Origin of Ferroelectricity in Orthorhombic LuFeO
We demonstrate that small but finite ferroelectric polarization (0.01
C/cm) emerges in orthorhombic LuFeO () at (600
K) because of commensurate (k = 0) and collinear magnetic structure. The
synchrotron x-ray and neutron diffraction data suggest that the polarization
could originate from enhanced bond covalency together with subtle contribution
from lattice. The theoretical calculations indicate enhancement of bond
covalency as well as the possibility of structural transition to the polar
phase below . The phase, in fact, is found to be
energetically favorable below in orthorhombic LuFeO ( with
very small energy difference) than in isostructural and nonferroelectric
LaFeO or NdFeO. Application of electric field induces finite
piezostriction in LuFeO via electrostriction resulting in clear domain
contrast images in piezoresponse force microscopy.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure
An Empirical Study on the Announcement of Corporate Quarterly Results in India
Announcement of quarterly results is the course of communicating the performance of a company to its owners. Investors’ long-term buying decisions are largely based on the earnings stream of the firm. In order to show the progress of the company, the earnings position is revealed as per the listing agreement at a regular interval. Normally a higher earnings than the previous quarter earnings should be welcomed by the market. This should be associated with greater return after the result is announced. All higher return after the announcement cannot say to be due to the earnings results. To find out the impact of results on returns, the impact of other factors in returns is to be segregated. The impact of other factors in return is taken from the index which is nothing but the market return. The announcement of earnings is unique and specific to a company, to study its impact on the market place, the impact of other factors is removed, that is why the period is limited to 32 days and the return is calculated for 31 days. This study examines abnormal returns of earnings announcement during the pre-announcement and post announcement period. This study is based on samples of 50 Nifty companies listed on National Stock Exchange, exhibited that investors do not gain value from earnings announcement. Indeed shareholders earned little value over a period of 15 days prior to the earnings announcement through to 15 days after the announcement. The lower return may be partially compensated because of the current earnings yield. This study also indicates that announcement of result does not convey any useful information to the investing community, which needs to be further investigated
Exploitation of Acoustic signature of Low flying Aircraft using Acoustic Vector Sensor
Acoustics is emerging as a significant complementary modality to be explored and exploited in the development of Intelligence and surveillance systems that traditionally rely on technology rooted in electro-magnetic field phenomena. Acoustics is emerging as a significant complementary modality to be explored and exploited in the development of Intelligence and surveillance systems that traditionally rely on technology rooted in electro-magnetic field phenomena. An application of the current interest is the detection and localization of the sound sources on battlefield using Acoustic sensors in ground and on board unmanned aerial vehicle. In this work a nonlinear least-square cepstrum and auto correlation methods are made to estimate the motion parameters of a low flying aircraft whose narrowband acoustic energy emissions were received by a ground-based Acoustic vector sensor. The data obtained from the sensor were processed and analyzed using digital signal processing approach. This passive technique is applied to real acoustic sensor data under the condition that the vehicle flies at a constant velocity and the trajectory is a straight line. The performances of both methods are evaluated and compared using actual acoustic data.Defence Science Journal, 2014, 64(2), pp. 95-98. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.64.3924
Histochemical localization of cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase during the developmental stages of Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal
Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal is a promising herb that has been used as both traditional and modern therapeutic agent by virtue of its bioactive compounds especially withanolides. Earlier in vitro studies revealed the relation between cytokinin (CK) level and biogeneration of withanolides. The information on the cytokinin metabolism in W. somnifera is lacking. The role of enzymes involved in cytokinin metabolism can provide the link between the level of cytokinin and withanolide production. CK is a plant growth regulator playing crucial role in almost all the developmental processes. It is agreed that, the oxidative breakdown of CK by cytokinin oxidase (CKX) is an important process by which plant tissues control the levels and distribution of CK. This paper reports histochemical localization of CKX at various developmental stages of W. somnifera.Key words: Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase, Withania somnifera, CKX localization
Marine yeast isolation and industrial application
Over the last century, terrestrial yeasts have been widely used in various industries, such as baking, brewing, wine, bioethanol and pharmaceutical protein production. However, only little attention has been given to marine yeasts. Recent research showed that marine yeasts have several unique and promising features over the terrestrial yeasts, for example higher osmosis tolerance, higher special chemical productivity and production of industrial enzymes. These indicate that marine yeasts have great potential to be applied in various industries. This review gathers the most recent techniques used for marine yeast isolation as well as the latest applications of marine yeast in bioethanol, pharmaceutical and enzyme production fields.

HILS based Waypoint Simulation for Fixed Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
Hardware in loop simulation HILS-based waypoint simulation for fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicles is proposed in this paper. It uses an open-source arducopter as a flight controller, mission planner, and X-plane simulator. Waypoint simulation is carried out in the flight controller and executed in an X-plane simulator through a mission planner. A fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle with an inverted T tail configuration has been chosen to study and validate waypoint flight control algorithms. The data transmission between mission planner and flight controller is done by serial protocol, whereas data exchange between X-plane and mission planner is done by User Datagram Protocol (UDP). APM mission planner is used as a machine interface to exchange data between the flight controller and the user. User inputs and flight gain parameters, both inner loop and outer loop, can be modified with the help of a mission planner. In addition to that, the mission planner provides a visual output representation of flight data and navigation algorithm
Software in Loop Simulation based Waypoint Navigation for Fixed Wing UAV
Software in loop simulation (SILS) based waypoint navigation test platform being presented in this paper for fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed platform helps to test waypoint navigation algorithm before implementing into real time environment. Matlab/Simulink and X-plane flight simulator are chosen for the proposed platform. The interface between these two platforms are done by using user datagram protocol (UDP). The waypoint navigation which is to be tested is run in Matlab/Simulink environment where as fixed wing model runs in X-plane simulator. Inverted T tail fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle configuration is chosen for this research work to verify both its inner loop (attitude control) and outer loop (navigation control). Navigation algorithm executed in Matlab/Simulink compares difference between current and desired latitude longitude position to command flight simulator to reach its desired waypoint. Navigation towards a desired waypoint will be achieved by varying inner loop attitude command of an unmanned aerial vehicle. Finally results are observed and performances are verified in X-plane simulator
Allele frequencies of STRs (F13A01, FESFPS and vWA) in random Chinese population of Malaysia
Biochemical and molecular genetic markers have played a vital role in forensic
analysis of bio .. specimens and in kingships testing. However with the advent of DNA
profiling technique positive identification has become a reality. The science of DNA
profiling had revamped analytical procedures employed in the analysis. Short Tandem
Repeats (STRs) DNA profiling is widely used in most of the laboratories for personal
identification. A population database on the STR to be employed for analysis is a
prerequisite. In the present study distribution of allele frequencies for three validated
STRs - F13A01, FESFPS, vWA was compiled for the ethnic Chinese population of
Malaysia. DNA samples form 100 random Chinese individual were processed using
multiplex primer mix. There is no significant deviation from the Hardy-Weinberg
equilibrium. The discrimination power of the three STRs is 0.9987
