Reputation-based network selection solution for improved video delivery quality in heterogeneous wireless network environments
The continuous innovations and advances in both high-end mobile devices and wireless communication technologies have increased the users demand and expectations for anywhere, anytime, any device high quality multimedia applications provisioning. Moreover, the heterogeneity of the wireless network environment offers the possibility to the mobile user to select between several available radio access network technologies. However, selecting the network that enables the best user perceived video quality is not trivial given that in general the network characteristics vary widely not only in time but also depending on the user location within each network. In this context, this paper proposes a user location-aware reputation-based network selection solution which aims at improving the video delivery in a heterogeneous wireless network environment by selecting the best value network. Network performance is regularly monitored and evaluated by the currently connected users in different areas of each individual network. Based on the existing network performance-related information and mobile user location and speed, the network that offers the best support for video delivery along the userââŹâ˘s path is selected as the target network and the handover is triggered. The simulation results show that the proposed solution improves the video delivery quality in comparison with the case when a classic network selection mechanism was employed

Multimedia delivery in the future internet
The term âNetworked Mediaâ implies that all kinds of media including text, image, 3D graphics, audio
and video are produced, distributed, shared, managed and consumed on-line through various networks,
like the Internet, Fiber, WiFi, WiMAX, GPRS, 3G and so on, in a convergent manner [1]. This white
paper is the contribution of the Media Delivery Platform (MDP) cluster and aims to cover the Networked
challenges of the Networked Media in the transition to the Future of the Internet.
Internet has evolved and changed the way we work and live. End users of the Internet have been confronted
with a bewildering range of media, services and applications and of technological innovations concerning
media formats, wireless networks, terminal types and capabilities. And there is little evidence that the pace
of this innovation is slowing. Today, over one billion of users access the Internet on regular basis, more
than 100 million users have downloaded at least one (multi)media file and over 47 millions of them do so
regularly, searching in more than 160 Exabytes1 of content. In the near future these numbers are expected
to exponentially rise. It is expected that the Internet content will be increased by at least a factor of 6, rising
to more than 990 Exabytes before 2012, fuelled mainly by the users themselves. Moreover, it is envisaged
that in a near- to mid-term future, the Internet will provide the means to share and distribute (new)
multimedia content and services with superior quality and striking flexibility, in a trusted and personalized
way, improving citizensâ quality of life, working conditions, edutainment and safety.
In this evolving environment, new transport protocols, new multimedia encoding schemes, cross-layer inthe
network adaptation, machine-to-machine communication (including RFIDs), rich 3D content as well as
community networks and the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays are expected to generate new models of
interaction and cooperation, and be able to support enhanced perceived quality-of-experience (PQoE) and
innovative applications âon the moveâ, like virtual collaboration environments, personalised services/
media, virtual sport groups, on-line gaming, edutainment. In this context, the interaction with content
combined with interactive/multimedia search capabilities across distributed repositories, opportunistic P2P
networks and the dynamic adaptation to the characteristics of diverse mobile terminals are expected to
contribute towards such a vision.
Based on work that has taken place in a number of EC co-funded projects, in Framework Program 6 (FP6)
and Framework Program 7 (FP7), a group of experts and technology visionaries have voluntarily
contributed in this white paper aiming to describe the status, the state-of-the art, the challenges and the way

Models and Methods for Network Selection and Balancing in Heterogeneous Scenarios
The outbreak of 5G technologies for wireless communications can be considered a response to the need for widespread coverage, in terms of connectivity and bandwidth, to guarantee broadband services, such as streaming or on-demand programs offered by the main television networks or new generation services based on augmented and virtual reality (AR / VR).
The purpose of the study conducted for this thesis aims to solve two of the main problems that will occur with the outbreak of 5G, that is, the search for the best possible connectivity, in order to offer users the resources necessary to take advantage of the new generation services, and multicast as required by the eMBMS.
The aim of the thesis is the search for innovative algorithms that will allow to obtain the best connectivity to offer users the resources necessary to use the 5G services in a heterogeneous scenario. Study UF that allows you to improve the search for the best candidate network and to achieve a balance that allows you to avoid congestion of the chosen networks. To achieve these two important focuses, I conducted a study on the main mathematical methods that made it possible to select the network based on QoS parameters based on the type of traffic made by users. A further goal was to improve the computational computation performance they present.
Furthermore, I carried out a study in order to obtain an innovative algorithm that would allow the management of multicast. The algorithm that has been implemented responds to the needs present in the eMBMS, in realistic scenarios
Network reputation-based quality optimization of video delivery in heterogeneous wireless environments
The mass-market adoption of high-end mobile devices and increasing amount of video traffic has led the mobile operators to adopt various solutions to help them cope with the explosion of mobile broadband data traffic, while ensuring high Quality of Service (QoS) levels to their services. Deploying small-cell base stations within the existing macro-cellular networks and offloading traffic from the large macro-cells to the small cells is seen as a promising solution to increase capacity and improve network performance at low cost. Parallel use of diverse technologies is also employed. The result is a heterogeneous network environment (HetNets), part of the next generation network deployments.
