Acceleration of Coarse Grain Molecular Dynamics on GPU Architectures
Coarse grain (CG) molecular models have been proposed to simulate complex sys- tems with lower computational overheads and longer timescales with respect to atom- istic level models. However, their acceleration on parallel architectures such as Graphic Processing Units (GPU) presents original challenges that must be carefully evaluated. The objective of this work is to characterize the impact of CG model features on parallel simulation performance. To achieve this, we implemented a GPU-accelerated version of a CG molecular dynamics simulator, to which we applied specic optimizations for CG models, such as dedicated data structures to handle dierent bead type interac- tions, obtaining a maximum speed-up of 14 on the NVIDIA GTX480 GPU with Fermi architecture. We provide a complete characterization and evaluation of algorithmic and simulated system features of CG models impacting the achievable speed-up and accuracy of results, using three dierent GPU architectures as case studie

Fault Tree Analysis: a survey of the state-of-the-art in modeling, analysis and tools
Fault tree analysis (FTA) is a very prominent method to analyze the risks related to safety and economically critical assets, like power plants, airplanes, data centers and web shops. FTA methods comprise of a wide variety of modelling and analysis techniques, supported by a wide range of software tools. This paper surveys over 150 papers on fault tree analysis, providing an in-depth overview of the state-of-the-art in FTA. Concretely, we review standard fault trees, as well as extensions such as dynamic FT, repairable FT, and extended FT. For these models, we review both qualitative analysis methods, like cut sets and common cause failures, and quantitative techniques, including a wide variety of stochastic methods to compute failure probabilities. Numerous examples illustrate the various approaches, and tables present a quick overview of results
Predicting the Quality of Short Narratives from Social Media
An important and difficult challenge in building computational models for
narratives is the automatic evaluation of narrative quality. Quality evaluation
connects narrative understanding and generation as generation systems need to
evaluate their own products. To circumvent difficulties in acquiring
annotations, we employ upvotes in social media as an approximate measure for
story quality. We collected 54,484 answers from a crowd-powered
question-and-answer website, Quora, and then used active learning to build a
classifier that labeled 28,320 answers as stories. To predict the number of
upvotes without the use of social network features, we create neural networks
that model textual regions and the interdependence among regions, which serve
as strong benchmarks for future research. To our best knowledge, this is the
