Data-Driven Application Maintenance: Views from the Trenches
In this paper we present our experience during design, development, and pilot
deployments of a data-driven machine learning based application maintenance
solution. We implemented a proof of concept to address a spectrum of
interrelated problems encountered in application maintenance projects including
duplicate incident ticket identification, assignee recommendation, theme
mining, and mapping of incidents to business processes. In the context of IT
services, these problems are frequently encountered, yet there is a gap in
bringing automation and optimization. Despite long-standing research around
mining and analysis of software repositories, such research outputs are not
adopted well in practice due to the constraints these solutions impose on the
users. We discuss need for designing pragmatic solutions with low barriers to
adoption and addressing right level of complexity of problems with respect to

Methodological Development of the Interactive INTERLINKS Framework for Long Term Care
There is increasing international research into health and social care services for older people in need of long-term care (LTC), but problems remain with respect to acquiring robust comparative information to enable judgements to be made regarding the most beneficial and cost-effective approaches. The project ‘INTERLINKS’ (‘Health systems and LTC for older people in Europe’) funded by the EU 7th Framework programme was developed to address the challenges associated with the accumulation and comparison of evidence in LTC across Europe. It developed a concept and method to describe and analyse LTC and its links with the health and social care system through the accumulation of policy and practice examples on an interactive web-based framework for LTC. This paper provides a critical overview of the theoretical and methodological approaches used to develop and implement the INTERLINKS Framework for LTC, with the aim of providing some guidance to researchers in this area. INTERLINKS has made a significant contribution to knowledge but robust evidence and comparability across European countries remain problematic due to the current and growing complexity and diversity of integrated LTC implementation

Aligning a Service Provisioning Model of a Service-Oriented System with the ITIL v.3 Life Cycle
Bringing together the ICT and the business layer of a service-oriented system
(SoS) remains a great challenge. Few papers tackle the management of SoS from
the business and organizational point of view. One solution is to use the
well-known ITIL v.3 framework. The latter enables to transform the organization
into a service-oriented organizational which focuses on the value provided to
the service customers. In this paper, we align the steps of the service
provisioning model with the ITIL v.3 processes. The alignment proposed should
help organizations and IT teams to integrate their ICT layer, represented by
the SoS, and their business layer, represented by ITIL v.3. One main advantage
of this combined use of ITIL and a SoS is the full service orientation of the

Analysing Regional Sustainability Through a Systemic Approach: The Lombardy Case Study
The intrinsic complexity of the sustainability concept challenges research towards more sophisticated ways to model and assess the dimensions underlying it. However, currently adopted modelling techniques and indicators frameworks are not able to give an integrated assessment through the different components of sustainability, providing incomplete visuals of the reality that they aim to catch. This paper tries to assess how the INSURE methodology can provide a contribution in the analysis of sustainability through indicator frameworks, describing its application to the Lombardy region (Italy). Developed on the course of a 6th European Framework Program – financed project to measure sustainability in the European regions, the methodology provides two distinct sustainability representations, based on a quantitative “top-down” System Dynamics model and on a qualitative “bottom-up” System Thinking approach. The models are then linked to a hierarchical indicator framework setting policy priorities. The overall objective is thus to create a set of regional indicators, adapting the models of regional sustainability to different policy agendas. The purpose of the paper is twofold: defining a new approach to sustainability appraisal, and assessing how the Region is holistically behaving towards sustainable development. Starting from a basis analysis of the main shortcomings highlighted by the use of most adopted methodologies, the paper will verify the contribution given by the INSURE methodology to research in the fields of modelling and indicators approaches, providing insights over methodological adjustments and the results obtained from the application to Lombardy. The conclusions will show how the methodology has tried to overcome identified constraints in current models, like the strong dependence on existing datasets of the obtained representations, the under-coverage of “immaterial factors” role and the scarce integration between sustainability dimensions.ustainable Development, Regional Economics, Econometric and Input Output Models, Development Planning and Policy, Regional Analyses
Catalysts of university social responsability into strategic planning by thematic analysis and deductive coding
The relevance of higher education institutions (HEI) for social development is
unquestionable because of their potential for contributing intellectual solutions for
the social, economic, and environmental welfare of society. The current study
aims to: 1) examine which are the main catalysts of university social responsibility
(USR) from a strategic management perspective; 2) show the relations among
those catalysts through semantic networks; and 3) analyse the role of university
promotion of entrepreneurship. The method uses a content analysis in a sample of
23 universities and examines the subject and codes to clarify the catalysts. The
semantic networks are shown to reveal these connections. It was found that a high
percentage of universities orient their efforts towards enhancing the employability
of students, mainly through entrepreneurial projects intended to achieve social
