Parity Effects in Eigenvalue Correlators, Parametric and Crossover Correlators in Random Matrix Models: Application to Mesoscopic systems

This paper summarizes some work I've been doing on eigenvalue correlators of Random Matrix Models which show some interesting behaviour. First we consider matrix models with gaps in there spectrum or density of eigenvalues. The density-density correlators of these models depend on whether N, where N is the size of the matrix, takes even or odd values. The fact that this dependence persists in the large N thermodynamic limit is an unusual property and may have consequences in the study of one electron effects in mesoscopic systems. Secondly, we study the parametric and cross correlators of the Harish Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber matrix model. The analytic expressions determine how the correlators change as a parameter (e.g. the strength of a perturbation in the hamiltonian of the chaotic system or external magnetic field on a sample of material) is varied. The results are relevant for the conductance fluctuations in disordered mesoscopic systems.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, 2 Figure

Persistent currents in coupled mesoscopic rings

    Get PDF
We have analysed the nature of persistent currents in open coupled mesoscopic rings. Our system is comprised of two ideal loops connected to an electron reservoir. We have obtained analytical expressions for the persistent current densities in two rings in the presence of a magnetic field. We show that the known even-odd parity effects in isolated single loops have to be generalised for the case of coupled rings. We also show that when the two rings have unequal circumferences, it is possible to observe opposite currents (diamagnetic or paramagnetic) in the two rings for a given Fermi level.Comment: Submitted to PRB. 9 figures availabel on reques

Field Consolidation of a Moderately Organic Hetrogeneous Deposit

    Get PDF
Very little technical information is available in literature about the compressibility characteristics of peat and organic soils. The problem of estimating consolidation settlements is even more complex for moderately organic hetrogeneous soils, such as mixtures of organic and inorganic soils. Two known factors affecting compressibility characteristics of organic soils are: natural moisture content and consolidation pressure. From several sites, natural moisture content and compressibility data was collected for organic soils. The data is presented graphically for low and moderate consolidation pressures. On the basis of the above mentioned data, coefficient of compression index for a moderately organic deposit was estimated. At this site, field consolidation was accomplished by surcharge loading method. Presented are the estimated and observed values of consolidation settlements. For the case history studied, approximately 50 percent of settlement occurred during the first few days

Improving Performance of Cross-Domain Firewalls in Multi-Firewall System

    Get PDF
Firewall is used to protect local network from outside untrusted public network or Internet. Every packet coming to and going out from network is inspected at Firewall. Local network policies are converted into rules and stored in firewall. It is used to restrict access of the external network into local network and vice versa. Packets are checked against the rules serially. Therefore increase in the number of rules decreases the firewall performance. The key thing in performance improvement is to reduce number of firewall rules. Optimization helps to reduce number of rules by removing anomalies and redundancies in the rule list. It is observed that only reducing number of rules is not sufficient as the major time is consumed in rule verification. Therefore to reduce time of rule checking fast verification method is used. Prior work focuses on either Intrafirewall optimization or Interfirewall optimization within single administrative domain. In cross-domain firewall optimization key thing is to keep rules secure from others as they contain confidential information which can be exploited by attackers. The proposed system implements cross-domain firewall rule optimization. For optimization multi-firewall environment is considered. Then optimized rule set is converted to Binary Tree Firewall (BTF) so as to reduce packet checking time and improve firewall performance further. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.16047

Persistent Currents in the Presence of a Transport Current

    Get PDF
We have considered a system of a metallic ring coupled to two electron reservoirs. We show that in the presence of a transport current, the persistent current can flow in a ring, even in the absence of magnetic field. This is purely a quantum effect and is related to the current magnification in the loop. These persistent currents can be observed if one tunes the Fermi energy near the antiresonances of the total transmission coefficient or the two port conductance.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev. B. Hysteresis in mesoscopic superconducting disks: the Bean-Livingston barrier

The magnetization behavior of mesoscopic superconducting disks can show hysteretic behavior which we explain by using the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory and properly taking into account the de-magnetization effects due to geometrical form factors. In large disks the Bean-Livingston surface barrier is responsible for the hysteresis. While in small disks a volume barrier is responsible for this hysteresis. It is shown that although the sample magnetization is diamagnetic (negative), the measured magnetization can be positive at certain fields as observed experimentally, which is a consequence of the de-magnetization effects and the experimental set up.Comment: Latex file, 4 ps file

Minimum System Design of Android Based PSTN Phone

PSTN phone is static. However, with the development of Android based device, wireless computer network and minimum system, it is possible to make a PSTN phone mobile. To add the mobility behavior in PSTN phone, a research to develop Android based PSTN phone is needed. Android based device will act as a remote control for the PSTN phone and can be used to make and accept a call from distance. This paper elaborates the Android based PSTN phone design. To test the system performance, two parts of testing are performed. First is testing the Android based PSTN phone remote control system and second is testing the digital voice streaming system between Android device and minimum system using UDP protocol over wireless computer network. PSTN phone remote control system is tested for its functionality while digital voice streaming system is tested for its quality by giving a sinusoidal signal to the system and comparing the input signal with output signal using oscilloscope.According to the test, Android based PSTN phone prototype is able to make a connection and disconnection of Android device (as client) with microcontroller (as server), make a connection with auto server discovery system, make a call, receive a call, and use redial and hold functions with 100% success rate in certain condition. However, it is shown that the quality of voice sent from Android phone to Arduino module is poor due to the limited size of buffer in Arduino, but on the other way around the quality of voice sent from Arduino to Android phone is good

Impact of homestead farming system on rural economy: A study in South 24 Pargana district of West Bengal

    Get PDF
Development of homestead farming system (HFS) has the potential for poverty alleviation in states like West Bengal since irrespective of the land holding size, most of the households in the coastal region of West Bengal, have a small piece of land adjacent to their dwelling where some kind of homestead farming is carried out using the indigenous knowledge. HFS is mainly a need-oriented, self- provisioning, integrated, multi-species, economically sustainable and environmentally safe farming system around the house where the soil is enriched by homemade biological formulations and integrated farming is undertaken. This system allows year round cultivation of different agricultural products (horticulture, aquaculture, timber, etc.)which can provide either a source of additional income to the households or function as an alternative livelihood especailly for the women members of the household. In order to understand the contribution of HFS to household income and to devise ways to maximise returns from HFS, a survey was conducted covering 480 households in three blocks (Kakdwip, Namkhana and Sagar) of South 24 parganas district of West Bengal
