    The effect of constructive approach on success, attitude and permanency at the social sciences teaching (5th class example)

    Bu araştırmanın temel amacı “Yapılandırmacı Yaklaşımın Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretiminde Başarı, Tutum ve Kalıcılığa Etkisi (5.Sınıf Örneği)”ni belirlemektir. Çalışma grubu, 2007-2008 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Erzurum ili Aşkale ilçesi İbrahim Polat İlköğretim Okulundaki 5-A ve 5-B şubelerinde öğrenim gören 21 erkek ve 20 kız olmak üzere toplam 41 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. 5-A sınıfında bulunan 8 erkek ve 11 kız olmak üzere toplam 19 öğrenci kontrol grubunu, 5-B sınıfında bulunan 13 erkek, 9 kız olmak üzere toplam 22 öğrenci ise deney grubunu oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada “Kontrol Gruplu Ön Test-Son Test Deneysel Desen”, verilerin analizinde Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Analizler, bilgisayarda SSPS 12.00 for Windows İstatistiksel paket programıyla yapılmıştır. Anlamlılık düzeyi 0,05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, yapılandırmacı öğrenme ilkelerine göre işlenen dersin, öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersine ilişkin akademik başarıları ve öğrenilen bilgilerin kalıcılık düzeylerini arttırdığını, tutum yönünden ise bir değişiklik olmadığını göstermiştir.Main purpose of this study is to determine “The effect of constructive approach on succes, attitude and permanency at the social sciences teaching (5th Class Example)“. The universe of this study consist of totally 41 students (21 boys and 20 girls) in 5-A and 5-B classes in İbrahim Polat Primary School in Aşkale, Erzurum in the 2007-2008 education and teaching year. From the class 5-A, 8 boys and 11 girls, totally 19 students were used as a control group and also from the class 5-B, 13 boys and 9 girls, totally 22 students were used as an experiment group. Pre-test - last test with control group experimental figure‘‘ was used in the experiment. Mann-Whitney U test was used for analizing the data.This analysises were made by using package program SSPS 12.00 for Windows (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Meaningfulness level is accepted as 0.05. As a conclusion of findings, teaching a subject with constructivist learning principles, increase the students‘ academic success in Social Sciences and rememberance level what they learn , but there is no change in attitude side

    In this research, it is aimed to determine effects of teaching application, which is based on writing activities, on students' learning at a high school math class. The samples of this qualitative research consist of 15 students studying at the level of 9th grade at a general high school. The data consist of two different writing activities of the students which were made to be written by first researcher in her own math class for a 3 months period in spring term. These writing activities are journal writing and expository writing. In the research, the students were made to be written 5 journal and 5 expository writing activities and after that analysis of writing activities were carried out according to the qualitative research methods. As a result, according to the findings, it was seen that writing activities have positive effect on students' learning

    In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the cytotoxic and dielectric properties of newly synthesized 2,2,4,4-tetra(4′-oxy-substituted-chalcone)- 6,6-diphenylcyclotriphosphazene derivatives (3–10). Firstly, 2,2,4,4-tetrachloro-6,6-diphenyl cyclotriphosphazene (2) was obtained through Friedel Crafts alkylation in the presence of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, benzene and triethylamine and anhydrous AlCl3. The compounds 3–10 were synthesized from the reaction of the hydroxychalcone compounds (1a–h) with 2 in the presence of K2CO3 and within the acetone solvent for the first time and their dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor and ac conductivity of compounds 3–10 were examined through the impedance analyzer as a function of frequency. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of compounds 3–10 in five different concentrations (1, 5, 25, 50, and 100 µM) were analyzed by colorimetric MTT assay which is based on reduction of MTT salt by mitochondria of alive cells over the human ovarian cancer (A2780) and human prostate cancer (PC-3 and LNCaP) cell lines. The LogIC50 values of 3–10 were calculated by using a Graphpad prism 6 programs on a computer. The obtained results suggests that the compounds have a powerful cytotoxic activity (especially A2780, p < 0.05).This work was supported financially by The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) (Project Number: 115Z101)

