Coupled equations for Kähler metrics and Yang-Mills connections
We study equations on a principal bundle over a compact complex manifold
coupling a connection on the bundle with a Kahler structure on the base. These
equations generalize the conditions of constant scalar curvature for a Kahler
metric and Hermite-Yang-Mills for a connection. We provide a moment map
interpretation of the equations and study obstructions for the existence of
solutions, generalizing the Futaki invariant, the Mabuchi K-energy and geodesic
stability. We finish by giving some examples of solutions.Comment: 61 pages; v2: introduction partially rewritten; minor corrections and

Softly Broken N=2 QCD with Massive Quark Hypermultiplets, I
We present a general analysis of all the possible soft breakings of N=2
supersymmetric QCD, preserving the analytic properties of the Seiberg-Witten
solutions for the SU(2) group with Nf=1, 2, 3 hypermultiplets. We obtain all
the couplings of the spurion fields in terms of properties of the
Seiberg-Witten periods, which we express in terms of elementary elliptic
functions by uniformizing the elliptic curves associated to each number of
flavors. We analyze in detail the monodromy properties of the softly broken
theory, and obtain them by a particular embedding into a pure gauge theory with
higher rank group. This allows to write explicit expressions of the effective
potential, which are close to the exact answer for moderate values of the
supersymmetry breaking parameters. The vacuum structures and phases of the
broken theories will be analyzed in the forthcoming second part of this paper.Comment: 35 pages, 3 figures, LaTeX file. Minor corrections in a few formulae,

Comparative fluid inclusion studies of the San Martín skarn (Mexico) and the epithermal Comstock Lode (USA) and Pachuca-Real del Monte (Mexico) deposits
The San Martin (Mexico), Pachuca-Real del Monte (Mexico) and Comstock Lode (USA) are base-metal and silver deposits within Cretaceous to Tertiary volcano-sedimentary host rocks. The first is a skarn type deposit whilst the second and third are epithermal vein-type deposits. A fluid inclusion study of quartz, sphalerite and fluorite was undertaken to characterize mineralizing solutions which have different compositions and temperatures. Microthermometric measurements were made based on the recognition of changes of twophase liquid-rich, two-phase vapor-rich and multiphase (NaCl) inclusions during heating and freezing experiments. Homogenization temperatures and salinities of fluid inclusions in quartz and fluorite from San Martin range from 300 to 320 °C and 5.0 to 40 eq. wt. % NaCl based on Tmice and TNaCl. Halite as a daughter mineral is often present in quartz and fluorite. However in the other districts, the Th and salinity values in sphalerite (Pachuca-Real) and quartz (Comstock) are lower: 265 °C and 3.4 % eq. wt. NaCl and 251 °C and 0.3 eq. wt. % NaCl respectively. Data from a single zoned quartz crystal provides evidence of fluid evolution at the Comstock Lode. Temperatures and salinities observed were 249 °C and 0.6 eq wt % NaCl at the core and 245 °C and 0.1 eq wt % NaCl at the rim. The salinity and temperature of the hydrothermal brines seems to be an important factor in explaining the precipitation of the ore minerals. These deposits are characterized by temperatures <350 °C and salinities from 0.2 to 4.93 wt % eq. NaCl. Estimated pressures and depths range from 41 to 103 bars and 472 to 1394 meters
Three-body decays: structure, decay mechanism and fragment properties
We discuss the three-body decay mechanisms of many-body resonances. R-matrix
sequential description is compared with full Faddeev computation. The role of
the angular momentum and boson symmetries is also studied. As an illustration
we show the computed -particle energy distribution after the decay of
12C(1^+) resonance at 12.7 MeV.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. Proceedings of the workshop "Critical Stability

Decay of low-lying 12C resonances within a 3alpha cluster model
We compute energy distributions of three -particles emerging from the
decay of C resonances by means of the hyperspherical adiabatic expansion
method combined with complex scaling. The large distance continuum properties
of the wave functions are crucial and must be accurately calculated. The
substantial changes from small to large distances determine the decay
mechanisms. We illustrate by computing the energy distributions from decays of
the and -resonances in C. These states are dominated by
direct and sequential decays into the three-body continuum respectively.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Proceedings of the Clusters '07 conference held

históricos de la relación hombre-animal;
In the past years a sustained issue has been
generated between certain activists groups
and scientific institutions regarding the use
of animals in the biological research. A
revision of the historical aspects about the
interaction of humans and animals in the
past clearly revealed abominable abuses to
animals. However, in the present times the
evolution of bioethics and the generation of
scientific information have put into evidence
a significant change in the human attitudes
to animals in biological research. However,
the activist’s claims have generated distorted
ideas regarding the use of animals in
experimental research, mainly due to the
dogmatic character of their arguments, and
the propagation of a stereotyped vision
about research procedures and researcher’s
attitudes to animals use. In the present
revision, history aspects about the
relationship of human-animal in the evolving
society; discussion about the context and
beliefs of the society at that time; critical
review about the 3 Rs of Rusell and Burch
historical landmark in the humane
experimental techniques, and presentation
of scientific arguments justifying use of
animals in biological research are
considered.

cerebro.Learning can be considered a process that gave to living systems a significant
evolutionary advance in the history of life. The capacity to distinguish that events in the environment have “past" or “present" permitted the primitive evolving organisms to acquire a convenient enriched vision of the their surrounding world. The appropriate use of the information available as experience in an organism now it is known as learning. In spite of many years of intense research, the complete understanding of memory and learning still is not clear. Debate and disagreements about the intrinsic nature of this neural process in the scientific community did not help in these years to sediment a clear-cut knowledge about this important brain function. Part of these issues appears to be linked to the semantic use of some terms implying different meanings to different investigators, and the strong belief in interpretations about learning that in time has been considered dogmas. In the present work, intent to emphasize the meaning of many terms by limiting its significance and extending an alternative point of view previously presented elsewhere, about memory and learning is done.Fil: Álvarez, Edgardo O..

Nuclear shape dependence of Gamow-Teller distributions in neutron-deficient Pb isotopes
We study Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the neutron-deficient even
isotopes (184-194)Pb in a search for signatures of deformation. The microscopic
formalism used is based on a deformed quasiparticle random phase approximation
(QRPA) approach, which involves a self-consistent quasiparticle deformed Skyrme
Hartree-Fock (HF) basis and residual spin-isospin forces in both the
particle-hole and particle-particle channels. By analyzing the sensitivity of
the Gamow-Teller strength distributions to the various ingredients in the
formalism, we conclude that the beta-decay of these isotopes could be a useful
tool to look for fingerprints of nuclear deformation.Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures. To be published in Physical Review
