Application of optimum-path forest classifier for synthetic material porosity segmentation

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new application and evaluation of the Optimum-Path Forest (OPF) classifier to accomplish synthetic material porosity segmentation and quantification obtained from optical microscopic images. Sample images of a synthetic material were analyzed and the quality of the results was confirmed by human visual analysis. Additionally, the OPF results were compared against two different Support Vector Machines approaches, confirming the OPF superior fast and reliable qualities for this analysis purpose. Thus, the Optimum-Path Forest classier demonstrated to be a valid and adequate tool for microstructure characterization through porosity segmentation and quantification using microscopic images, manly due its fast, efficient and reliable manner

Transformation and dynamic visualization of images from computer through an FPGA in a matrix of LED

    Get PDF
This article shows the implementation of a system that uses a graphic interface to load a digital image into a programmable logic device, which is stored in its internal RAM memory and is responsible for visualizing it in a matrix of RGB LEDs, so that This way, the LEDs show an equivalent to the image that was sent from the PC, conserving an aspect ratio and respecting as much as possible the color of the original image. To carry out this task, a Matlab script was designed to load the image, convert and format the data, which are transmitted to the FPGA using the RS232 protocol. The FPGA is in charge of receiving them, storing them and generating all the signals of control and synchronization of the system including the control of the PWM signals necessary to conserve the brightness of each one of the LEDs. This system allows the visualization of static images in standard formats and, in addition, thanks to the flexibility of the hardware used, it allows the visualization of moving images type GIF

IP telephony based danger alert communication system and its implementation

The paper deals with development of a web application allowing to deliver pre-recorded voice messages by using SIP generator. The developed application is a part of complex system, which has been evolved in Dpt. of Telecommunications, Technical University of Ostrava for last three years. Our intent is focused on disaster management, the message, which should be delivered within specified time span, is typed in the application and text-to-speech module ensures its transormation to a speech format, after that a particular scenario or warned area is selected and a target group is automatically unloaded. For this purpose, we have defined XML format for delivery of phone numbers which are located in the target area and these numbers are obtained from mobile BTS's (Base transmission stations). The advantage of this aproach lies in controlled delivery and finally the list of unanswered calls is exported and these users are informed via SMS. In the paper, the core of the danger alert system is described including algorithms of the voice message delivery

This article discusses the use of the Voice Extensible Markup Language (VoiceXML, VXML) to create a complex voice menu in danger alert communication system. The system was created as a part of research at Department of Telecommunications at the VSB - Technical University of Ostrava. Creating a voice menu provides end-users more information about the impending danger as well as instructions on how to behave in a given situation. If users receive a pre-recorded warning message in the form of a phone call, it will provide a telephone number on which they can obtain more information. In order to achieve the desired functionality, we had to use open-source PBX Asterisk, the VoiceGlue package which features both the VoiceXML interpreter and the Text-to-Speech (TTS) moduleScopus14934433

An Efficient Approach To Object Recognition For Mobile Robots.

    Get PDF
In robotics, the object recognition approaches developed so far have proved very valuable, but their high memory and processing requirements make them suitable only for robots with high processing capability or for offline processing. When it comes to small size robots, these approaches are not effective and light- weight vision processing is adopted which causes a big drop in recognition performance. In this research, a computationally expensive, but efficient appearance-based object recognition approach is considered and tested on a small robotic platform which has limited memory and processing resources. Rather than processing the high resolution images, all the times, to perform recognition, a novel idea of switching between high and low resolutions, based on the “distance to object” is adopted. It is also shown that much of the computation time can be saved by identifying the irrelevant information in the images and avoid processing them with computationally expensive approaches. This helps to bridge the gap between the computationally expensive approaches and embedded platform with limited processing resources
