    The objective of this paper is to predict the ultimate failure load and also is to characterize the failure modes in GFRP composite coupons using Multi linear regression. IBM SSPS20 version is used to predict the ultimate failure load using Multi linear regression with failure loads as dependent variable and the load range of 10kg each and its corresponding hits as independent variable. The three point bending test was conducted on the GFRP composite coupons till failure of the GFRP composite coupons. Based on the effect of various failure modes the ultimate failures of the specimen were also predicted by means of multi linear regression method.├В┬а├В

    Commercial fishing along the Indian coast is a dynamic and complex process with several types of crafts, gears exploiting more than 500 species of fishes and shell fishes. Further, changing fishing patterns, practice of innovative fishing methods, improvisation of existing fishing methods, etc. further add to the already complex nature of fishing. Estimation of catch landed along the coast is thus a mammoth task. Systematic, regular and unbiased sampling is an integral vital aspect of fishery biology work. Biological process like growth, maturation, feeding patterns, etc. follows regular patterns. Long term studies are generally carried on subsamples collected from the landing centres to get information on the different aspects of the life cycle of the fish. These results are then extrapolated t get a clear picture of the fish population in the commercially fished area. To obtain, a subsample one has to initially estimate the total catch available.     In this paper, Physical Layer Network coding (PLNC)-Spatially Modulated Full-Duplex (SMFD) nodes based two-way/bidirectional cooperative wireless relay network is proposed. The PLNC-SMFD-based system is a viable technology in the field of next-generation wireless networks to enhance spectral efficiency. In the proposed system model, both the source nodes and relay nodes are employed with 2 ├Ч 2 antenna configurations where 2 bits of information are exchanged between the source nodes through a relay node. Transmit antenna selection at the source nodes is based on the incoming bitstreams. For instance, the transmit antenna is selected at PLNC-SMFD nodes based on the data symbols of the Most Significant Bit (MSB). Whereas the selected transmit antenna sends the Least Significant Bit (LSB) bit of data symbol at any time instance. Further, the self-interference at the transmitting and receiving nodes is modeled as Gaussian with the thermal noise power as a variance. The Bit Error Rate (BER) analytical expressions for both the upper and lower bound are derived in a Rayleigh Fading channel background.     Several environmental contaminants including toxic trace metals are being discharged into the coastal environment causing serious threat to marine organisms and posing public health risk. Marine bivalves (mussel, oyster, and clam) have been successfully used as sentinel organisms for monitoring contaminant levels, including trace metals, in coastal waters around the globe. Chemical analyses measure the contaminants present in the biota but do not necessarily reveal potential biological effects. Therefore, the need to detect and assess the effects of contaminants, especially at low concentrations, has led to the development of molecular markers of contaminant effects called biomarkers. Owing to their short time of response, biomarkers in marine bivalves are used as early warning signals of biological effects caused by environmental pollutants. Research into the development and application of accurate biomarker-based monitoring tools for the environmental contaminants has been intensified in several developed countries

    Observations on the landing of Odonus niger at Mangalore

    The redtoothed triggerfish (Odonus niger) of the family Balistidae is a reef associated species landed by trawl nets operated along the Karnataka coast. This species forms dense aggregations in inshore waters and were not targeted till recently due to their poor market demand. The triggerfish shoals are intentionally avoided by the trawlers and the incidental catches are either discarded or brought ashore when there is available deck space for storage. Such small quantities landed are auctioned along with the miscellaneous fish groups. Some interest was evinced on this species by the fish meal traders due to limited availability of raw materials during the year 2008
