Challenges for the comprehensive management of cloud services in a PaaS framework
The 4CaaSt project aims at developing a PaaS framework that enables flexible definition, marketing, deployment and management of Cloud-based services and applications. The major innovations proposed by 4CaaSt are the blueprint and its lifecycle management, a one stop shop for Cloud services and a PaaS level resource management featuring elasticity. 4CaaSt also provides a portfolio of ready to use Cloud native services and Cloud-aware immigrant technologies
Autonomic Cloud Computing: Open Challenges and Architectural Elements
As Clouds are complex, large-scale, and heterogeneous distributed systems,
management of their resources is a challenging task. They need automated and
integrated intelligent strategies for provisioning of resources to offer
services that are secure, reliable, and cost-efficient. Hence, effective
management of services becomes fundamental in software platforms that
constitute the fabric of computing Clouds. In this direction, this paper
identifies open issues in autonomic resource provisioning and presents
innovative management techniques for supporting SaaS applications hosted on
Clouds. We present a conceptual architecture and early results evidencing the
benefits of autonomic management of Clouds.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, conference keynote pape
Cloudbus Toolkit for Market-Oriented Cloud Computing
This keynote paper: (1) presents the 21st century vision of computing and
identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver computing as a utility;
(2) defines the architecture for creating market-oriented Clouds and computing
atmosphere by leveraging technologies such as virtual machines; (3) provides
thoughts on market-based resource management strategies that encompass both
customer-driven service management and computational risk management to sustain
SLA-oriented resource allocation; (4) presents the work carried out as part of
our new Cloud Computing initiative, called Cloudbus: (i) Aneka, a Platform as a
Service software system containing SDK (Software Development Kit) for
construction of Cloud applications and deployment on private or public Clouds,
in addition to supporting market-oriented resource management; (ii)
internetworking of Clouds for dynamic creation of federated computing
environments for scaling of elastic applications; (iii) creation of 3rd party
Cloud brokering services for building content delivery networks and e-Science
applications and their deployment on capabilities of IaaS providers such as
Amazon along with Grid mashups; (iv) CloudSim supporting modelling and
simulation of Clouds for performance studies; (v) Energy Efficient Resource
Allocation Mechanisms and Techniques for creation and management of Green
Clouds; and (vi) pathways for future research.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables, Conference pape
A Cloud Platform-as-a-Service for Multimedia Conferencing Service Provisioning
Multimedia conferencing is the real-time exchange of multimedia content
between multiple parties. It is the basis of a wide range of applications
(e.g., multimedia multiplayer game). Cloud-based provisioning of the
conferencing services on which these applications rely will bring benefits,
such as easy service provisioning and elastic scalability. However, it remains
a big challenge. This paper proposes a PaaS for conferencing service
provisioning. The proposed PaaS is based on a business model from the state of
the art. It relies on conferencing IaaSs that, instead of VMs, offer
conferencing substrates (e.g., dial-in signaling, video mixer and audio mixer).
The PaaS enables composition of new conferences from substrates on the fly.
This has been prototyped in this paper and, in order to evaluate it, a
conferencing IaaS is also implemented. Performance measurements are also made.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, IEEE ISCC 201
Towards a unified management of applications on heterogeneous clouds
J. Carrasco, F. Durán y E. Pimentel. "Towards a Unified Management of Applications on Heterogeneous Clouds". Proceedings of the PhD Symposium at the 5th European Conference on Service-Oriented and Cloud Computing. G. Zavattaro and W. Zimmermann (eds). University Halle-Wittenberg. Technical Report 2016/02, 40-47. 2016.The diversity in the way cloud providers o↵er their services, give their SLAs, present their QoS, or support di↵erent technologies, makes very difficult the portability and interoperability of cloud applications, and favours the well-known vendor lock-in problem. We propose a model to describe cloud applications and the required resources in an agnostic, and providers- and resources-independent way, in which individual application modules, and entire applications, may be re-deployed using different services without modification. To support this model, and after the proposal of a variety of cross-cloud application management tools by
different authors, we propose going one step further in the unification of cloud services with a management approach in which IaaS and PaaS
services are integrated into a unified interface. We provide support for deploying applications whose components are distributed on different
cloud providers, indistinctly using IaaS and PaaS services.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Component-wise application migration in bidimensional cross-cloud environments
We propose an algorithm for the migration of cloud applications' components between different providers, possibly changing their service level between IaaS and PaaS. Our solution relies on three of the key ingredients of the trans-cloud approach: a unified API, agnostic topology descriptions, and mechanisms for the independent specification of providers. We show how our
approach allows us to overcome some of the current interoperability and portability issues of cloud environments to propose a solution for migration,
present an implementation of our proposed solution, and illustrate it with a case study and experimental results.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Towards A Well-Secured Electronic Health Record in the Health Cloud
The major concerns for most cloud implementers particularly in the health care industry have remained data security
and privacy. A prominent and major threat that constitutes a hurdle for practitioners within the health industry from exploiting and
benefiting from the gains of cloud computing is the fear of theft of patients health data in the cloud. Investigations and surveys
have revealed that most practitioners in the health care industry are concerned about the risk of health data mix-up amongst the
various cloud providers, hacking to comprise the cloud platform and theft of vital patients’ health data.An overview of the
diverse issues relating to health data privacy and overall security in the cloud are presented in this technical report. Based on
identifed secure access requirements, an encryption-based eHR security model for securing and enforcing authorised access to
electronic health data (records), eHR is also presented. It highlights three core functionalities for managing issues relating to
health data privacy and security of eHR in health care cloud
