Size, book to market ratio and momentum strategies: Evidence from Istanbul stock exchange
This paper examines the effects of size, book-to-market in explaining momentum at the Istanbul Stock Exchange
during the period 1995 to 2010. The results show that momentum strategy appears to have a high performance
for six month holding periods. Moreover, the results are robust and can be explained by size and by book-to
market effect. Besides, January effect is insignificant on the stock returns in the period 1995-2010. The result of
this study also shows that the momentum is existing on stock returns in Istanbul Stock Exchange and the
evidence suggests that the momentum strategies can be used to obtain abnormal returns by the investors in

Energy consumption and stock market relationship: Evidence from Turkey
A large number of studies on the relationship between financial indicators and
macroeconomic variables such as economic growth and energy as a result of the increase in the energy
prices and their volatility in recent years have emerged. The aim of this study, apart from the other
studies in the area, is to investigate the interaction between energy consumption and stock exchange
index in Turkey. Ceteris paribus, economic growth with the increase of energy consumption, the
growth of the economy impact will also affect the stock exchange which is accepted as the barometer
of the economy (vice versa). The interaction between the BIST National 100 index, BIST National
Industrial Index and energy consumption is investigated by Johansen Cointegration Test, Granger
Causality Test tests based on VAR for the period of 1995-2011. Unidirectional causality relationship
is detected from BIST 100 Index and BIST Industrial Index towards energy consumption
Over-the-counter derivatives market transactions
Global piyasalarla
karşılaştırıldığında, Türkiye’de tezgahüstü türev piyasalarda gerçekleşen işlem
hacmi yıllar itibariyle sürekli artış göstermesine rağmen düşük düzeylerde kalmıştır.
2011 yılı itibariyle gerçekleştirilen işlemlerin % 12,5’i riskten korunma amaçlı, %
87,5’i ise alım satım amaçlı işlemlerdir. Alım satım amaçlı işlemlerin % 60’ı swap
işlemleri, %23’ü opsiyon işlemleri, %15’i ise forward işlemleridir. Global
The aim of this study is to examine the development of OTC derivatives
markets in 2000-2011 periods in Turkey and the world. The criticisms on OTC
derivatives markets are also examined in this study. The need of hedging and
motivations of speculative profits which were arisen from the increase of assets
price fluctuations and uncertainty in markets soon after 1970s caused extraordinary growing of derivatives markets. As compared with global markets, the trading
volume of OTC derivatives markets in Turkey is at low level although it has
continuously increased by years. 12.5 percent of transactions conducted by year of
2011 are with the aim of hedging, while 87.5 percent are with the aim of trading.
Transactions with the aim of trading consist of swaps, options and forwards,
respectively %60, %23 and %15. As parallel with global over-the-counter markets,
swap contracts have dominant share in transactions volume of over-the-counter
market in Turkey. All in all, swap contracts of banks are conducted with the aim
hedging their own position, while other contracts are conducted for customers’
demand. It is essential to make legal arrangement, monitor and audit the risks in
these markets and take precautions for the risk improvement on OTC derivatives
markets due to some of big companies and financial corporations facing with
enormous loss or bankruptcy in recent years and last global crises
A multi-criteria performance analysis of Initial Public Offering (IPO) firms using CRITIC and VIKOR methods
As Initial Public Offering (IPO) is a significant milestone in the financial strategy of a firm, this study aims to evaluate performance of IPOs using multiple measures including accounting-based performance (ABP), value-based performance (VBP) and overall performance (OP) in the pre-and post-IPO periods. Therefore, we present two combined approaches based on a compromise MCDM method-VIKOR and objective weighting methods-CRITIC and MW (Mean Weight) to evaluate and rank IPOs to help shareholders with understanding on how their performance changes under the different measures. Since the compromise solution (one or a set) proposed by VIKOR depends substantially on criteria weights, VIKOR-CRITIC can show more realistic results because of the differential weights assigned to criteria by CRITIC. In this study, a case study is conducted in order to evaluate the performance of Turkish IPOs based on ABP, VBP and OP measures using the combined methods. The results show that the compromise solution results obtained by VIKOR-CRITIC may be a guideline for investors in making more profitable investment decisions before leaping into any investment decision.

firmalarla sabit fiyatla talep toplama yöntemini kullanarak halka arz edilen

The impact of competitive aggressiveness on financial performance: A research on the leading industrial firms in Turkey
Today’s firms operate in difficult and complex environment in which technological developments are accelerating,

must adapt themselves to this change and conversion and take their place in this fierce competition ring. Besides
sustainable growth, the competitive approaches adopted by the companies in order to dominate the market have a
significant affect on firms performance. Therefore, to determine the relationship between their competing approaches

is to investigate the effect of competitive aggressiveness tendencies on financial performance of firms. For this purpose,
the effects of aggressive competitiveness on six different financial performance indicators is investigated and the
hypotheses of the research is tested by regression analysis. As a result of this research,, it has been concluded that
aggressive competitiveness has a significant and positive effect on Earnings Before Taxes/Total Assets ratio, Earnings
Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization/Total Assets ratio and Net Sales/Total Assets ratio from the firm
performance indicators. This result suggests that increasing the aggressive competitiveness tendencies of the firms may
increase both their profitability and use efficiency of the assets

Do corporate governance ratings reflect firm financial performance?
In this study, we investigate whether the commercial corporate governance ratings generated
by Turkish rating institutions provide useful information about firm financial performance. We
analyze corporate governance ratings both summary and sub-ratings in reflecting firm financial
performance. In the study, both accounting based (ROA) and market based performance measures (MVA, Tobin’s Q) are used to properly capture firm financial performance. The results indicate that the summary corporate governance ratings seem to be inadequate to reflect firm financial performance, while mixed results are determined between sub-ratings and firm financial performanc
Corporate Governance and Brand Value
Corporate governance became a crucial issue for both business and academic world as a result of world-wide financial scandals; hence many studies were conducted about it. As distinct from the others, this study aims to determine whether there is a relation between the corporate governance sub-scores (shareholders score, stakeholders score, public disclosure and transparency score and board of directors score) of the firms and firms’ brand values by using panel data analysis for the period 2011-2015. We focus on the nexus between corporate governance and brand value while most of the previous studies investigated the impact of corporate governance on firm performance. Contrary to expectations, our results surprisingly indicate that there is a statistically insignificant relationship between corporate governance rating scores and brand values.
