Health Econometric:Uncovering the Anthropometric Behavior on Women's Labor Market
Exploring current literature that assess relations between cognitive ability and height, obesity, and its productivity-employability effect on women's labor market we appraised the Argentine case to find these social-physical relations which involve anthropometric and traditional economic variables. Adapting an anthropometric Mincer approach by using probabilistic and censured econometric models which were developed for it. Subtle evidence of discriminative behavior on obese women, and a good performance of height variable as unobserved cognitive ability approximate measure to explain feminine productivity has been found.
The District Energy-Efficient Retrofitting of Torrelago (Laguna de Duero – Spain)
The urban growth is estimated to reach up the 66 % by 2050 and consequently the need of resources within the cities will increase significantly. This, combined with the 40 % of energy consumption and 36 % of CO2 emissions of the building sector, makes necessary to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable cities. The CITyFiED project contributes to this transition, aiming to develop an innovative and holistic methodological approach for energy-efficient district renovation and deliver three large scale demonstration cases in the cities of Lund (Sweden), Laguna de Duero (Spain) and Soma (Turkey). CITyFiED methodology consists of several phases that ease the decision-making tasks towards the district renovation, considering the energy efficiency as the main pillar and local authorities as clients. For the case of Torrelago district (Spain) the intervention consists of a set of energy conservative measures including the facąde retrofitting of 143.025 m2 of living space in 31 twelve-storey buildings; the renovation of the district heating network with a new biomass thermal plant; the integration of renewable energy sources, including a micro-cogeneration system, and the installation of individual smart meters. After the renovation action, one-year monitoring campaign is ongoing. The CITyFiED monitoring platform will collect information from the energy systems and deliver environmental, technical, economic and social key performance indicators by March 2019. At the end of the project the achievement of the predefined goals will be verified: Up to 36 % of energy saving and 3,429 tons-CO2/yr emissions saving covering the 59,4 % of the energy consumption with renewable sources. The research and results presented in this paper evolve from activities related to the CITyFiED project, which has received funding from the European Commission under the Grant Agreement no. 609129. This article is the result of cooperative research work of many experts from various countries and we would like to gratefully acknowledge the rest of the CITyFiED partners
An experimental study on femoral lengthening in lambs has been performed
with the following objetives in mind: 1) To determine the ideal technique and level
of osteotomy in bone lengthening: 2) To assess the integrity of the intramedullary
vessels after the so-called corticotomies. Fifty 2-month-old male lambs have been included
in this experiment. Animal grouping has been made according to the type and level
of the lengthening osteotomy performed: percutaneous metaphyseal, percutaneous
diaphyseal, open diaphyseal and open metaphyseal. Another group of ten lambs has been
included in orde r to asse s the condition of the intramedullary vessels just after a
percutaneous diaphyseal osteotomy. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:
1) The ideal tecnique and level of osteotomy for bone lengthening in lambs seem to be
percutaneous and metaphyseal. 2) The satisfactory reconstructions of the lengthened
segment observed using percutaneous osteotomie s cannot be explained by the maintenanc
e of the integrity of the intramedullary vessels after the osteotomy
Design and validity of a badminton observation tool (BOT)
The main purpose of this manuscript was to develop and validate an ad hoc observational tool for badminton singles games, which includes lunges trajectories as a non-analysed variable till this study. For that reason, the observational tool consists of 13 criteria and 47 categories mutually exclusive. 287actions of the 2015 Badminton World Championship were analysed. With the aim to assess the tool’s validity Cohen’s Kappa and generalizability theory were used. The outcomes for complete observational tool and for each criterion exceed 0.98, being above 0.81 proposed by literature as “almost perfect”. Generalizability analysis was done by two sides model (Category/Observer = C/O) and showed an excellent reliability (1.00).
Light Collimation and Focussing by a Thin Flat Metallic Slab
We present experimental and theoretical work showing that a flat metallic
slab can collimate and focus light impinging on the slab from a punctual
source. The effect is optimised when the radiation is around the bulk, not at
the surface, plasma frequency. And the smaller the imaginary part of the
permittivity is, the better the collimation. Experiments for Ag in the visible
as well as calculations are presented. We also discuss the interesting case of
the Aluminium whose imaginary part of the permittivity is very small at the
plasma frequency in UV radiation. Generalization to other materials and
radiations are also discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. To be published on Optics Lette
Notas sobre Descomposiciones Microeconométricas: Un Análisis Antropométrico
This essay presents a theoretic approximation on the microeconometric decompositions analysis by incorporating anthropometric variables, and apprainsing theirs presumable effects on the income distribution. A new body-mass-index based equivalent scale is proposed toward more accurate individual income's representativeness. By assuming an hypothetical empiric case, interesting interpretations would be arriving on the possible interactions among anthropometry and inequality which were accounted through a set of parameter's interpretations on whose meaning could be useful at the time by developing policies to cope with eventual not desired anthropometric effects on income distribution
Health Econometric: Uncovering the Anthropometric Behavior on the Women's Labor Market
Exploring current literature which assess relations between
cognitive ability and height, obesity, and its productivity-employability effect on women's labor market, we appraised the Argentine case to quantify for social-physical interactions which involve anthropometric and traditional economic variables. Hence, an anthropometric Mincer approach has been adapted by using probabilistic and censured econometric models which were developed for it. There has been found evidence that could be understood as the existence of discriminative behavior on the obese women to market entrance; besides, a good performance of women height as an unobserved approximation of the cognitive ability measure to explain feminine productivity
Social networks research for sustainable smart education
Social networks research has grown exponentially over the past decade. Subsequent empirical and conceptual advances have been transposed in the field of education. As the debate on delivering better education for all gains momentum, the big question is how to integrate advances in social networks research, corresponding advances in information and communication technology (ICT) and effectively employ them in the domain of education. To address this question, this paper proposes a conceptual framework (maturity model) that integrates social network research, the debate on technology-enhanced learning (TEL) and the emerging concept of smart education
