Extractive multi document summarization using harmony search algorithm
The exponential growth of information on the internet makes it troublesome for users to get valuable information. Text summarization is the process to overcome such a problem. An adequate summary must have wide coverage, high diversity, and high readability. In this article, a new method for multi-document summarization has been supposed based on a harmony search algorithm that optimizes the coverage, diversity, and readability. Concerning the benchmark dataset Text Analysis Conference (TAC-2011), the ROUGE package used to measure the effectiveness of the proposed model. The calculated results support the effectiveness of the proposed approach
Inferring Strategies for Sentence Ordering in Multidocument News Summarization
The problem of organizing information for multidocument summarization so that
the generated summary is coherent has received relatively little attention.
While sentence ordering for single document summarization can be determined
from the ordering of sentences in the input article, this is not the case for
multidocument summarization where summary sentences may be drawn from different
input articles. In this paper, we propose a methodology for studying the
properties of ordering information in the news genre and describe experiments
done on a corpus of multiple acceptable orderings we developed for the task.
Based on these experiments, we implemented a strategy for ordering information
that combines constraints from chronological order of events and topical
relatedness. Evaluation of our augmented algorithm shows a significant
improvement of the ordering over two baseline strategies
Text segmentation for analysing different languages
Over the past several years, researchers have applied different methods of text segmentation. Text segmentation is defined as a method of splitting a document into smaller segments, assuming with its own relevant meaning. Those segments can be classified into the tag, word, sentence, topic, phrase and any information unit. Firstly, this study reviews the different types of text segmentation methods used in different types of documentation, and later discusses the various reasons for utilizing it in opinion mining. The main contribution of this study includes a summarisation of research papers from the past 10 years that applied text segmentation as their main approach in text analysing. Results show that word segmentation was successfully and widely used for processing different languages
Automated generation of movie tributes
no vídeo final. Tal é feito através da extração de vetores de características áudio relacionadas com emoções das cenas às quais os clips pertencem e da música, e, de seguida, da sua comparação por meio do cálculo de uma medida de distância. Por fim, os clips
filtrados preenchem a música cronologicamente. Os resultados foram positivos: em média, os tributos produzidos obtiveram 7 pontos, numa escala de 0 a 10, em critérios como seleção de conteúdo e coerência emocional, fruto de avaliação humana. This thesis’ purpose is to generate a movie tribute in the form of a videoclip for a given movie and music. A tribute is considered to be a video containing meaningful clips from the movie playing along with a cohesive music piece. In this work, we collect the clips by summarizing the movie subtitles with a generic summarization algorithm. It is important that the artifact is coherent and fluid, hence there is the need to balance between the selection of important content and the selection of content that is in harmony with the music. To achieve so, clips are filtered so as to ensure that only those that
contain the same emotion as the music are chosen to appear in the final video. This is made by extracting vectors of emotion-related audio features from the scenes they belong to and from the music, and then comparing them with a distance measure. Finally, filtered clips fill the music length in a chronological order. Results were positive: on average, the produced tributes obtained scores of 7, on a scale from 0 to 10, on content selection, and emotional coherence criteria, from human evaluation
Text segmentation techniques: A critical review
Text segmentation is widely used for processing text. It is a method of splitting a document into smaller parts, which is usually called segments. Each segment has its relevant meaning. Those segments categorized as word, sentence, topic, phrase or any information unit depending on the task of the text analysis. This study presents various reasons of usage of text segmentation for different analyzing approaches. We categorized the types of documents and languages used. The main contribution of this study includes a summarization of 50 research papers and an illustration of past decade (January 2007- January 2017)’s of research that applied text segmentation as their main approach for analysing text. Results revealed the popularity of using text segmentation in different languages. Besides that, the “word” seems to be the most practical and usable segment, as it is the smaller unit than the phrase, sentence or line
Building Legal Case Retrieval Systems with Lexical Matching and Summarization using A Pre-Trained Phrase Scoring Model
We present our method for tackling the legal case retrieval task of the
Competition on Legal Information Extraction/Entailment 2019. Our approach is
based on the idea that summarization is important for retrieval. On one hand,
we adopt a summarization based model called encoded summarization which encodes
a given document into continuous vector space which embeds the summary
properties of the document. We utilize the resource of COLIEE 2018 on which we
train the document representation model. On the other hand, we extract lexical
features on different parts of a given query and its candidates. We observe
that by comparing different parts of the query and its candidates, we can
achieve better performance. Furthermore, the combination of the lexical
features with latent features by the summarization-based method achieves even
better performance. We have achieved the state-of-the-art result for the task
on the benchmark of the competition
User-Oriented Summaries Using a PSO Based Scoring Optimization Method
Automatic text summarization tools have a great impact on many fields, such as medicine, law, and scientific research in general. As information overload increases, automatic summaries allow handling the growing volume of documents, usually by assigning weights to the extracted phrases based on their significance in the expected summary. Obtaining the main contents of any given document in less time than it would take to do that manually is still an issue of interest.
In this article, a new method is presented that allows automatically generating extractive summaries from documents by adequately weighting sentence scoring features using Particle Swarm Optimization.
The key feature of the proposed method is the identification of those features that are closest to the criterion used by the individual when summarizing. The proposed method combines a binary representation and a continuous one, using an original variation of the technique developed by the authors of this paper. Our paper shows that using user labeled information in the training set helps to find better metrics and weights. The empirical results yield an improved accuracy compared to previous methods used in this field.Instituto de Investigación en Informátic
