Can the BBC survive the digital age?
The BBC is a public service broadcaster that is highly regarded by the British television audience. However, it is subject to increasing threats to its continuing viability from digital private sector television providers. A part of the threat to the BBC is the way in which it is funded through the TV licence. This article examines the threats to the survival of the BBC through a review of relevant literature and with reference to a survey conducted by the author. The research confirms the high regard in which the BBC is held by the British public and argues for its continuing existence

(Re)Animating the Horror Genre: Explorations in Children\u27s Animated Horror Films
This project seeks to define the subgenre of children\u27s animated horror film by examining its classification within the children\u27s film genre and its use of generic conventions of horror. While this project does not aim to conflate children\u27s film as a genre and animation as a medium, the scope of this project will be limited to children\u27s animated horror films from 1993 - present day. In order to explore the subgenre of children\u27s animated horror films from 1993-present, I will focus specifically on the following films: Tim Burton\u27s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit (2005), Tim Burton\u27s Corpse Bride (2006), Monster House (2006), Igor (2008), Coraline (2009), 9 (2009), Frankenweenie (2012), Hotel Transylvania (2012), and ParaNorman (2012). These films not only raise questions about children and childhood, but also specifically engage in the generic conventions of horror through various monsters, use of comedy, gender stereotypes, and generic hybridity. By engaging in conversations with the conventions of horror films, children\u27s animated horror film legitimates its status as a horror subgenre, not merely simple children\u27s films
Opening Our Eyes : How film contributes to the culture of the UK
Opening our eyes looks at how films are consumed and the factors which affect people’s viewing choices. It also covers the relationships audiences report between film and other activities. It goes on to explore the sorts of effects which film has upon people, their sense of identity and relationship with the world. Finally it looks at the various effects which individual films have had on those surveyed and reaches a number of conclusions.Final Published versio
Transfer of Verbal Humour in Audiovisual Translation - Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in Finnish
Käännöksiä kulutetaan nykyään paljon audiovisuaalisessa muodossa. Av-kääntäminen on lisäksi läpinäkyvä kääntämisen laji: tekstityksessä alkuperäinen dialogi säilyy käännöksen rinnalla, mikä tarjoaa lähdekieltä osaaville katsojille mahdollisuuden poimia ”virheitä”, kun taas dubbauksessa kuva ja etenkin puhutusta käännöksestä eroavat suunliikkeet saattavat muistuttaa katsojaa vieraasta alkuperästä. Av-kääntämisessä on otettava huomioon useita kommunikaatiokanavia. Dialogilla on usein kiinteitä yhteyksiä etenkin kuvaan.
Tutkimuskohteeksi valittiin Wallace & Gromit -elokuvasarjan The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, suom. Kanin kirous, jossa on paljon haastavaa verbaalia huumoria.

Multiple Key-value Strategy in Recommendation Systems Incorporating Large Language Model
Recommendation system (RS) plays significant roles in matching users
information needs for Internet applications, and it usually utilizes the
vanilla neural network as the backbone to handle embedding details. Recently,
the large language model (LLM) has exhibited emergent abilities and achieved
great breakthroughs both in the CV and NLP communities. Thus, it is logical to
incorporate RS with LLM better, which has become an emerging research
direction. Although some existing works have made their contributions to this
issue, they mainly consider the single key situation (e.g. historical
interactions), especially in sequential recommendation. The situation of
multiple key-value data is simply neglected. This significant scenario is
mainstream in real practical applications, where the information of users (e.g.
age, occupation, etc) and items (e.g. title, category, etc) has more than one
key. Therefore, we aim to implement sequential recommendations based on
multiple key-value data by incorporating RS with LLM. In particular, we
instruct tuning a prevalent open-source LLM (Llama 7B) in order to inject
domain knowledge of RS into the pre-trained LLM. Since we adopt multiple
key-value strategies, LLM is hard to learn well among these keys. Thus the
general and innovative shuffle and mask strategies, as an innovative manner of
data argument, are designed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach,
extensive experiments are conducted on the popular and suitable dataset
MovieLens which contains multiple keys-value. The experimental results
demonstrate that our approach can nicely and effectively complete this
challenging issue.Comment: Accepted by CIKM2023 workshop at GenRec'2
