Super-Resolution Quantum Imaging at the Heisenberg Limit
Quantum imaging exploits the spatial correlations between photons to image
object features with a higher resolution than a corresponding classical light
source could achieve. Using a quantum correlated -photon state, the method
of optical centroid measurement (OCM) was shown to exhibit a resolution
enhancement by improving the classical Rayleigh limit by a factor of . In
this work, the theory of OCM is formulated within the framework of an imaging
formalism and is implemented in an exemplary experiment by means of a
conventional entangled photon pair source. The expected resolution enhancement
of a factor of two is demonstrated. The here presented experiment allows for
single-shot operation without scanning or iteration to reproduce the object in
the image plane. Thereby, photon detection is performed with a newly developed
integrated time-resolving detector array. Multi-photon interference effects
responsible for the observed resolution enhancement are discussed and possible
alternative implementation possibilities for higher photon number are proposed
Video Resolution Enhancement using DWT, SWT and CLAHE
One of an image details which has been always an vital concern in various image and video-processing applications, such as video resolution enhancement, feature extraction, and satellite image resolution enhancement is resolution. In recent advances Video Resolution enhancement has been envisioned to help in numerous applications and has turned out to be a hot research area. This opens up several technical challenges and immense application possibilities. The paper describes the three main categories - Contrast limited adaptive histogram equalisation (CLAHE), Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), Stationary Wavelet Transform(SWT). DWT uses filter for building the multi-resolution. SWT is an extension of the Standard Discrete Wavelet Transform to enhance the general details of an image. This study presents a novel resolution enhancement methods with future research are
Image resolution enhancement using dual-tree complex wavelet transform
In this letter, a complex wavelet-domain image resolution enhancement algorithm based on the estimation of wavelet coefficients is proposed. The method uses a forward and inverse dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) to construct a high-resolution (HR) image from the given low-resolution (LR) image. The HR image is reconstructed from the LR image, together with a set of wavelet coefficients, using the inverse DT-CWT. The set of wavelet coefficients is estimated from the DT-CWT decomposition of the rough estimation of the HR image. Results are presented and discussed on very HR QuickBird data, through comparisons between state-of-the-art resolution enhancement methods
Sub-wavelength imaging: Resolution enhancement using metal wire gratings
An experimental evidence of subwavelength imaging with a "lens", which is a
uniaxial negative permittivity wire medium slab, is reported. The slab is
formed by gratings of long thin parallel conducting cylinders. Taking into
account the anisotropy and spatial dispersion in the wire medium we
theoretically show that there are no usual plasmons that could be exited on
surfaces of such a slab, and there is no resonant enhancement of evanescent
fields in the slab. The experimentally observed clear improvement of the
resolution in the presence of the slab is explained as filtering out the
harmonics with small wavenumbers. In other words, the wire gratings (the wire
medium) suppress strong traveling-mode components increasing the role of
evanescent waves in the image formation. This effect can be used in near-field
imaging and detection applications.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
An optimal factor analysis approach to improve the wavelet-based image resolution enhancement techniques
The existing wavelet-based image resolution enhancement techniques have many assumptions, such as limitation of the way to generate low-resolution images and the selection of wavelet functions, which limits their applications in different fields. This paper initially identifies the factors that effectively affect the performance of these techniques and quantitatively evaluates the impact of the existing assumptions. An approach called Optimal Factor Analysis employing the genetic algorithm is then introduced to increase the applicability and fidelity of the existing methods. Moreover, a new Figure of Merit is proposed to assist the selection of parameters and better measure the overall performance. The experimental results show that the proposed approach improves the performance of the selected image resolution enhancement methods and has potential to be extended to other methods
Real Time Turbulent Video Perfecting by Image Stabilization and Super-Resolution
Image and video quality in Long Range Observation Systems (LOROS) suffer from
atmospheric turbulence that causes small neighbourhoods in image frames to
chaotically move in different directions and substantially hampers visual
analysis of such image and video sequences. The paper presents a real-time
algorithm for perfecting turbulence degraded videos by means of stabilization
and resolution enhancement. The latter is achieved by exploiting the turbulent
motion. The algorithm involves generation of a reference frame and estimation,
for each incoming video frame, of a local image displacement map with respect
to the reference frame; segmentation of the displacement map into two classes:
stationary and moving objects and resolution enhancement of stationary objects,
while preserving real motion. Experiments with synthetic and real-life
sequences have shown that the enhanced videos, generated in real time, exhibit
substantially better resolution and complete stabilization for stationary
objects while retaining real motion.Comment: Submitted to The Seventh IASTED International Conference on
