Analysis of the effect of mobile terminal speed on WLAN/3G vertical handovers

of services across heterogeneous access. However, to achieve this, some aspects still need to be analyzed. In particular, the effect of the terminal speed on the detection and selection process of the preferred access network is not yet well understood. In
fact, efficiency of vertical handovers depends on the appropriate configuration of mobile devices. In this paper we present a
simulation study of handover performance between 3G and WLAN access networks showing the impact of mobile users’ speed. The mobile devices are based on the IEEE 802.21 cross
layer architecture and use WLAN signal level thresholds as handover criteria. A novel algorithm to dynamically adjust terminals’ configuration is presented.Publicad

An overview of link-level measurement techniques for wide-area wireless networks
By building wireless link-level measurement tools we hope to improvement the design, deployment and management of wide-area wireless community networks. This paper identifies existing link-level measurement techniques and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each in the context of measuring and monitoring such networks. Finally, we make a case for the need for more sophisticated techniques and tools which will assist both day-to-day network operations as well as wireless network research
China’s WAPI Policy: Security Measure or Trade Protectionism?
In December of 2003, the Chinese government announced that all WLAN equipment sold in China must conform to a propriety standard called WAPI, rather than the internationally accepted Wi-Fi standard. Moreover, for foreign firms to gain access to WAPI technology, they would need to partner with one of two-dozen Chinese firms designated by the Chinese government. The policy ostensibly grew out of security concerns regarding Wi-Fi, although it is unclear whether WAPI is more secure. Beijing has now indefinitely postponed the implementation of this policy, but WAPI is still relevant. This iBrief argues that WAPI is illustrative of many Chinese technical barriers to trade in the high-tech sector, and evaluates this policy\u27s consistency with China\u27s WTO obligations
