Geospatial dashboards for intelligent multimodal traffic management
This paper presents the current status and future outlook of Traffic Management as a Service (TMaaS). TMaaS is an innovative web platform that provides a cloud-based vendor-neutral multimodal traffic management solution for small and medium-sized cities. Know Thy Toucher
Most of current academic and commercial surface computing systems are capable of multitouch detection and hence allow simultaneous input from multiple users. Although there are so far only few applications in this area which rely on identifying the user, we believe that the association of touches to users will become an essential feature of surface computing as applications mature, new application areas emerge, and the enabling technology is readily available. As the capacitive technology used in present user identification enabled tabletops is limited with respect to the supported number of users and screen size, we outline a user identification enabled tabletop concept based on computer vision and biometric hand shape information, and introduce the prototype system we built to further investigate this concept. In a preliminary consideration, we derive concepts for identifying users by examining what new possibilities are enabled and by introducing different scopes of identification
Sensing and visualizing spatial relations of mobile devices
Location information can be used to enhance interaction with mobile devices. While many location systems require instrumentation of the environment, we present a system that allows devices to measure their spatial relations in a true peer-to-peer fashion. The system is based on custom sensor hardware implemented as USB dongle, and computes spatial relations in real-time. In extension of this system we propose a set of spatialized widgets for incorporation of spatial relations in the user interface. The use of these widgets is illustrated in a number of applications, showing how spatial relations can be employed to support and streamline interaction with mobile devices
The Ubiquitous Interactor - Device Independent Access to Mobile Services
The Ubiquitous Interactor (UBI) addresses the problems of design and
development that arise around services that need to be accessed from many
different devices. In UBI, the same service can present itself with different
user interfaces on different devices. This is done by separating interaction
between users and services from presentation. The interaction is kept the same
for all devices, and different presentation information is provided for
different devices. This way, tailored user interfaces for many different
devices can be created without multiplying development and maintenance work. In
this paper we describe the system design of UBI, the system implementation, and
two services implemented for the system: a calendar service and a stockbroker

Towards a middleware for generalised context management
It is widely accepted in the Pervasive Computing community that contextual interactions are the key to the delivery of truly calm technology. However, there is currently no easy way to incorporate contextual data into an application. If contextual data is used, it is generally in an ad hoc manner, which means that developers have to spend time on low-level details. There have been many projects investigating this area, however as yet none of them provide support for all of the key issues of dynamic composition and flexible representation of contextual information as well as the problems of scalability and adaptability to environmental changes.
