    Time-Series BVI Photometry for the Globular Cluster NGC 6981 (M72)

    We present new BVI photometry of the globular cluster NGC 6981 (M72), based mostly on ground-based CCD archive images. We present a new color-magnitude diagram (CMD) that reaches almost four magnitudes below the turn-off level. We performed new derivations of metallicity and morphological parameters of the evolved sequences, in good agreement with previous authors, obtaining a value of [Fe/H] ~ -1.50 in the new UVES scale. We also identify the cluster's blue straggler population. Comparing the radial distribution of these stars with the red giant branch population, we find that the blue stragglers are more centrally concentrated, as found in previous studies of blue stragglers in globular clusters. Taking advantage of the large field of view covered by our study, we analyzed the surface density profile of the cluster, finding extratidal main sequence stars out to r ~ 14.1 arcmin or about twice the tidal radius. We speculate that this may be due to tidal disruption in the course of M72's orbit, in which case tidal tails associated with the cluster may exist. We also take a fresh look at the variable stars in the cluster, recovering all previous known variables, including three SX Phoenicis stars, and adding three previously unknown RR Lyrae (1 c-type and 2 ab-type) to the total census. Finally, comparing our CMD with unpublished data for M3 (NGC 5272), a cluster with similar metallicity and horizontal branch morphology, we found that both objects are essentially coeval.Comment: Accepted for publication in A

    Kinematics of a globular cluster with an extended profile: NGC5694

    We present a study of the kinematics of the remote globular cluster NGC5694 based on GIRAFFE@VLT medium resolution spectra. A sample of 165 individual stars selected to lie on the Red Giant Branch in the cluster Color Magnitude Diagram was considered. Using radial velocity and metallicity from Calcium triplet, we were able to select 83 bona-fide cluster members. The addition of six previously known members leads to a total sample of 89 cluster giants with typical uncertainties <1.0 km/s in their radial velocity estimates. The sample covers a wide range of projected distances from the cluster center, from ~0.2 arcmin to 6.5 arcmin = 23 half-light radii (r_h). We find only very weak rotation, as typical of metal-poor globular clusters. The velocity dispersion gently declines from a central value of sigma=6.1 km/s to sigma = 2.5 km/s at ~2 arcmin = 7.1= r_h, then it remainins flat out to the next (and last) measured point of the dispersion profile, at ~4 arcmin = 14.0 r_h, at odds with the predictions of isotropic King models. We show that both isotropic single-mass non-collisional models and multi-mass anisotropic models can reproduce the observed surface brightness and velocity dispersion profiles.Comment: Accepted for publication by MNRAS.     NGC 5694: another foster son of the Galactic Halo

    We present the results of the analysis of high-resolution spectra obtained with UVES-FLAMES@VLT for six red giant branch stars in the outer-halo metal-poor ([Fe/H]I=-1.98 and [Fe/H]II=-1.83) Galactic globular cluster NGC 5694, which has been suggested as a possible incomer by Lee et al. (2006) based on the anomalous chemical composition of a single cluster giant. We obtain accurate abundances for a large number of elements and we find that: (a) the six target stars have the same chemical composition within the uncertainties, except for Na and Al; (b) the average cluster abundance of \alpha\ elements (with the only exception of Si) is nearly solar, at odds with typical halo stars and globular clusters of similar metallicity; (c) Y, Ba, La and Eu abundances are also significantly lower than in Galactic field stars and star clusters of similar metallicity. Hence we confirm the Lee et al. classification of NGC 5694 as a cluster of extra-galactic origin. We provide the first insight on the Na-O and Mg-Al anti-correlations in this cluster: all the considered stars have very similar abundance ratios for these elements, except one that has significantly lower [Na/Fe] and [Al/Fe] ratios, suggesting that some degree of early self-enrichment has occurred also in this cluster.Comment: Accepted for publication by MNRAS. 15 pages, 8 figures, 4 table

    Berdasarkan berbagai potensi dan kendala yang dimiliki kota Jakarta, arahan RTRW 2010 serta sasaran ruang terbuka hijau yang diinginkan maka dikembangkan konsepsi utama rancangan fisik ruang terbuka hijau berbentuk linier/ koridor yang menyebar secara fisik dalam kota. Sasaran dari pengelolaan ruang terbuka hijau di DKI Jakarta adalah ruang terbuka hijau yang dapat mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan kota, dapat meningkatkan kualitas visual kota, dan juga memberikan dampak positif terhadap tingkat kesejahteraan sosial warganya. Sasaran secara kualitatif adalah untuk mendapatkan kualitas lingkungan fisik kota dan secara kuantitatif adalah untuk mendapat jumlah luasan ruang terbuka hijau kurang lebih 9.250 ha (13,94 %) dari luas kota Jakarta. Berdasarkan pengamatan diambil kesimpulan yaitu ; kondisi fisik pedestrian saat ini belum memenuhi standar yang layak dan belum mengakomodasikan kebutuhan fasilitas pendukung untuk Kenyamanan, keselamatan, dan keamanan lalu lintas pejalan kaki termasuk pejalan kaki dengan keterbatasan fisik dan stamina, serta terdapat fungsi-fungsi lain oleh keberadaan pedagang kaki lima yang menggunakan ruang gerak bebas pejalan kaki. Dengan adanya taman kota Menteng yang berkualitas dan dapat diakses oleh masyarakat umum sehingga dapat mengurangi permasalahan kurangnya fasilitas umum di kecamatan Menteng khususnya. Maksud tujuan studi ini adalah menemukenali potensi dan permasalahan taman Menteng sebagai taman kota serta kriteria kualitas taman berdasarkan nilai keinginan dan kepuasan pengguna atau pengunjung yang datang. Dari hasil analisa dapat diperoleh bahwa taman Menteng sebagai taman kota berdasarkan kriteria kualitas taman terdapat kekurangan seperti penerangan lampu, penertiban parkir motor dan perawatan. Kesimpulannya adalah taman kota Menteng berdasarkan kriteria kualitas taman sudah baik jika benar-benar dijaga oleh dirawat secara berkala dan kerjasama antara pihak-pihak terkait yaitu pemerintah, swasta/pengelola dan masyarakat sebagai pengguna

