Techniques to Audit and Certify the Long Term Integrity of Digital Archives
A large portion of the government, business, cultural, and scientific
digital data being created today needs to be archived and preserved
for future use of periods ranging from a few years to decades and
sometimes centuries. A fundamental requirement for a long term archive
is to set up mechanisms that will ensure the authenticity of the
holdings of the archive. In this paper, we develop a new methodology
to address the integrity of long term archives using rigorous
cryptographic techniques. Our approach involves the generation of a
small-size integrity token for each digital object to be archived, and
some cryptographic summary information based on all the objects
handled within a dynamic time period. We present a framework that
enables the continuous auditing of the holdings of the archive, as
well as auditing upon access, depending on the policy set by the
archive. Moreover, an independent auditor will be able to verify the
integrity of every version of an archived digital object as well as
link the current version to the original form of the object when it
was ingested into the archive. Using this approach, a prototype system
called ACE (Auditing Control Environment) has been built and tested.
ACE is scalable and cost effective, and is completely independent of
the archive's underlying architecture

En la presente investigaci贸n se estudian los principales elementos conceptuales de la preservaci贸n digital, as铆颅 como las vulnerabilidades y amenazas a las que se enfrentan los documentos en formato digital. Se describen las estrategias y los sistemas m谩s utilizados para garantizar la preservaci贸n a largo plazo de la informaci贸n digital. Se especifica el lenguaje, las herramientas y las tecnolog铆颅as utilizadas para la implementaci贸n de la propuesta de soluci贸n. Se realiza una descripci贸n del modelo OAIS con las funcionalidades necesarias para lograr la preservaci贸n a largo plazo. Se hace adem谩s una descripci贸n de la metodolog铆颅a utilizada ITIL con sus procesos y finalmente se hace una caracterizaci贸n del sistema de preservaci贸n digital a implantar, para ello se describen sus principales funcionalidades y se hace un an谩lisis de su arquitectura, identific谩ndose los elementos que deben personalizarse para su adaptaci贸n a las necesidades de la Biblioteca de la UCI. Con la implantaci贸n del sistema de preservaci贸n en la biblioteca, la informaci贸n almacenada en la misma quedar谩 salvaguardada durante largos per铆颅odos de tiempo ante cualquier amenaza que atente contra la integridad, accesibilidad y disponibilidad de la mism

Taking into account the possible future exhaustion of fossil energy sources, the actual and near danger of climate change, the drastic increase of the greenhouse gases in the last 200 years, as well as the growing need for sustainable development, consumption and liveable environment, the increasing necessity of renewable energy sources becomes clear. Utilization of these energy sources have to acquire a bigger role in the field of energy supply, in order to enhance the energy security of Hungary, to decline the energy import dependence, to reduce the negative environmental impacts, and to recover the economy. The world鈥檚 hunger for energy is growing exponentially; this is why it is crucial to establish feasibility scenarios in the next decades, which are able to meet these expectations, and to increase the safety of the energy supply
