They are constrained by hardware since they cannot be too heavy and rely on batteries. Their use still raises a large set of exciting new challenges in terms of trajectory optimization and positioning when they are used alone or in cooperation, and communication when they evolve in swarm, to name but a few examples.     Swarm-Based Drone-as-a-Service for Delivery

    There has been a growing interest in the applications of drones as a cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative in various domains. Particularly in the context of delivery services, the demand for contactless and efficient delivery solutions has surged. Drone delivery offers faster and greener deliveries. However, existing methods focus primarily on point-to-point delivery, limiting their potential for optimisation. This thesis proposes a novel approach to servitise drone delivery by operating through a skyway network composed of building rooftops, enabling drones to traverse between source and destination while recharging at intermediate nodes. Although single drone delivery offers numerous advantages, it faces significant challenges in scenarios where multiple packages require simultaneous delivery. Flight regulations, which often limit the carrying capacity of individual drones, necessitate the exploration of alternative solutions. Therefore, this thesis presents a novel Swarm-Based Drone-as-a-Service (SDaaS) model and framework for multiple package delivery. The proposed framework prioritises the composition of services that optimise Quality of Service (QoS) factors, such as delivery time and energy consumption. This thesis identifies swarm-specific constraints and leverages the unique characteristics of drone swarms. It explores swarm formations, in-flight wireless charging between drones, and allocation problems to maximise drone utilisation for consumer deliveries. Furthermore, this research investigates the recommendation of services to consumers based on their preferences, aiming to increase their satisfaction. Moreover, the framework addresses the resilience of SDaaS by addressing issues related to drone soft failures and their impact on other swarm members. Ultimately, this work paves the way for the widespread adoption and optimisation of swarm-based drone services in the context of last-mile delivery

    This report is written in part-fulfilment of personal output criteria for the Visiting Research Fellowship (Sir Richard Grenville Fellowship) at the Changing Character of War Centre, Pembroke College, Oxford, and the Centre for Sea Power and Strategy, Britannia Royal Naval College, Plymouth University at BRNC, Dartmouth. In this report I undertook an extensive analysis of the maritime UAV platform systems sector of a wide range of upstream manufacturing industry and downstream end user stakeholders. I consulted a global range of military and civilian users, to inform discussions around civilian UAV platforms which could be modified by hostile non-state actors, with emphasis on the littoral maritime region. This has strategic relevance to the United Kingdom, being an island-state with over 10,000 miles of coastline, c. 600 ports, and nearly 300 off-shore oil and gas platforms. In addition the UK has 14 dependencies together with a combined EEZ of 2.5 million square miles, the fifth largest in the world

    MBA Professional ReportThe purpose of this study is to outline and analyze the acquisition and sustainment process for the current U.S. Marine Corps RQ-11B Raven Digital Data Link small unmanned aerial system program. The current sustainment of the Marine Corps Raven evolved from the support employed for its predecessor analog variant in 2008, which was originally supported by Marine organic assets below depot-level maintenance requirements. The Ravens manufacturer, AeroVironment Inc., now stations a field service representative in theater and has been since around June 2011 under a contractor logistics support contract after the Marine Corps struggled to implement organic support and sustain its Ravens at the organizational and intermediate levels. This report serves as a case study for insights into the acquisition strategies for future unmanned systems. I explore the advantages and limitations of organic versus contractor support options in the form of monetary, organizational, and logistical resource allocation by analyzing the spectrum of solutions throughout the supply and maintenance constructs. In diesen Situationen können mobile Geräte mithilfe von drahtloser ad-hoc- und unterbrechungstoleranter Vernetzung miteinander verbunden werden, um ein Notfall-Kommunikationssystem für Zivilisten und Rettungsdienste einzurichten. Falls verfügbar, kann eine Verbindung zu Cloud-Diensten im Internet eine wertvolle Hilfe im Krisen- und Katastrophenmanagement sein. Solche Kommunikationssysteme bergen jedoch ernsthafte Sicherheitsrisiken, da Angreifer versuchen könnten, vertrauliche Daten zu stehlen, gefälschte Benachrichtigungen von Notfalldiensten einzuspeisen oder Denial-of-Service (DoS) Angriffe durchzuführen.
