    Investigation of Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing Enterprises Through Structural Equation Model

    anemonThe purpose of this study is to contribute to the subject of usingenergy efficiently and economizing energy consumption as well as to raiseawareness about this issue. With this object in mind, data has been gatheredfrom manufacturing businesses through survey management in order to determinethe degree of influence of the factors that affect energy efficiency and tomake sure whether there is a relationship between them.  As a result of the factor analysis, fivefactors have been detected. According to the Structural Equation Modelling, there has not been found a statistically meaningful relationship betweenautomatization and energy efficiency. However, it has been understood thatthere is a positive and statistically meaningful relationship between energyefficiency and education as well as between supervision and management. Theimportance of educating the employees, conducting an inspection and the factorof management has been emphasized so as to use energy efficiency and eonomizeenergy consumption. In this respect, awareness for energy efficiency must beimproved in all levels, in addition to the existing energy policies energysaving policies must be formed, and control must be provided through inspectionmechanism.Bu çalışmanın amacı, enerjinin verimli kullanılması ve tasarrufunsağlanması konusunda katkı sağlamak ve farkındalık yaratmaktır. Bu amaçlaimalat işletmelerinden enerji verimliğini etkileyen etmenlerin etkiderecelerini ve aralarında ilişki olup olmadığının belirlenmesi için anketyönetimi ile veri toplanmıştır. Faktör analizi sonucunda beş faktörbelirlenmiştir. Yapısal Eşitlik modeli analizine göre, otomasyon ve enerjiverimliliği arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır.Ancak, enerji verimliliği ile eğitim, denetim ve yönetim arasında pozitif yöndeve istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. Enerjininverimli kullanılması ve tasarrufun sağlanması için, çalışanlara eğitimverilmesi, denetimin yapılması ve yönetim faktörünün önemi ortaya konmuştur. Bubağlamda Enerji verimliliği bilinci her düzeyde geliştirilmeli, var olan enerjipolitikalarına ilave enerji tasarrufu politikaları oluşturulmalı ve denetimmekanizması ile kontrol sağlanmalıdır.41956

    Non-verbal cues: Improving communication in construction projects

    Construction industry is a dynamic, project based industry in where many problems occur due to communication issues. As it is proven that effective communication and conflict resolution abilities have a strong correlation between them, communication in the construction industry should constantly be improved. Unfortunately, the existing construction curricula do not offer enough courses which would help students to communicate effectively. Embedding technical communication into curricula and introducing courses such as Construction Communication aiming on producing construction management (CM) graduates with good writing and speaking skills are necessary. However, written and verbal languages are not the sole means by which individuals exchange information. Non-verbal cues play a significant role in communication. Therefore it is necessary for CM graduates to master the skills of using and reading body language. The literature study for the subject of communication in the education shows that body language and non-verbal communication were not taken into consideration yet. They are primarily the subject areas of anthropologists, linguists, and social psychologists. This paper aims reviewing the role of non-verbal communication skills in construction business and highlights the importance of bringing the topic into classroom. © 2012 American Society for Engineering Education

    Effects of combined rapid palatal expansion and face mask therapy on mandibular dentition

    Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the effects of combined rapid maxillary expansion (RPE) and face mask (FM) application on the mandibular dentition. Materials and Method: In this retrospective study pre- and post-treatment cephalometric radiographs and orthodontic models of 25 patients (10 female, 15 male) with a mean skeletal age of 12 years and 1 month, being in permanent dentition, having skeletal Class 3 anomaly (ANB<0) accompanying with maxillary retrognathism and posterior crossbite who had been treated with a combined application of bonded Hyrax RPE and FM were evaluated. The mean duration for the RPE-FM application was 8.7 months. The lower arch intermolar and intercanine widths, arch depth and the amount of crowding between canines were evaluated using Littles’ Irregularity Index (LII) on the 3D images of the models utilizing the 3Shape OrthoAnalyzer 2013-1 program. Mandibular incisors’ inclination (IMPA degree) were determined on cephalometric radiographs. The statistical evaluation was done with paired t-test, and the statistical significance was set at p<0.01. Results: In the lower dental arch, a significant increase of 1.38 mm was found in the intermolar width (p<0.001). While no significant difference was observed in the intercanine width, there was a significant decrease in the arch depth (1.45 mm; p<0.001) and a significant increase in the LII value (1.46 mm; p<0.01). Besides, there was no significant difference in the IMPA degree. Conclusion: Combined RPE-FM application in the treatment of skeletal Class 3 malocclusion provides an increase in mandibular intermolar width that may increase the arch length. On the contrary, a decrease in the arch depth results in shortening of the arch length. Clinicians should be conscious of a mandibular anterior crowding during this type of combined therapy

The ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging findings are discussed and a review of the literature regarding differential diagnosis of bleeding and abdominal wall defects is made.
