Syntax-directed documentation for PL360
PL360 is a phrase-structured programming language which provides the facilities of a symbolic machine language for the IBM 360 computers. An automatic process, syntax-directed documentation, is described which acquires programming documentation through the syntactical analysis of a program, followed by the interrogation of the originating programmer. This documentation can be dispensed through reports of file query replies when other programmers later need to know the program structure and its details. A key principle of the programming documentation process is that it is managed solely on the basis of the syntax of programs

Um sistema conversacional de consulta para artigos de periódicos
SCAB (Periodical Article on-line Retrieval System) is a system designed for retrieval via remote terminal of bibliographical references to articles in periodicals. On-line operation is handled' by TSO (Time Sharing Option), which performs the interface with the Operating System. The retrievals of information is controlled through on-line dialogue between the user and the system using a SCAP conversational language which is easy to learn without prior knowledge of computational techniques. The creation and. maintenance of the Data Base is carried out in batch mode, independent of the on-line retrieval operation; the system is designed to maintain large collections of periodicals.O SCAP (Sistema Conversacional de Consulta para Artigos de Periódicos) é um sistema orientado para recuperação, via terminal, de referências bibliográficas de artigos de periódicos.
Feasibility study of an Integrated Program for Aerospace vehicle Design (IPAD). Volume 6: IPAD system development and operation
The strategy of the IPAD implementation plan presented, proposes a three phase development of the IPAD system and technical modules, and the transfer of this capability from the development environment to the aerospace vehicle design environment. The system and technical module capabilities for each phase of development are described. The system and technical module programming languages are recommended as well as the initial host computer system hardware and operating system. The cost of developing the IPAD technology is estimated. A schedule displaying the flowtime required for each development task is given. A PERT chart gives the developmental relationships of each of the tasks and an estimate of the operational cost of the IPAD system is offered
Interactive use of a computer in the preparation of structured progams
PhD ThesisAn experimental system providing assistance in the task of
program construction, validation and description is presented. This
system (Pearl) encourages a particular top-down approach to programming
such that programs so developed exhibit a multi-level, hierarchical
structure.
Amongst several tools provided by the system is one ·"hich
enables programs to be exercised even though they may be eXercised in terms of abstract operations and data types.
The whole system is designed to be used in an interactive
environment. Programs are developed by the programmer with appropriate
assistance and guidance from the computer.
Contemporary programming tools and methods are surveyed and
their relevance to the development of high quality software is discussed.
In particular attention is given to programming methodologies, design
representations and issues of program correctness.
The practicality of the system is demonstrated i!l a mmber of

Reference retrieval based on user induced dynamic clustering
PhD ThesisThe problem of mechanically retrieving references to
documents, as a first step to fulfilling the information
need of a researcher, is tackled through the design of an
interactive computer program. A view of reference retriev-
al is presented which embraces the browsing activity. In
fact, browsing is considered important and regarded as
ubiquitous. Thus, for successful retrieval (in many circum-
stances), a device which permits conversation is needed.
Approaches to automatic (delegated) retrieval are surveyed,
as are on-line systems which support interaction. This type
of interaction usually consists of iteration, under the
user's control, in the query formulation process.
A program has been constructed to tryout another
approach to man-machine dialogue in this field. The machine
builds a model of the user's interest, and chooses refer-
ences for display according to its current state. The model
is expressed in terms of the program's knowledge of the
network of references ans literature of the field, namely a
associated subject descriptors, authors and any other entity
of potential interest. The user need not formulate a query
- the model varies as a consequence of his reactions to
references shown to him. The model can be regarded as a
binary classification induced by the user's messages.
The program has been used experimentally with a small
collection of references and the structured vocabulary from
the kedlars system. A brief account of the program design
methodology is also given.Office for Scientific and Technical Information(OSTI
