A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems

    Get PDF
This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers. Finally, safety of convex systems is discussed by describing popular techniques for fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control (FTC).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Finite-time reliable nonfragile control for fractionalorder nonlinear systems with asymmetrical saturation and structured uncertainties

This paper investigates the finite-time stabilization problem of fractional-order nonlinear differential systems via an asymmetrically saturated reliable control in the sense of Caputo’s fractional derivative. In particular, an asymmetrical saturation control problem is converted to a symmetrical saturation control problem by using a linear matrix inequality framework criterion to achieve the essential results. Specifically, in this paper, we obtain two sets of sufficient conditions under different scenarios of structured uncertainty, namely, norm-bounded parametric uncertainty and linear fractional transformation uncertainty. The uncertainty considered in this paper is a combination of polytopic form and structured form. With the help of control theories of fractional-order system and linear matrix inequality technique, some sufficient criteria to ensure reliable finite-time stability of fractional-order differential systems by using the indirect Lyapunov approach are derived. As a final point, the derived criteria are numerically validated by means of examples based on financial fractional-order differential system and permanent magnet synchronous motor chaotic fractional-order differential system

Parameter-Dependent Lyapunov Functions for Linear Systems With Constant Uncertainties

    Get PDF
Robust stability of linear time-invariant systems with respect to structured uncertainties is considered. The small gain condition is sufficient to prove robust stability and scalings are typically used to reduce the conservatism of this condition. It is known that if the small gain condition is satisfied with constant scalings then there is a single quadratic Lyapunov function which proves robust stability with respect to all allowable time-varying perturbations. In this technical note we show that if the small gain condition is satisfied with frequency-varying scalings then an explicit parameter dependent Lyapunov function can be constructed to prove robust stability with respect to constant uncertainties. This Lyapunov function has a rational quadratic dependence on the uncertainties

Robust stability of thermal control systems with uncertain parameters: The graphical analysis examples

    Get PDF
This paper is intended to present the investigation of robust stability for integer order or fractional order feedback control loops affected by parametric uncertainty and time-delay(s) with special emphasis on the thermal control systems. The applied graphical method is based on the numerical calculations of the value sets and the zero exclusion condition. Three robust stability examples inspired by control of the real-world thermal processes are used for demonstration of the technique applicability. Namely, the work deals with the analysis of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger which was identified as the (integer order) time-delay model with parametric uncertainty, a heat transfer process modeled as the fractional order time-delay plant with parametric uncertainty, and a heating–cooling system with a heat exchanger described by the anisochronic model with internal delays and parametric uncertainty. © 2017 Elsevier LtdEuropean Regional Development Fund under the project CEBIA-Tech Instrumentation [CZ.1.05/2.1.00/19.0376]; Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic within the National Sustainability Programme [LO1303 (MSMT-7778/2014)

Robust stability of fractional order polynomials with complicated uncertainty structure

    Get PDF
The main aim of this article is to present a graphical approach to robust stability analysis for families of fractional order (quasi-)polynomials with complicated uncertainty structure. More specifically, the work emphasizes the multilinear, polynomial and general structures of uncertainty and, moreover, the retarded quasi-polynomials with parametric uncertainty are studied. Since the families with these complex uncertainty structures suffer from the lack of analytical tools, their robust stability is investigated by numerical calculation and depiction of the value sets and subsequent application of the zero exclusion condition. © 2017 Matusu et al.