    El estudio por difracción de rayos X de interestratificados de minerales de la arcilla es de gran utilidad en la investigación geológica de los materiales arcillosos. El analisis de los espectros de difracción de interestratificados regulares utilizando los metodos de "tanteo" de determinación de estructuras cristalinas asi como los basados en la transformada de Fourier, permite obtener una información mas relacionada con el interestratificado que con la muestra arcillosa global en el caso de estudiar muestras no puras, mejor que los métodos quimicos en los que se basan un gran número de conclusiones de tipo estructural. La aplicación de la transformada de Fourier para la función de mezcla asi como de la función densidad electrónica pone de manifiesto que las estructuras de los interestratificados regulares de cloritaclorita hinchable y de clorita-esmectita son distintas, a pesar de ser utilizada indistintamente por algunos autores la denominación de corrensita para ambos interestratificados

    —Hemos revisado 150 artroplastias de Mittelmeier implantadas hasta 1987 en tres hospitales. El periodo de seguimiento medio ha sido de 12,5 años (límites: 8-15). Entre las complicaciones inmediatas aparecieron dos infecciones profundas y cinco luxaciones. El 16% presentaron malos resultados clínicos y el 26% refieren dolor en el muslo. En el vástago femoral se apreció en 33 casos una esclerosis reactiva distal y en 69 se produjo algún grado de hundimiento. Fueron reintervenidos el 18% de los pacientes; en ocho por movilizaciones del vástago y en cuatro por deslizamientos cotiloideos. La artroplastia de Mittelmeier en evaluaciones a largo plazo presenta un elevado número de complicaciones sobre todo a nivel femoral lo que desaconseja su utilización.We have reviewed 150 arthroplasties of Mittelmeier implanted until 1987 in three hospitals. The mean follow-up has been 12,5 years (range: 8-15). Among the inmediate complications appeared two deep infections and five dislocations. A 16% of cases presented poor clinical results and 26% referred pain in the thigh. Distal sclerosis at the femoral stem was appreciated in 33 cases and in 69 some degree of collapse was produced. In 18% of the patients was necessary revision surgery; in eight by mobilizations of the stem and in four by socket displacements. The arthroplasty of Mittelmeier in long-term follow-up presents a high number of complications above all at femoral level what dissuades their utilization

    Do hospitals have a higher mortality rate on weekend admissions? An observational study to analyse weekend effect on urgent admissions to hospitals in Catalonia

    Background 'Weekend effect' is a term used to describe the increased mortality associated with weekend emergency admissions to hospital, in contrast with admission on weekdays. The objective of the present study is to determine whether the weekend effect is present in hospitals in Catalonia. Methods We analysed all urgent admissions in Catalonia in 2018, for a group of pathologies. Two groups were defined (those admitted on a weekday and those admitted on a weekend). We obtained mortality at 3, 7, 15 and 30 days, and applied a proportions test to both groups. Additionally, we used Cox's regression for mortality at 30 days, using the admission on a weekend as the exposition, adjusting by socioeconomic and clinical variables. We used the hospital discharge database and the Central Registry of the Insured Population. Results 72 427 admissions for the selected pathologies during 2018 were found. No statistically significant differences in mortality at 30 days (p=0.524) or at 15 days (p=0.119) according to the day of admission were observed. However, significant differences were found in mortality at 7 days (p=0.025) and at 3 days (p=0.002). The hazard rate associated with the weekend was 1.13 (95% CI: 1.04 to 1.23). By contrast, the adjusted HR of the weekend interaction with time was 0.99 (95% CI: 0.99 to 1.00). Conclusions There is a weekend effect, but it is not constant in time. This could suggest the existence of dysfunctions in the quality of care during the weekend

    R-symmetric Gauge Mediation and the MRSSM

    This is an invited summary of a seminar talk given at various institutions in the United States and Canada. After a brief introduction, a review of the minimal R-symmetric supersymmetric standard model is given, and the benefits to the flavor sector are discussed. R-symmetric gauge mediation is an attempt to realize this model using metastable supersymmetry breaking techniques. Sample low energy spectra are presented and tuning is discussed.
