Support for Evolving Software Architectures in the ArchWare ADL
Software that cannot evolve is condemned to atrophy: it cannot accommodate
the constant revision and re-negotiation of its business goals nor intercept
the potential of new technology. To accommodate change in software systems we
have defined an active software architecture to be: dynamic in that the
structure and cardinality of the components and interactions are changeable
during execution; updatable in that components can be replaced; decomposable in
that an executing system may be (partially) stopped and split up into its
components and interactions; and reflective in that the specification of
components and interactions may be evolved during execution. Here we describe
the facilities of the ArchWare architecture description language (ADL) for
specifying active architectures. The contribution of the work is the unique
combination of concepts including: a {\pi}-calculus based communication and
expression language for specifying executable architectures; hyper-code as an
underlying representation of system execution that can be used for
introspection; a decomposition operator to incrementally break up executing
systems; and structural reflection for creating new components and binding them
into running systems.Comment: 4th Working IEEE/IFIP Conference on Software Architecture (WICSA'04)

Architecting Pervasive Computing Systems for Privacy: A Survey
International audienceIn pervasive computing systems, a higher number of interactions will be mediated by computers, amplifying the menace to privacy. Privacy protection in pervasive environments is still a big issue, despite the growing number of works on this subject as evidenced by this survey. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy for privacy invasion attacks, classify existing privacy enhancing technologies according to the protection provided for those attacks, and introduce a service-oriented privacy-enhanced architecture for pervasive computing
Factors affecting Technical Debt Raw data from a systematic literature map
"This document presents the complete list of references that have been short listed during the systematic review process carried out during the months of April-September 2012. The objective of the systematic review was to identify current research trends in technical debt and to explore the relationship between technical debt measures and agile software development. This documents includes 352 references that are categorized according to their relevance to technical debt research." [Abstract
Automatic architectural enforcement
Automatic architectural enforcement would be very beneficial especially in product line development using open source practices where there is very limited or no access to the architects and the architecture is of paramount importance. However, current techniques for modelling software architecture do not support the modelling of architectural design rules which means that architectural enforcement is achieved by manual reviews. This paper addresses this problem by proposing how architectural design rules could be expressed in UML in a meta-model for the system model
Reasoning and Reuse in Software Architecture Design: Practices in the Argentine Industry
Over the last years, software architecture design has gained significant importance in both, industrial and research areas due to its relevance in the software system development process. In this context, special attention has been given to the documentation of architects’ reasoning during an architectural design, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of this activity. This work intends to present a view of architects’ practices in the Argentine industry regarding reasoning documentation and its subsequent use and access.Fil: Carignano, Maria Celeste.
