Sex, dementia, capacity and care homes
This paper addresses the appropriate legal and policy approach to sexual conduct involving people with dementia in care homes, where the mental capacity of one or both partners is compromised. Such conduct is prohibited by sections 34–42 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, but this article asks whether this blanket prohibition is necessarily the appropriate response. The article considers a variety of alternative responses, eventually arguing that clearer guidance regarding prosecution should be issued

Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the accuracy of predicting 24-hour milk yield and composition from a single morning (AM) or evening (PM) milk weight and composition. A calibration dataset of 37,481 test-day records with both AM and PM yields and composition was used to generate the prediction equations; equations were validated using 4,644 test-day records. Prediction models were developed within stage of lactation and parity while accounting for the inter-milking time interval. The mean correlation between the predicted 24-hour yields and composition of milk, fat and protein and the respective actual values was 0.97 when based on just an AM milk yield and composition with a mean correlation of 0.95 when based on just a PM milk yield and composition. The regression of predicted 24-hour yield and composition on the respective actual values varied from 0.97 to 1.01 with the exception of 24-hour fat percentage predicted from a PM sample (1.06). A single AM sample is useful to predict 24-hour milk yield and composition when the milking interval is known
Renormalization of the tunnel splitting in a rotating nanomagnet
We study spin tunneling in a magnetic nanoparticle with biaxial anisotropy
that is free to rotate about its anisotropy axis. Exact instanton of the
coupled equations of motion is found that connects degenerate classical energy
minima. We show that mechanical freedom of the particle renormalizes magnetic

Open Practices in Academic Professional Development Programmes
In this reflective practice work, we will examine critically the process of evaluating and redesigning academic professional development programmes through the lens of open educational practices and resources. For over 15 years, the DIT’s Learning Teaching and Technology Centre (LTTC) has offered a suite of accredited postgraduate programmes and modules for staff. Demand for these programmes and modules has increased since 2013 with 187 participants graduating and a further 221 completing modules for continuing professional development (CPD). DIT was the first higher education institution (HEI) in Ireland to state a requirement that newly appointed lecturers complete a postgraduate qualification in teaching and learning. During 2018, formal evaluation and review of these programmes has taken place, and we are now redesigning and revalidating our offerings. The evaluation and redesign process has followed a formal methodology inclusive of a desk study, data collection with graduates and other stakeholders, an institutional quality assurance review and ongoing reflection by the team
EUV ionization of pure He nanodroplets: Mass-correlated photoelectron imaging, Penning ionization and electron energy-loss spectra
The ionization dynamics of pure He nanodroplets irradiated by EUV radiation
is studied using Velocity-Map Imaging PhotoElectron-PhotoIon COincidence
(VMI-PEPICO) spectroscopy. We present photoelectron energy spectra and angular
distributions measured in coincidence with the most abundant ions He+, He2+,
and He3+. Surprisingly, below the autoionization threshold of He droplets we
find indications for multiple excitation and subsequent ionization of the
droplets by a Penning-like process. At high photon energies we evidence
inelastic collisions of photoelectrons with the surrounding He atoms in the
droplets
Short-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy with a depressed adolescent with borderline personality disorder: an empirical, single case study
While clinical descriptions of psychotherapy with depressed adolescents with traits of borderline functioning exist, they are not yet supported by empirically-grounded research. This single-case study aims to identify meaningful therapist-patient interaction in the course of short-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy with an adolescent girl who meets diagnostic criteria for both Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Twenty-eight sessions of psychotherapy were coded, using the Adolescent Psychotherapy Q-Set. Five interaction structures were identified, which were distinguished by the nature of the adolescent’s emotional expression during sessions, and how the therapist responded to the young person. Exploration of the clinical and theoretical meaning of these interaction structures suggests that core elements of a young person’s depression and borderline functioning can be identified in sessions, and that the therapeutic process overall shows some significant departures from some of what is usually recognised as a typical psychoanalytic approach. The paper discusses whether these changes in technique can be understood as responses to the clinical challenges associated with working with adolescents with borderline features
Sensitivity of nonlinear photoionization to resonance substructure in collective excitation
Collective behaviour is a characteristic feature in many-body systems, important for developments in fields such as magnetism, superconductivity, photonics and electronics. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the optically nonlinear response of collective excitations. Here we demonstrate how the nonlinear interaction of a many-body system with intense XUV radiation can be used as an effective probe for characterizing otherwise unresolved features of its collective response. Resonant photoionization of atomic xenon was chosen as a case study. The excellent agreement between experiment and theory strongly supports the prediction that two distinct poles underlie the giant dipole resonance. Our results pave the way towards a deeper understanding of collective behaviour in atoms, molecules and solid-state systems using nonlinear spectroscopic techniques enabled by modern short-wavelength light sources
