Begining of Baroque Tendencies in the Serbian Illustrated Books Stemmatographia: Analysis Portrait of Emperor Dusan beween Chronos and Minerva
Stemmatographia is one of the most valuable books that the Serbs issued in the 18th century. By its scope it is not so great, but this book marked the beginning of the Baroque tendency for the Serbs, and also expressed the contemporary cultural and national-political aspirations of the Serbian people in Austria. Socio-historical circumstances have played a major role in the issuing Stemmatographia. This manuscript was created shortly after the Belgrade peace treaty of 1739 when Serbia once again fell under theTurkish rule
Emperor Charles V as patron of the visual arts
The art commissions of Charles V about which we have sorne detailed information do not support recent claims that he was an active patron who had a personal impact on the visual arts and used them to fashion his own «imperial image». The works «he ordered made» can often be described as «titular» or «institutional» rather than personal commissions. The initial ímpetus usually carne from vassals and the works were almost always supervised and determined in style and in specific form by others. The few commissions he clearly initiated and supervised do not reveal a personal aesthetics nor an image-making intent. That was left to his subjects.

King Rother
Originally published in 1962, Robert Lichtenstein's translation of "King Rother" made the medieval epic available to English-speaking audiences for the first time. His translation in rhymed couplets seeks to convey the humorous spirit of the original and an introduction places the poem in its historical context
Learning Bushidō From Abroad: Japanese Reactions To The Last Samurai
Hollywood, struck by a case of Japan "fever" in the early 21st century, churned
out a crop of Japan-oriented films such as Lost in Translation [Coppola 2003],
Kill Bill Vol. 2 [Tarantino 2004], Memoirs of a Geisha [Marshall 2005] and
Letters from Iwo Jima [Eastwood 2006]. But among all these, The Last Samurai
[Zwick 2003] received the most positive Japanese audience reaction. This film,
about an ex-Civil War American soldier who takes up arms to fight with the last
of the samurai, played to mixed reviews in the U.S. but enjoyed a wildly popular
reception in Japan. Judging from Japanese online discussion posts and media
articles, many Japanese audiences read the film differently from the American
critics. Why and what do these reviews tell us about Japan in the beginning of the
21st century? By being a foreign film, The Last Samurai allowed Japanese
audiences to celebrate the nationalist messages taboo in a domestically produced
film