    We investigated the cytotoxic effects of the newly synthesized cyclotriphosphazene derivatives on A2780 (ovarian), PC-3 and LNCaP (prostate) cancer cell lines. 4′-hydroxy-substituted-chalcone compounds (2–8) were reacted with diphenyl-cyclotriphosphazene (DPP) in the presence of acetone/K2CO3 in order to obtain novel cyclotriphosphazene compounds (DPP 2–8). The structures of DPP 2–8 were characterized by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, FT-IR, elemental analysis, 1H, 13C-APT, and 31P NMR measurements. The thermal properties of all phosphazene compounds have been studied after synthesis and characterization procedure. The cytotoxic effects of DPP 2–8 were examined primarily by applying the MTT method based on the measurement of mitochondrial activity. In this regard, several phosphazene compounds have shown high chemotherapeutic effect at low dose (p < 0.05). When the cytotoxic effects of DPP 2–8 at doses of 1, 5, 25, 50 and 100 µM on A2780 cells were examined, it was observed that DPP-3, DPP-4, DPP-5 and DPP-7 were more effective than other derivatives suggested by their high Log IC50 values (p < 0.05). The compounds DPP 2–8 possess cytotoxic activity against PC-3 and LNCaP cells (especially compounds DPP-4 and DPP-5, p < 0.05).The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) (Project Number: 115Z101)

    Evaluation of Spermatological Parameters of Frozen Bull Semen with Conventional and CASA (Computer-Aided Sperm Analysis) Method

    The aim of this study was to compare the assessments made by the CASA system and subjective method (by using phase-contrast microscope) for spermatological examinations of imported and locally produced semen. Frozen semen (imported and local production) belonging to 20 different bulls was examined by phase contrast light microscope method (conventional method) and method supported by computer (CASA method) for evaluating the principle semen characteristics. For imported semen, considering the average values of samples examined by the two methods, significant differences (P<0.05) were observed in the values of motility and concentration as well as the rates of abnormal and dead spermatozoa. For domestic semen, significant differences (P<0.05) were observed for the concentration of samples by the conventional evaluations and for the assessment of motility and concentration by the CASA method. It was observed that there were significantly (P<0.05) higher data only for the concentration assessed by both methods, while no such differences between the values of motility as well as the rates of abnormal and dead spermatozoa were found when considering the general average rates.     Background and aims: Tempol (4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine- N-oxyl) is a water-soluble analogue of the spin label TEMPO. As an antioxidative agent, it is a member of nitroxides, which detoxifies superoxide and possibly other toxic radicals in vivo. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether tempol prevents harmful systemic effects of superior mesenteric ischemia-reperfusion on left colonic anastomosis in rats. Materials and methods: Anastomosis of the left colon was performed in 30 rats that were divided into three groups each having ten animals: sham-operated control (group I), 60 min of intestinal ischemia-reperfusion by superior mesenteric artery occlusion (group II), and tempol-treated group (30 mg/kg before and after the ischemia-reperfusion (group III). On postoperative day 5, all animals were killed and anastomotic bursting pressures were measured in vivo. Tissue samples were obtained for further investigation of anastomotic hydroxyproline content, perianastomotic malondialdehyde, and glutathione levels. Results: There was a statistically significant increase in the quantity of myeloperoxidase activity and malondialdehyde levels in group II, along with a decrease in glutathione levels, anastomotic hydroxyproline content, and bursting pressure values when compared to controls. However, all of the investigated parameters were normalized in tempol-treated animals (group III). Conclusion: We conclude that tempol significantly prevents harmful systemic effects of reperfusion injury on colonic anastomoses in a rat model of superior mesenteric artery occlusion. © Springer-Verlag 2006
