Poisson limit theorems for the Robinson-Schensted correspondence and for the multi-line Hammersley process

We consider Robinson-Schensted-Knuth algorithm applied to a random input and study the growth of the bottom rows of the corresponding Young diagrams. We prove multidimensional Poisson limit theorem for the resulting Plancherel growth process. In this way we extend the result of Aldous and Diaconis to more than just one row. This result can be interpreted as convergence of the multi-line Hammersley process to its stationary distribution which is given by a collection of independent Poisson point processes.Comment: version 2: 41 pages, the proofs are now more detaile

Third Worldwide Occurrence of Juangodoyite, Na2Cu(CO3)2, and Other Secondary Na, Cu, Mg, and Ca Minerals in the Fore-Sudetic Monocline (Lower Silesia, SW Poland)

Na-Cu carbonates are relatively rare secondary minerals in weathering zones of ore deposits. Hereby we describe mineral composition and crystal chemistry of the most important secondary (Na)Cu minerals and their Na- and Mg-bearing associates forming rich paragenesis in Rudna IX mine. A non-bulky Ca-rich dripstone-like paragenesis from Lubin G艂贸wny mine is also characterized, using Powder X-Ray Di raction, Rietveld, and Electron Microprobe methods. Light blue juangodoyite (3rd occurrence worldwide) and darker chalconatronite are the most important members of the Rudna IX paragenesis, being associated with malachite, aragonite (intergrown with hydromagnesite and northupite), and probably cornwallite. Most of the minerals are chemically close to their ideal composition, with minor Mg substitution in malachite. Cu chlorides are mainly represented by clinoatacamite and probably herbertsmithite. Additional, minor phases include trace Cu minerals langite, wroewolfeite, and a lavendulan-group mineral, and monohydrocalcite. Separate halite-rich encrustations are shown to be filled with eriochalcite, ktenasite, and kr枚hnkite. The most likely to be confirmed coexisting species include paratacamite, wooldridgeite/nesquehonite, johillerite, melanothallite, and kipushite. The Lubin paragenesis mainly comprises aragonite, gypsum, rapidcreekite, and monohydrocalcite, with trace vaterite. Blue colouration is mainly provided by a yet unspecified Ni-, Co-, Mg-, and Mn-bearing Cu-Zn-Ca arsenate mineral close to parnauite

Occurrence and extraction of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator leads with conductor externalization

聽 聽Background: The increasing number of patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) contributes to the rising number of patients qualifying for a transvenous lead extraction (TLE) due to infection, vascular or lead failure related indications. The purpose of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis of the occurrence of conductor externalization in TLE patients and to assess the success rate in the extraction of these leads. Methods: TLE procedure was performed between 2012 and 2014 of 428 electrodes in 259 patients. Out of these, 143 (33.4%) leads in 138 (52.9%) patients were ICD leads. The indications for the TLE in ICD patients were: infection in 37 patients, lead failure in 84 patients, and others in 17 patients. Conductor externalization was observed in 8 ICD leads (5.6%) in 8 (5.8%) patients. The mean dwell颅ing time for externalized leads was 87.9 (55 to 132) months compared to 60.1 (3 to 246) months of the remaining 135 ICD leads (p = 0.0329). All externalized leads were successfully and completely extracted using device traction, mechanical telescopic sheaths and/or autorotational cutting sheaths. No complica颅tions of lead extraction procedures were observed in 8 patients with externalization. Results: Patients with lead externalization were often in a better New York Heart Association func颅tional class (I or II) compared to those in the rest of the study group (p = 0.0212). Conclusions: Conductor externalization is a rare finding in patients undergoing TLE. This occurs with different manufacturers and lead types. In this complication transvenous lead extraction with the mechanical extraction tools can be safely performed.

Recursive properties of Dirac and Metriplectic Dirac brackets with Applications

In this article, we prove that Dirac brackets for Hamiltonian and non-Hamiltonian constrained systems can be derived recursively. We then study the applicability of that formulation in analysis of some interesting physical models. Particular attention is paid to the feasibility of implementation code for Dirac brackets in Computer Algebra System and analytical techniques for inversion of triangular matrices.Comment: 29 pages, Latex. Several MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) devices have been analysed and simulated. The new proposed model of SiC MPS (Merged PIN-Schottky) diodes is in full agreement with the real MPS devices. The real size DLL (Dynamic Lattice Liquid) simulator as well as the research on modelling and simulation of modern VLSI devices with practical applications have been presented. In the basis of experience in the field of ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) based systems a proof-of-concept DAQ (data acquisition) system for ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) have been proposed

Metaphors in Teaching (and Research) Practice: How to Teach Qualitative Research by Metaphorical Images?

    No full text
The purpose of this article is to present the potential of metaphors and their use in teaching qualitative research methodology. Starting with the review of the most important achievements in the field of using metaphors as an object of knowledge and a聽cognitive tool, I聽will go on to describe the genesis of interest in metaphors in didactics. I聽will present the process of experimenting with the use of metaphors during methodological classes and the obtained results, both at the content level (i.e. discovering metaphors for qualitative research) and at the procedural level (i.e. reconstructing ways of working with a聽metaphor in class), all of which also refers to, albeit indirectly, to research. At the same time, in the article, I聽make a聽definition-related distinction between two general types of qualitative research, which emerged while working with metaphors. Jednocze艣nie w聽artykule dokonuje definicyjnego wyodr臋bnienia dw贸ch generalnych typ贸w bada艅 jako艣ciowych wy艂onionych podczas pracy z聽metaforami
