Preschoolersâ free play : connections with emotional and social functioning
Play has an important role in various aspects of childrenâs development. However, time
for free play has declined substantially over the last decades. To date, few studies have
focused on the relationship between opportunities for free play and childrenâs social
functioning. The aims of this study are to examine whether childrenÂŽs free play is related
to their social functioning and whether this relationship is mediated by childrenÂŽs
emotional functioning. Seventy-eight children (age, 55- 77 months) were tested on their
theory of mind and emotion understanding. Parents reported on their childrenâs time for
free play, empathic abilities, social competence and externalizing behaviors. The main
findings showed that free play and childrenâs theory of mind are negatively related to
externalizing behaviors. Empathy was strongly related to childrenâs social competence,
but free play and social competence were not associated. Less time for free play is
related to more disruptive behaviors in preschool children, however certain emotional
functioning skills influence these behaviors independently of the time children have for
free play. These outcomes suggest that free play might help to prevent the development
of disruptive behaviors, but future studies should further examine the causality of this

CliqueStream: an efficient and fault-resilient live streaming network on a clustered peer-to-peer overlay
Several overlay-based live multimedia streaming platforms have been proposed
in the recent peer-to-peer streaming literature. In most of the cases, the
overlay neighbors are chosen randomly for robustness of the overlay. However,
this causes nodes that are distant in terms of proximity in the underlying
physical network to become neighbors, and thus data travels unnecessary
distances before reaching the destination. For efficiency of bulk data
transmission like multimedia streaming, the overlay neighborhood should
resemble the proximity in the underlying network. In this paper, we exploit the
proximity and redundancy properties of a recently proposed clique-based
clustered overlay network, named eQuus, to build efficient as well as robust
overlays for multimedia stream dissemination. To combine the efficiency of
content pushing over tree structured overlays and the robustness of data-driven
mesh overlays, higher capacity stable nodes are organized in tree structure to
carry the long haul traffic and less stable nodes with intermittent presence
are organized in localized meshes. The overlay construction and fault-recovery
procedures are explained in details. Simulation study demonstrates the good
locality properties of the platform. The outage time and control overhead
induced by the failure recovery mechanism are minimal as demonstrated by the

Effectiveness of landmark analysis for establishing locality in p2p networks
Locality to other nodes on a peer-to-peer overlay network can be established by means of a set of landmarks shared among the participating nodes. Each node independently collects a set of latency measures to landmark nodes, which are used as a multi-dimensional feature vector. Each peer node uses the feature vector to generate a unique scalar index which is correlated to its topological locality. A popular dimensionality reduction technique is the space filling Hilbertâs curve, as it possesses good locality
preserving properties. However, there exists little comparison between Hilbertâs curve and other techniques for dimensionality reduction. This work carries out a quantitative analysis of their properties. Linear and non-linear techniques for scaling the landmark vectors to a single dimension are investigated. Hilbertâs curve, Sammonâs mapping and Principal Component Analysis
have been used to generate a 1d space with locality preserving properties. This work provides empirical evidence to support the use of Hilbertâs curve in the context of locality preservation when generating peer identifiers by means of landmark vector analysis. A comparative analysis is carried out with an artificial 2d network model and with a realistic network topology model
with a typical power-law distribution of node connectivity in the Internet. Nearest neighbour analysis confirms Hilbertâs curve to be very effective in both artificial and realistic network topologies. Nevertheless, the results in the realistic network model show that there is scope for improvements and better techniques to preserve locality information are required
A new protocol for texture mapping process and 2d representation of rupestrian architecture
The development of the survey techniques for architecture and archaeology requires a general review in the methods used for the representation of numerical data. The possibilities offered by data processing allow to find new paths for studying issues connected to the drawing discipline. The research project aimed at experimenting different approaches for the representation of the rupestrian architecture and the texture mapping process. The nature of the rupestrian architecture does not allow a traditional representation of sections and projections of edges and outlines. The paper presents a method, the Equidistant Multiple Sections (EMS), inspired by cartography and based on the use of isohipses generated from different geometric plane. A specific paragraph is dedicated to the
texture mapping process for unstructured surface models. One of the main difficulty in the image projection consists in the recognition of homologous points between image and point cloud, above all in the areas with most deformations. With the aid of the âvirtual scanâ tool a different procedure was developed for improving the correspondences of the image. The result show a sensible improvement of the entire process above all for the architectural vaults. A detailed study concerned the unfolding of the straight line surfaces; the barrel vault of the analyzed chapel has been unfolded for observing the paintings in the real shapes out of the morphological context
Multirobot heterogeneous control considering secondary objectives
Cooperative robotics has considered tasks that are executed frequently, maintaining the
shape and orientation of robotic systems when they fulfill a common objective, without taking
advantage of the redundancy that the robotic group could present. This paper presents a proposal
for controlling a group of terrestrial robots with heterogeneous characteristics, considering primary
and secondary tasks thus that the group complies with the following of a path while modifying its
shape and orientation at any time. The development of the proposal is achieved through the use
of controllers based on linear algebra, propounding a low computational cost and high scalability
algorithm. Likewise, the stability of the controller is analyzed to know the required features that have
to be met by the control constants, that is, the correct values. Finally, experimental results are shown
with di erent configurations and heterogeneous robots, where the graphics corroborate the expected

Operationalizing the circular city model for naples' city-port: A hybrid development strategy
The city-port context involves a decisive reality for the economic development of territories and nations, capable of significantly influencing the conditions of well-being and quality of life, and of making the Circular City Model (CCM) operational, preserving and enhancing seas and marine resources in a sustainable way. This can be achieved through the construction of appropriate production and consumption models, with attention to relations with the urban and territorial system. This paper presents an adaptive decision-making process for Naples (Italy) commercial port's development strategies, aimed at re-establishing a sustainable city-port relationship and making Circular Economy (CE) principles operative. The approach has aimed at implementing a CCM by operationalizing European recommendations provided within both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework-specifically focusing on goals 9, 11 and 12-and the Maritime Spatial Planning European Directive 2014/89, to face conflicts about the overlapping areas of the city-port through multidimensional evaluations' principles and tools. In this perspective, a four-step methodological framework has been structured applying a place-based approach with mixed evaluation methods, eliciting soft and hard knowledge domains, which have been expressed and assessed by a core set of Sustainability Indicators (SI), linked to SDGs. The contribution outcomes have been centred on the assessment of three design alternatives for the East Naples port and the development of a hybrid regeneration scenario consistent with CE and sustainability principles. The structured decision-making process has allowed us to test how an adaptive approach can expand the knowledge base underpinning policy design and decisions to achieve better outcomes and cultivate a broad civic and technical engagement, that can enhance the legitimacy and transparency of policies
