The future of software engineering: Visions of 2025 and beyond
In the current technological scenario of the industry and businesses, there has been increasing need of software within systems and also an increasing demand being put onto software-intensive systems. This in effect will lead to a significant evolution of software engineering processes over the next twenty years. This is due to the fact of emerging technological advancements like Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things in the IT field, among other new developments. This paper addresses and tries to analyses the key research challenges being faced by the software engineering field and articulates information that is derived from the key research specializations within software engineering. The paper analyses the past and current trends in software engineering. The future of software engineering is also looked with respect to Industry 4.0 which including emerging technological platforms like Internet of Things. The societal impact aspect of future trends in software engineering is also addressed in this paper
The Smartphone as the Incumbent “Thing” among the Internet of Things
The smartphone has been the ubiquitous computing platform in the past decade. However, emerging consumer Internet of Things (IoT) technology trends, such as smartwatches and smart speakers, promise the establishment of new ubiquitous platforms. We model two competing horizontally-differentiated platforms that each offer a smartphone and another smart device. This market diverges markedly from standard mixed bundling results when devices from the same vendor have super-additive utility. We show that the degree of a smart device’s differentiation (relative to the smartphone) is the prime factor determining if it is profitable to deepen integration between a smart device with the incumbent smartphone platform. We provide managerial insights for technology strategy
Embedded System Design
A unique feature of this open access textbook is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental knowledge in embedded systems, with applications in cyber-physical systems and the Internet of things. It starts with an introduction to the field and a survey of specification models and languages for embedded and cyber-physical systems. It provides a brief overview of hardware devices used for such systems and presents the essentials of system software for embedded systems, including real-time operating systems. The author also discusses evaluation and validation techniques for embedded systems and provides an overview of techniques for mapping applications to execution platforms, including multi-core platforms. Embedded systems have to operate under tight constraints and, hence, the book also contains a selected set of optimization techniques, including software optimization techniques. The book closes with a brief survey on testing. This fourth edition has been updated and revised to reflect new trends and technologies, such as the importance of cyber-physical systems (CPS) and the Internet of things (IoT), the evolution of single-core processors to multi-core processors, and the increased importance of energy efficiency and thermal issues

Digital Supply Chain Management in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry: Trends and Prospects
Abstract— The article discusses the basics of the digital supply chain management, its characteristic features and scope of application are covered. The analysis of a condition of development of digital supply chain management in the world reflecting growth of its share in gross domestic product, and the Russian Federation for which characteristic is the state initiative of advance and development of digital processes, but not business structures is carried out. The role of the Internet of things within digitalization of supply chain management is considered, in this regard the optimistic and conservative forecast of structure of the market of the Internet of things till 2025 is submitted. In work characteristic of information space of the sphere of tourism is given, the digital services and platforms which were widely adopted and succeeded offices of the tourist companies are described. The offered model of the digital platform for the sphere of tourism and hospitality of the Russian Federation «Tourism 4.0» with the description of the principles, characteristic of it, can be provided as a result of a combination of key technological capabilities, namely artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, robotization, voice technologies, a supply chain management. The presented «digital funnel» reflects the place of the tourism and hospitality industry among the participants in the digitalization market. Results of a research allowed to distinguish the factors constraining and keeping development of modern technologies in the industry, to reveal trends and regularities in the short term
Personal learning environments in the European Higher Education
Si deseamos tener enseñanza de calidad a través de plataformas de teleaprendizaje debemos evaluar la funcionalidad, los aspectos técnicos y estéticos y los aspectos pedagógicos de las plataformas utilizadasToday, there are many training platforms, some of which that do not always have what distance learning institutions need. The aim of this paper is to analyze the important aspects which need to be considered when selecting a good platform for online training, based on the latest trends in higher education. For this purpose, the article discusses the importance of the Internet for distance learning, teacher observation, and competency assessment. It also discusses the things to consider in evaluating the platforms. If we want to have quality education through distance learning platforms, we must evaluate the functionality of the platform: its technical, esthetic and educational aspect
The Emerging Internet of Things Marketplace From an Industrial Perspective: A Survey
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a dynamic global information network
consisting of internet-connected objects, such as Radio-frequency
identification (RFIDs), sensors, actuators, as well as other instruments and
smart appliances that are becoming an integral component of the future
internet. Over the last decade, we have seen a large number of the IoT
solutions developed by start-ups, small and medium enterprises, large
corporations, academic research institutes (such as universities), and private
and public research organisations making their way into the market. In this
paper, we survey over one hundred IoT smart solutions in the marketplace and
examine them closely in order to identify the technologies used,
functionalities, and applications. More importantly, we identify the trends,
opportunities and open challenges in the industry-based the IoT solutions.
Based on the application domain, we classify and discuss these solutions under
five different categories: smart wearable, smart home, smart, city, smart
environment, and smart enterprise. This survey is intended to serve as a
guideline and conceptual framework for future research in the IoT and to
motivate and inspire further developments. It also provides a systematic
exploration of existing research and suggests a number of potentially
significant research directions.Comment: IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing 201