In this context, this thesis makes a step forward towards the âAlways Best Experienceâ paradigm, which considers mobile users seamlessly roaming in the HetNets environment. Supporting ubiquitous connectivity and enabling very good quality of rich mobile services anywhere and anytime is highly challenging, mostly due to the heterogeneity of the selection criteria, such as: application requirements (e.g., voice, video, data, etc.); different device types and with various capabilities (e.g., smartphones, netbooks, laptops, etc.); multiple overlapping networks using diverse technologies (e.g., Wireless Local Area Networks (IEEE 802.11), Cellular Networks Long Term Evolution (LTE), etc.) and different user preferences. In fact, the mobile users are facing a complex decision when they need to dynamically select the best value network to connect to in order to get the âAlways Best Experienceâ.
This thesis presents three major contributions to solve the problem described above: 1) The Location-based Network Prediction mechanism in heterogeneous wireless networks (LNP) provides a shortlist of best available networks to the mobile user based on his location, history record and routing plan; 2) Reputation-oriented Access Network Selection mechanism (RANS) selects the best reputation network from the available networks for the mobile user based on the best trade-off between QoS, energy consumptions and monetary cost. The network reputation is defined based on previous user-network interaction, and consequent user experience with the network. 3) Network Reputation-based Quality Optimization of Video Delivery in heterogeneous networks (NRQOVD) makes use of a reputation mechanism to enhance the video content quality via multipath delivery or delivery adaptation
Network selection based on chi-square distance and reputation for internet of things
The internet of things (IoT) has become one of the most important technologies of the 21st century. The IoT environment is composed of heterogeneous IoT communication networks. These technologies are complementary and need to be integrated to meet the requirements of different types of IoT applications that require the mobility of the IoT device under different IoT communication networks. In this paper, the vertical handover decision method is considered to select the appropriate network among different IoT technologies. So, IoT devices, equipped with several radio technologies, can select the most suitable network based on several criteria like quality of service (QoS), cost, power, and security. In this work, a multi-attribute decision-making algorithm (MADM) based on techniques for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) that uses chi-square distance instead of Euclidean distance is proposed. The network reputation is added to reduce the average number of handoffs. The proposed algorithm was implemented to select the best technology depending on the requirements of the different IoT traffic classes. The obtained results showed that our proposition outperforms the traditional MADM algorithms
Unleashing the Power of Edge-Cloud Generative AI in Mobile Networks: A Survey of AIGC Services
Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) is an automated method for
generating, manipulating, and modifying valuable and diverse data using AI
algorithms creatively. This survey paper focuses on the deployment of AIGC
applications, e.g., ChatGPT and Dall-E, at mobile edge networks, namely mobile
AIGC networks, that provide personalized and customized AIGC services in real
time while maintaining user privacy. We begin by introducing the background and
fundamentals of generative models and the lifecycle of AIGC services at mobile
AIGC networks, which includes data collection, training, finetuning, inference,
and product management. We then discuss the collaborative cloud-edge-mobile
infrastructure and technologies required to support AIGC services and enable
users to access AIGC at mobile edge networks. Furthermore, we explore
AIGCdriven creative applications and use cases for mobile AIGC networks.
Additionally, we discuss the implementation, security, and privacy challenges
of deploying mobile AIGC networks. Finally, we highlight some future research
directions and open issues for the full realization of mobile AIGC networks
SCALABLE AND EFFICIENT VERTICAL HANDOVER DECISION ALGORITHMS IN VEHICULAR NETWORK CONTEXTS
A finales de los aĂąos noventa, y al comienzo del nuevo milenio, las redes inalĂĄmbricas han evolucionado bastante, pasando de ser sĂłlo una tecnologĂa prometedora para convertirse en un requisito para las actividades cotidianas en las sociedades desarrolladas. La infraestructura de transporte tambiĂŠn ha evolucionado, ofreciendo comunicaciĂłn a bordo para mejorar la seguridad vial y el acceso a contenidos de informaciĂłn y entretenimiento.
Los requisitos de los usuarios finales se han hecho dependientes de la tecnologĂa, lo que significa que sus necesidades de conectividad han aumentado debido a los diversos requisitos de las aplicaciones que se ejecutan en sus dispositivos mĂłviles, tales como tabletas, telĂŠfonos inteligentes, ordenadores portĂĄtiles o incluso ordenadores de abordo (On-Board Units (OBUs)) dentro de los vehĂculos. Para cumplir con dichos requisitos de conectividad, y teniendo en cuenta las diferentes redes inalĂĄmbricas disponibles, es necesario adoptar tĂŠcnicas de Vertical Handover (VHO) para cambiar de red de forma transparente y sin necesidad de intervenciĂłn del usuario.
El objetivo de esta tesis es desarrollar algoritmos de decisiĂłn (Vertical Handover Decision Algorithms (VHDAs)) eficientes y escalables, optimizados para el contexto de las redes vehiculares. En ese sentido se ha propuesto, desarrollado y probado diferentes algoritmos de decisiĂłn basados en la infraestructura disponible en las actuales, y probablemente en las futuras, redes inalĂĄmbricas y redes vehiculares. Para ello se han combinado diferentes tĂŠcnicas, mĂŠtodos computacionales y modelos matemĂĄticos, con el fin de garantizar una conectividad apropiada, y realizando el handover hacia las redes mĂĄs adecuadas de manera a cumplir tanto con los requisitos de los usuarios como los requisitos de las aplicaciones.
