The Semantics of Purity in the Ancient Near East: Lexical Meaning as a Projection of Embodied Experience

This article analyzes the primary terms for purity in Biblical Hebrew, Ugaritic, Sumerian, Akkadian and Hittite. Building on insights from cognitive linguistics and embodiment theory, this study develops the premise that semantic structure – even of seemingly abstract concepts– is grounded in real-world bodily experience. An examination of purity terms reveals that all of them can be related to a concrete sense pertaining to radiance (brilliance, brightness, shininess). The article traces the semantic development of purity terms in distinct experiential contexts and shows how semantic analysis can elucidate the inner logic of fundamental religious concepts

Im Zeichen der 'Reinheit'. Zur Produktivität eines Konzepts in der deutschsprachigen Literatur um 1800

Das Denkmotiv der Reinheit hat in literarischen und außerliterarischen Texten des ausgehenden 18. Jahrhunderts Konjunktur. Diese Polypräsenz von Reinheit kann, folgt man der Sozialanthropologin Mary Douglas und neueren, an ihre Forschungen anschließenden Studien, im Zusammenhang mit zeitgenössischen Umbruchprozessen gesehen werden, wie sie sich im deutschsprachigen Raum um 1800 in politischer, sozialgeschichtlicher, epistemischer und kultureller Hinsicht ereignen. Die Arbeit erforscht Konfigurationen von Reinheit in der Literatur um 1800 in textnahen Analysen. Darüber hinaus werden die in den literarischen Fallstudien gewonnenen Ergebnisse innerhalb des zeitgenössischen Reinheitsdiskurses verortet, wie er sich in den unterschiedlichsten, um 1800 erschienenen kulturhistorischen Texten zeigt. Untersucht wird konkret, inwiefern literarische Texte sich auf je spezifische Art und Weise des Denkmotivs der Reinheit bedienen, sich dessen Implikationen (Homogenität, Authentizität, Alterität und Abgeschlossenheit) innerhalb des Textspiels zunutze machen, das (gefährliche) Potential der Reinheitsmetapher auf spezifisch literarische Weise reflektieren, Denken und Schreiben im Zeichen der Reinheit subversiv aufbrechen oder gar explizit dekonstruieren

Untersuchungen zur trägerarmen Radiofluorierung nicht-aktivierter Aromaten mit n.c.a. [18F]Fluorid

In vivo imaging with positron emission tomography generally demands radiotracers with a high specific activity. In case of fluorine-18 the required no-carrier-added (n.c.a.) starting material is only available in form of fluoride. This and the short half-life of 109.7 minutes of the radionuclide lead to the demand of special methods for radiosyntheses. The only practical procedure for manufacturing n.c.a. [$^{18}$F]fluoro-compounds is therefore nucleophilic substitution. There is, however, still a lack of effective procedures for the labelling of electron rich aromatic molecules starting from n.c.a. [$^{18}$F]fluoride. A process for n.c.a. radiofluorination of these compounds is offered by the reaction of iodonium compounds as starting materials. In this study modern procedures for the synthesis of iodoniumsalts and -ylides were investigated. Several precursor molecules for the versatile synthetic building block 4-[$^{18}$F]fluoroiodobenzene were synthesised. In this course, a new one- pot procedure for the synthesis of iodoniumylides was developed. Further on, the syntheses of suitable iodonium precursors for two fluorophenoxy-derivatives, which are possible antidepressants, were investigated. Due to their binding profile these compounds can be considered as ligands for the serotonin reuptake transporter (SERT) and the norepinephrin reuptake transporter (NET), respectively. The preparation of appropriate iodonium salts proved to be too problematic, while the synthesis of suitable iodoniumylides could be accomplished with satisfactory yields of about 30 % and 40 %, respectively. Both compounds were labelled with n.c.a. [$^{18}$F]fluoride and deprotected to the desired targetcompounds 4-((3-[$^{18}$F]fluorophenoxy)(phenyl)methyl)piperidine and 4-((4-[$^{18}$F]fluorophenoxy)(phenyl)methyl)piperidine in radiochemical yields of about 40 % and 25 %, respectively. Those are now available for preclinical evaluation studies. Furthermore, a process for the palladium catalysed synthesis of $^{18}$F-labelled aromatic molecules was investigated. Initially a suitable reaction protocol was developed for further examination of the dependence of the radiochemical yield on the amount of added carrier. It turned out, however, that the reaction did not proceed without the addition of fluoride-carrier. For the identification of the radioactive products and the determination of the radiochemical yields suitable Chromatographic conditions for the identification of all radioactive products and the determination of their radiochemical yields via HPLC were developed. Stereospecific Synthesis of 2,3-Dimethoxynaphtho[1,2-b] indolizidine

(11aS)- and (11aR)-2,3-dimethoxy-naphtho[1,2-b]indolizidine (9a and 9b) were synthesized from optically pure L- and D-glutamic acid through several steps (scheme 1). All the intermediates of the route to the optical antipodes of 9 exhibit identical physical and spectral properties except the sign of the optical rotation values. The optical purity of the enantiomers of 6 was checked by 1H-NMR spectra using Eu(tfc)3, that of the enantiomers of 9 by HPLC-separation on a chiral column; the amount of racemization was less than 3% in 9a and 9b, respectively.
