Resource allocation for transmit hybrid beamforming in decoupled millimeter wave multiuser-MIMO downlink
This paper presents a study on joint radio resource allocation and hybrid precoding in multicarrier massive multiple-input multiple-output communications for 5G cellular networks. In this paper, we present the resource allocation algorithm to maximize the proportional fairness (PF) spectral efficiency under the per subchannel power and the beamforming rank constraints. Two heuristic algorithms are designed. The proportional fairness hybrid beamforming algorithm provides the transmit precoder with a proportional fair spectral efficiency among users for the desired number of radio-frequency (RF) chains. Then, we transform the number of RF chains or rank constrained optimization problem into convex semidefinite programming (SDP) problem, which can be solved by standard techniques. Inspired by the formulated convex SDP problem, a low-complexity, two-step, PF-relaxed optimization algorithm has been provided for the formulated convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed suboptimal solution to the relaxed optimization problem is near-optimal for the signal-to-noise ratio SNR <= 10 dB and has a performance gap not greater than 2.33 b/s/Hz within the SNR range 0-25 dB. It also outperforms the maximum throughput and PF-based hybrid beamforming schemes for sum spectral efficiency, individual spectral efficiency, and fairness index
Asynchronous CDMA Systems with Random Spreading-Part I: Fundamental Limits
Spectral efficiency for asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA)
with random spreading is calculated in the large system limit allowing for
arbitrary chip waveforms and frequency-flat fading. Signal to interference and
noise ratios (SINRs) for suboptimal receivers, such as the linear minimum mean
square error (MMSE) detectors, are derived. The approach is general and
optionally allows even for statistics obtained by under-sampling the received
signal.
All performance measures are given as a function of the chip waveform and the
delay distribution of the users in the large system limit. It turns out that
synchronizing users on a chip level impairs performance for all chip waveforms
with bandwidth greater than the Nyquist bandwidth, e.g., positive roll-off
factors. For example, with the pulse shaping demanded in the UMTS standard,
user synchronization reduces spectral efficiency up to 12% at 10 dB normalized
signal-to-noise ratio. The benefits of asynchronism stem from the finding that
the excess bandwidth of chip waveforms actually spans additional dimensions in
signal space, if the users are de-synchronized on the chip-level. The analysis
of linear MMSE detectors shows that the limiting interference effects can be
decoupled both in the user domain and in the frequency domain such that the
concept of the effective interference spectral density arises. This generalizes
and refines Tse and Hanly's concept of effective interference.
In Part II, the analysis is extended to any linear detector that admits a
representation as multistage detector and guidelines for the design of low
complexity multistage detectors with universal weights are provided
Linear Precoding Designs for Amplify-and-Forward Multiuser Two-Way Relay Systems
Two-way relaying can improve spectral efficiency in two-user cooperative
communications. It also has great potential in multiuser systems. A major
problem of designing a multiuser two-way relay system (MU-TWRS) is transceiver
or precoding design to suppress co-channel interference. This paper aims to
study linear precoding designs for a cellular MU-TWRS where a multi-antenna
base station (BS) conducts bi-directional communications with multiple mobile
stations (MSs) via a multi-antenna relay station (RS) with amplify-and-forward
relay strategy. The design goal is to optimize uplink performance, including
total mean-square error (Total-MSE) and sum rate, while maintaining individual
signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) requirement for downlink
signals. We show that the BS precoding design with the RS precoder fixed can be
converted to a standard second order cone programming (SOCP) and the optimal
solution is obtained efficiently. The RS precoding design with the BS precoder
fixed, on the other hand, is non-convex and we present an iterative algorithm
to find a local optimal solution. Then, the joint BS-RS precoding is obtained
by solving the BS precoding and the RS precoding alternately. Comprehensive
simulation is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed
precoding designs.Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures, Accepted by IEEE TW
A Data-Aided Channel Estimation Scheme for Decoupled Systems in Heterogeneous Networks
Uplink/downlink (UL/DL) decoupling promises more flexible cell association
and higher throughput in heterogeneous networks (HetNets), however, it hampers
the acquisition of DL channel state information (CSI) in time-division-duplex
(TDD) systems due to different base stations (BSs) connected in UL/DL. In this
paper, we propose a novel data-aided (DA) channel estimation scheme to address
this problem by utilizing decoded UL data to exploit CSI from received UL data
signal in decoupled HetNets where a massive multiple-input multiple-output BS
and dense small cell BSs are deployed. We analytically estimate BER performance
of UL decoded data, which are used to derive an approximated normalized mean
square error (NMSE) expression of the DA minimum mean square error (MMSE)
estimator. Compared with the conventional least square (LS) and MMSE, it is
shown that NMSE performances of all estimators are determined by their
signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-like terms and there is an increment consisting of
UL data power, UL data length and BER values in the SNR-like term of DA method,
which suggests DA method outperforms the conventional ones in any scenarios.
Higher UL data power, longer UL data length and better BER performance lead to
more accurate estimated channels with DA method. Numerical results verify that
the analytical BER and NMSE results are close to the simulated ones and a
remarkable gain in both NMSE and DL rate can be achieved by DA method in
multiple scenarios with different modulations
On the distribution of an effective channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO
Accurate channel estimation is of utmost importance for massive MIMO systems to provide significant improvements in spectral and energy efficiency. In this work, we present a study on the distribution of a simple but yet effective and practical channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO systems suffering from pilot-contamination. The proposed channel estimator performs well under moderate to aggressive pilot contamination scenarios without previous knowledge of the inter-cell large-scale channel coefficients and noise power, asymptotically approximating the performance of the linear MMSE estimator as the number of antennas increases. We prove that the distribution of the proposed channel estimator can be accurately approximated by the circularly-symmetric complex normal distribution, when the number of antennas, M, deployed at the base station is greater than 10
