    Get PDF
The main goal in this study is to determine the analytic solution of onedimensional initial boundary value problem including sequential space-time fractional differential equation with boundary conditions in Neumann sense. The solution of the space-time fractional diffusion problem is accomplished in series form by employing the separation of variables method. To obtain coefficients in the Fourier series is utilized a fractional inner product. The obtained results are supported by an illustrative example. Moreover, it is observed that the implementation of the method is straightforward and smooth.Publisher's Versio

    Get PDF
This study investigated the death anxiety (DA) scores of participants in outdoor-adventure recreational (OAR) activities, and the relationship of the DA scores to several demographic features and experience of DA. The study included 589 individuals with various leisure-time OAR experience levels (131 women, 458 men; Mage=29.79±9.64). Their sports included climbing (n=200), scuba diving (n=142), and paragliding (n=247). DA was measured by the Thorson-Powell Death Anxiety Scale. Overall, the DA scores were low, with no significant differences between OAR activities. However, the DA scores were affected by age and gender, and length of OAR experience. More specifically, the DA scores were highest for 18-28-year-old participants, women, and participants with 4-6 years of middle-level OAR experience. Previous negative DA experiences did not increase the DA scores

Systemic side effects of inhaler corticosteroids (IC) are quite rarely. It is also well known that systemic use of corticosteroids for a long period of time may have diabetogenic effects. In this study, the relationship between use of IC in patients with bronchial asthma and tendency of development of diabetes was investigated via oral glucose tolerance test. Eighty three patients with bronchial asthma and 34 healthy subjects without any known disease as a control group were enrolled the study. Asthma group and control group were similar according to gender, age and BMI. Mean period for the diagnosis of asthma was 8.9±6.4 years, for IC use was 4.2±2.7 years and mean daily dose of IC was 616.66±355.62 µgr. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) for asthma group who were on IC and for control group were 92.96±6.82 mg/dl and 93.05±12.51 mg/dl, respectively. Following 75 gr OGTT, glucose levels for asthma group and control group were 110.21±32.17 mg/dl and 109.08±28.41 mg/dl, respectively. FBG levels and 2-hour glucose levels separately in both groups were not statistically significant (p0.05). In asthma group, correlations between duration of IC use and, FBG and 2-hour glucose levels, and also between dose of IC and FBG and 2-hour glucose levels were evaluated. Statistically significant but mild positive correlation was seen between duration of IC (4.2±2.7 year) use and 2-hour glucose levels (110.21±32.17 mg/dl) (p=0.007, r=0.292). In conclusion, in patients with asthma, mild positive correlation between IC use and 2-hour glucose levels was observed. Our findings may point out that IC use over a long period of time may lead glucose intolerance

SOLUTIONS FOR THE FRACTIONAL MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF DIFFUSION PROCESS

In this research we present two new approaches with Laplace transformation to form the truncated solution of space-time fractional differential equations (STFDE) with mixed boundary conditions. Since order of the fractional derivative of time derivative is taken between zero and one we have a sub-diffusive differential equation. First, we reduce STFDE into either a time or a space fractional differential equation which are easier to deal with. At the second step the Laplace transformation is applied to the reduced problem to obtain truncated solution. At the final step using the inverse transformations, we get the truncated solution of the problem we consider it. Presented examples illustrate the applicability and power of the approaches, used in this study

Objective: Meperidine, a synthetic opioid analgesic, is used empirically in many birth centers due to its effect on the duration of labor as well as pain relief during labor. In this study, we examine the effect of meperidine administration on the duration of labor. Methods: This study was designed as a prospective randomized placebo-controlled study; 250 patients were randomized into two groups where the study group received 0.5 mL-25 mg i.v. meperidine and the control group received 0.5 mL i.v. saline solution, all at the start of the active phase. The start of the active phase of labor was defined as 4 cm cervical dilatation and 60%-70% cervical effacement. The primary outcome was determined as the duration of the active phase (DAP). This study is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT01555671). Results: Women randomized to the meperidine group had a shorter total duration of labor (TDL) and shorter duration of the DAP compared to the control group, both in the total patient population women (mean ± standard deviation (SD): 273±129 min vs. 331±177 min, p=0.033; 249±122 min vs. 304±167 min, p=0.029, respectively) and in primiparous (mean ± SD: 372±134 min vs. 400±179 min, p=0.026; 296±126 min vs. 363±170 min, p=0.024, respectively). No statistically significant difference was found between the total patient population and primiparous group in terms of the second stage of labor (DSS) (p=0.930, p=0.229; respectively). Multiparous women in meperidine and control groups, did not show a statistically significant difference in terms of the TDL, DAP and the DSS (p=0.170, p=0.157, p=0.498; respectively). No statistically significant difference was found between the two study groups in terms of age (p=0.126), parity (p=0.427), body mass index (p=0.163), cesarean rates (p=0.511) and mean gestational weeks (p=0.845). Conclusion: Our findings revealed that meperidine administration was associated with a shorter duration of active phase of labor in primiparous women

This study was conducted to investigate the sexual function status and related factors in women after contracting COVID-19. The study comprised 261 women who had been infected with COVID-19. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Female Sexual Function Scale, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Sub-dimension scores for desire (3.80 ± 1.16, 3.66 ± 1.17), arousal (4.25 ± 1.40, 4.11 ± 1.41), orgasm (4.36 ± 1.25, 4.29 ± 1.26), and sexual satisfaction (4.50 ± 1.49, 4.40 ± 1.49) in women, as well as the Female Sexual Function Scale total score (26.50 ± 6.79, 26.00 ± 6.93), decreased following COVID-19 infection. Moreover, the frequency of weekly intercourse decreased (2.78 ± 0.90; 2.60 ± 0.92) compared to the pre-infection levels, and the frequency of sexual dysfunction increased (FSFI < 26 = 38.7%, 46.0%). In this study, advanced age, high body mass index (BMI) value, low education, income level, unemployment, smoking, lack of physical activity, anxiety, decreased coital frequency, and COVID-19 infection were identified as risk factors for sexual dysfunction. There was no significant relationship between the time elapsed after recovery from COVID-19 and sexual function. In conclusion, this research suggests that COVID-19 infection may lead to sexual dysfunction in women. Based on these research findings, health practitioners should assess the sexual health of female patients who have had COVID-19 infections, ensuring that women feel comfortable discussing their sexual health issues and referring them to appropriate treatment and counseling services when needed
