge of planet formation and evolution. We performed high precision RV measurements for the giant star HD 208897 using an iodine (I2) absorption cell. The measurements were made at T\"UB\.ITAK National Observatory (TUG, RTT150) and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). For the origin of the periodic variation seen in the RV data of the star, we adopted a Keplerian motion caused by an unseen companion. We found that the star hosts a planet with a minimum mass of m2sini=1.40MJ, which is relatively low compared to those of known planets orbiting evolved intermediate-mass stars. The planet is in a nearly circular orbit with a period of P=353 days at about 1 AU distance from the host star. The star is metal rich and located at the early phase of ascent along the red giant branch. The photometric observations of the star at Ankara University Kreiken Observatory (AUKR) and the HIPPARCOS photometry show no sign of variation with periods associated with the RV variation. Neither bisector velocity analysis nor analysis of the Ca II and Halpha lines shows any correlation with the RV measurements

    Pathways of bond topology transitions at the interface of silicon nanocrystals and amorphous silica matrix

    The interface chemistry of silicon nanocrystals (NCs) embedded in amorphous oxide matrix is studied through molecular dynamics simulations with the chemical environment described by the reactive force field model. Our results indicate that the Si NC-oxide interface is more involved than the previously proposed schemes which were based on solely simple bridge or double bonds. We identify different types of three-coordinated oxygen complexes, previously not noted. The abundance and the charge distribution of each oxygen complex is determined as a function of the NC size as well as the transitions among them. The oxidation at the surface of NC induces tensile strain to Si-Si bonds which become significant only around the interface, while the inner core remains unstrained. Unlike many earlier reports on the interface structure, we do not observe any double bonds. Furthermore, our simulations and analysis reveal that the interface bond topology evolves among different oxygen bridges through these three-coordinated oxygen complexes.Comment: 5 pages 6 figures 1 tabl

    Purificación de aceite de girasol crudo desgomado mediante estructuras metal-orgánicas seleccionadas como adsorbentes

    The aims of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of seven metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as adsorbents for the purification of crude degummed sunflower oil, and to compare their effectiveness with three natural clays. The oil was treated with two different addition levels (0.05% and 0.3%, w/w), and two different treatment times (0.5 h and 3.0 h) under constant temperature (25 °C). The results indicated that all adsorbent treatments improved the oil’s physico-chemical properties. Most importantly, the oil’s free fatty acid, peroxide and p-anisidine values were significantly reduced by Ti-MOF and γ-CD-MOF in comparison with the control sample. The oil showed no contamination by the metals during the MOF treatments. There were no significant changes in the fatty acid or sterol composition of the treated oil, while α-tocopherol contents decreased to some extent. This study proved the possibility of MOF as adsorbents for crude oil purification, and showed the great potential of Ti-MOF and γ-CD-MOF as promising adsorbents.Los objetivos de este estudio fueron investigar la efectividad de siete estructuras metal-orgánicas (MOFs) como adsorbentes para la purificación de aceite de girasol crudo desgomado y comparar su efectividad con tres arcillas naturales. El aceite fué tratado adicionando dos cantidades diferentes (0,05% y 0,3%, p/p) y dos tiempos de de tratamiento (0,5 h y 3,0 h) a temperatura constante (25 °C). Los resultados indicaron que todos los tratamientos con adsorbentes mejoraron las propiedades físico-químicas del aceite. Más importante aún, los valores de acidez libre, peróxidos y p-anisidina se redujeron significativamente con Ti-MOF y γ-CD-MOF en comparación con la muestra de control. Los aceites mostraron no haberse contaminado con los metales durante los tratamientos de MOFs. No hubo cambios significativos en las composiciones de ácidos grasos y esteroles de los aceites tratados, mientras que los contenidos de α-tocoferol disminuyeron a cierto nivel. En consecuencia, este estudio demostró la posibilidad de que los MOFs sean adsorbentes para la purificación de aceites crudos, y demostró el gran potencial de Ti-MOF y γ-CD-MOF como adsorbentes

    Underdetermined instantaneous audio source separation via local Gaussian modeling

    International audienceUnderdetermined source separation is often carried out by modeling time-frequency source coefficients via a fixed sparse prior. This approach fails when the number of active sources in one time-frequency bin is larger than the number of channels or when active sources lie on both sides of an inactive source. In this article, we partially address these issues by modeling time-frequency source coefficients via Gaussian priors with free variances. We study the resulting maximum likelihood criterion and derive a fast non-iterative optimization algorithm that finds the global minimum. We show that this algorithm outperforms state-of-the- art approaches over stereo instantaneous speech mixtures

    The association of changes in body mass index and metabolic parameters between adults with overweight or obesity and their children in a family-based randomized trial (DiOGenes)

    Background: Family-based approaches have been reported to be effective in improving overweight or obesity in children. Objectives: To investigate the relationship of changes in body mass index and metabolic parameters between adults with overweight or obesity and their children during a weight-maintenance family-based dietary intervention. Methods: In a multicentre randomized controlled trial, families with at least one parent with overweight or obesity and one healthy child aged between 5 and 18 years, of which the parents completed an 8-week weight-loss phase successfully, were randomized into five different dietary intervention groups to achieve weight maintenance for 6 months. Anthropometric parameters and body composition were measured and blood samples were collected before and after the dietary intervention. Data were analysed using Pearson correlation coefficient analyses and multiple linear regression analysis adjusted for diet group, centre, child's sex and age. Results: A positive association was found between the change in body mass index (BMI) of the mother and change in BMI-for-age Z-score of first and second child (std (Formula presented.) = 0.248, p = 0.000; std (Formula presented.) = 0.326, p = 0.000, respectively). The change in BMI of the father was only significantly associated with the change in BMI-for-age Z-score of first child (std (Formula presented.) = 0.186, p = 0.031). No consistent pattern of associations between parents and children was found for homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, fasting glucose and fasting insulin. Conclusion: This study supports the inclusion of parents into family-based dietary approaches for weight management of their children regardless of the child's weight status in eight different countries throughout Europe. © 2021 The Authors.
