Limitations of conventional wires such as copper wires are causing dispersion and distortion of the message signal for long distances communication especially for the wide bandwidths. The ability of fiber optic to overcome this problem is making it a dominant transmission medium. Despite of this major positive attribute of optic fibers, there is still a downside for using the fiber optic communication; that is the nonlinearity problem especially at the very high frequency bandwidth. For the first time, a desigen of an audio signal is suggested and executed in MatLab with an integration with OptiSystemTM software to discuss and solve this issu. The audio signal is then transmitted in different shapes of modulation signals (NRZ, RZ & RC) for different distances (100 km & 75 km) via a fiber optic media to be received in a receiving part of the simulated system. Three tests are used to do so. The first is the Quality-factor (Q-Factor) against the received power, second test is eye diagram performance and finally is the measuring of the amplitude of output (received) signal for each modulation signal shape using the Oscilloscope Visualizer. The NZR modulation signal was found to be the best one of the three used signals’ types in all three tests. The Q-factor for NRZ pulse shape (=12) was higher than that for RZ (=10) and RC (=8) for a 100 km distance at the same received power level

Transporting industry is having an important influence on the nations’ progress. The states that having long shoreline are taking advantage of their locations in using sea transportations which is more economical than other types of transportations. One of the most economical marine transport is the diesel fueling engines. This paper is to optimize the PID controller to control the speed of the engine overcoming the navigation environmental changes such as waves, winds and other effective external factors as well as the vessel internal changes such as the shipment load, equipment’s conditions …etc. PID is optimized through the optimum selection of its parameters (KP, KI and KD). A Simulink/MatLab model of the system is designed for this purpose. The Hybrid IWOPSO (HIWOPSO) algorithm is used for finding the optimum values of the PID parameters. The engine step response with these parameters is compared to the responses with those obtained by the IWO and PSO besides the Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC)

    Get PDF
This paper examines the efficacy of telemedicine (TM) technology compared to traditional face-to-face (F2F) visits as an alternative healthcare delivery service for managing diabetes in populations residing in urban medically underserved areas (UMUPAs). Retrospective electronic patient health records (ePHR) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were examined from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2021. Multiple linear regression models indicated that T2DM patients with uncontrolled diabetes utilizing TM were similar to traditional visits in lowering hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. The healthcare service type significantly predicted HbA1c % values, as the regression coefficient for TM (vs. F2F) showed a significant negative association (B = −0.339, p \u3c 0.001), suggesting that patients using TM were likely to have 0.34 lower HbA1c % values on average when compared with F2F visits. The regression coefficient for female (vs. male) gender showed a positive association (B = 0.190, p \u3c 0.034), with HbA1c % levels showing that female patients had 0.19 higher HbA1c levels than males. Age (B = −0.026, p \u3c 0.001) was a significant predictor of HbA1c % levels, with 0.026 lower HbA1c % levels for each year’s increase in age. Black adults (B = 0.888, p \u3c 0.001), on average, were more likely to have 0.888 higher HbA1c % levels when compared with White adults

Benthos are invertebrate animals that live at the bottom of the waters. One biota that can be used as a biological parameter in determining the quality of a waters is macrozoobenthos. The waters around the Center Point of Indonesia (CPI) are one of the waters that have received a lot of additional organic matter and other pollutant materials through the estuaries of the canals that flow into the waters of Losari Beach. The study was conducted by sampling macrozoobenthos at each station using Ejkman Grab at each station 3 times sampling then sieved using a benthos sieve measuring 1 mm. In addition, measurements of environmental factors were carried out at each station with 3 replications directly in the field and analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the macrozoobenthos sampling study obtained 4 macrozoobenthos classes found at the study site, namely the Gastropod Class (4 species), the Crustacea Class, the Ophiuroidea Class, and the Oligochaeta Class each 1 species. The highest diversity and abundance of macrozoobenthos was found at Station 6 which is suspected because this station has a sandy sediment texture and sediment DOM content and high concentrations of water solubility of oxygen which support the life of makzoobenthos. Macrozoobenthos diversity at the study site (waters around the Center Point of Indonesia) is low with a diversity index (H') value of 0.00 - 0.16. The high abundance of makzoobenthos at Station 5 and Station 6 is characterized by high current velocity, sediment DOM and high oxygen concentration

Interrelationships among Lean HRM Practices and their Impact on Firm Performance: A Comparison between the Jordanian and German Models

    Get PDF
Lean management is a contemporary management system that firms adopt to boost their performance. Lean management can be integrated with human resources management to develop a new concept of lean human resources management (LHRM). This entails the implementation of several practices. However, the LHRM-performance paradigm remains under-explored in the literature. Hence, this study aims to examine the interrelationships between LHRM practices and the impacts of those practices on firm performance (FP). Using two equal-sized samples (n = 250 each) of manufacturing firms in Jordan and Germany, the current study proposes two structural equation models (i.e., a Jordanian and a German model) depicting the interrelationships between LHRM practices and the impacts of those practices on FP. After testing these models, a comparison between them is conducted, producing findings with theoretical and practical implications. The main findings indicate that the average implementation of LHRM practices among German manufacturing firms is at a higher level than the average implementation among Jordanian firms. The findings also support the proposed interrelationships between LHRM practices and the impact of those practices on FP for both the Jordanian and German models. This study is among the first to highlight the proposed relationships, both in general and in the context of comparing developed and developing countries. Its findings have important implications that can enable manufacturing managers to benefit from the implementation of LHRM practices to enhance firm performance in different contexts. These findings provide valuable insights for human resource managers and decision makers and open several avenues for future research

The study, in 2012, has successfully formulated with the MCDM for each allocation of space in KKPD allotment (core areas, sustainable fisheries zone, used zone, and other zones). This weighting techniques need to be tested and be implemented in identifying and designing the KKPD in the study area. This study aims to identify and map the biophysical conditions and the potential of coastal and marine natural resources in marine conservation area candidate, North Luwu Regency; to identify the areas suitable for the KKPD based on weighting technique with the MCDM method; and to evaluate potential candidates for marine protected areas in the coastal region. This study used a survey method to perform in situ measurements of physico-chemical parameters, conducted a survey of coastal ecosystems using the transect method. The socio-economic data of coastal communities were collected using the questionnaire. The biophysical conditions and marine resources were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The results showed that the candidate region has a rich diversity of coastal ecosystems, but the ecosystem, particularly seagrass beds and coral reefs have been in damaged category. Only the mangrove ecosystem that was still in a good condition category with moderate-to-heavy levels of density. There were 6 species of seagrasses and 6 species of mangroves and 71 species of reef fish. It was discovered 2 regions corresponding to the allotment of the Core Zone, which is in the Region I and III with the total area of 654.22 hectares. For sustainable fisheries zone, Region II and IV would be the first choice with the total area of 620.27 hectares. The Used Zone was identified in the Region V with total area of 480.66 hectares. The total area of the region was equal to 1755.15 hectares. Marine protected areas of was suggested to the protection of coastal ecosystems including mangroves, seagrass beds, and coral reefs and its associated biota, especially the protection of local feeding ground of several species (sea turtles and dugongs)
